He has the face of a dead man, no nose, just two black holes in his yellow face. His eyes are black holes sometimes and have a terrible red light. He also sends a letter to the two new directors of the Opera House to ask them never sell tickets for Box 5 and pay him 20, 000 francs a month. But the directors don’t follow the words of the ghost. So Erik sends a second letter to blame the directors and ask them to let Christine sing Faust again instead of La Carlotta. At that night, he makes the chandelier goes down and La Carlotta can’t sing anymore. He is so dangerous that most people afraid him and regard him as a ghost.

《普通高中英语课程标准》(实验)语言技能目标中的六级目标要求学生课外阅读量应累计达到18万词以上,七级目标为23万词以上,八级目标为30万词以上。如此大的课外阅读量,没有一定的阅读能力学生很难完成的。

一、高中生英语阅读的主要问题

大多数学生具有比较强烈的阅读动机,自我效能感较高,能排除学习中的干扰因素,能尝试使用一些阅读策略,如浏览、寻读、猜测等。但现代的教学现状也存在着心情浮躁,方法不对,效果不好的问题。心情浮躁,整个社会好像如此,希望一夜之间成富翁,希望今天学了,明天就见效。方法不对,很大一部分人认为阅读能力是做练习做出来的,基本模式是:读豆腐干一样的短文,做超大量的练习,不能针对自己的阅读能力确定适当的阅读目标,不会制订阅读计划,对阅读策略比较陌生,结果做的练习册一本又一本,试题集一套一套,做得头昏眼花,兴趣全无,效果不好,英语水平没有实质性的提高,表达运用能力差,基本功不扎实。
