Book Report of White Fang

White fang, written by Jack London, is about a wolf cub making its way in the world and the book describes how this cub learns things and sees things.

This cub is called white fang, because at first the cub’s teeth is white. The cub’s growing path is like a child grows up, the path is full of pains and sorrows, little of happiness. He is a gray wolf born by Kiche and One Eye. He has a lot of challenges after his mother is taken from him when he was just a puppy. He has to deal with people that never show him affections, to cruel people who hurt him. Finally, he finds someone who loves him indeed and treats him good and takes care of him, but he really suffered a lot before he gets that life. After introducing the story of this book, then I will briefly tell about his curiousness to the unknown and some reflection of this.

The call of the wild is a famous novel written by Jack London, an American author who lived from 1876 to 1916.He also wrote《White Fang》and《The Sea Wolf》.This story is about Buck, a heroic, worthy, Ghost Dog. Buck, the main character, is the son of a Saint Bernard and a Scotch Shepherd dog, because of this, he has the appearance of an extraordinary large dog that looks similar to a wolf.

At the very beginning, Buck had a very comfortable life in California with his master Judge Miller. He had everything, enough food, tasty water, kind friends. But Buck can’t read newspaper, he didn’t know that trouble was coming for every big dog in California. Men had found gold in the Yukon, and these men wanted big, strong dogs to work in the cold and snow of north. Then his cruel life began with a terrible abduction.

——舍伍德·安德森《鸡蛋的胜利》解析 《鸡蛋的胜利》是美国著名的小说家舍伍德·安德森传世佳作之一。舍伍德·安德森生于美国俄亥俄州卡姆丹镇，后移居到克莱德镇，而且他的很多小说就以克莱德镇为背景进行创作，《鸡蛋的胜利》就是其中一篇。舍伍德·安德森能洞悉人们是如何追求美国梦的，也明了他们梦想是如何破碎的。在这篇小说的主人翁是“父亲”，一个本性天生乐观、热情，后来变得习惯性地沉默与失意的男人。安德森通过对“父亲”由原来胸无大志到后来雄心壮志再到最后梦想破碎的简单的描写，点明了本文的主题：美国梦的破灭；而文中的“鸡蛋”则可以说是美国梦的化身。那么，美国梦到底指什么呢？是什么刺激了“父亲”美国梦的产生？有时什么使得他的美梦破产了呢？本文将针对这些问题对《鸡蛋的胜利》进行解析。
