德国的普法勒次在1546年成为信义宗的教区,但在这不久, 改革宗的信仰也在此地传开。因对圣餐礼观点的不同,发生了一 连串的争辩:信义宗认为基督的身体是实实在在地在饼与杯之中 ,而改革宗则主张饼与杯是基督同在的表征与记号。为了解决此 教义的分歧,当时在位的腓勒德利三世(Frederick III,1515- 1576)在研究这两观点之后,采纳了改革宗的论点。为了教育青 年,他不顾信义宗所施加的压力,邀请了数字海德堡大学的教授 ,也是改革宗的神学家,完成一个适用于学校、教会及讲台信息 教导的信仰问答,其中最主要的两位,是善于辩证的乌尔西努 (Zacharius Ursinus),及善于热诚表达的俄利维亚努(Casper Olevianus),他们二人的特长成为此问答的特色。腓勒德利三世 也积极地参与于著作的过程中,带着论战性的第80问答,是出于 他的建议,他并为德国的版本作了一篇序言。这份问答于1563年 的1月,在海德堡的议会中被采用,故以此名之。在出版的同时, 拉丁文版本也已完成。

《海德堡要理问答》在改革宗的信条著作中,是最具有权威 性及最为通行的,其原因有三:

1. 它被翻译成多种的语言,因此为许多的团体所采用。

2. 虽然是在激烈的神学争辩中产生的,但此问答却不具咄咄 逼人的辩腔,语气十分温和,除了第80条之外,文辞之间满有安 慰,而内容着重于实际信仰的需求,不重神学的研讨,所以颇受 普法勒斯以外改革宗教区的喜爱。

3. 此问答的组织与众不同,乃是照着罗马书的方式写成。全 文129个问答,分成三个部分:1到11是有关人类的罪及苦情;12 到85是有关基督的救赎和人的信,包括对使徒信经及圣礼的解释; 最后的部分强调人应有的响应,其中包括对十诫及主祷文的阐释。 故改革宗的神学观随处可见。

《海德堡要理问答》是改革宗信仰中著名的信条之一。它以两个热诚和满有安慰的问答作导言,然后按照《罗马书》的秩序而分为三个部分。第一部分是论人的愁苦(第三至十一问,参罗1:18至3:20);第二部是论人的拯救(第十二至八十五问,参罗3:21至11:36),包括《使徒信经》中各信条以及圣礼的解释。第三部是论感恩的生活(第八十六至一二九问,参罗12至16),包括对十诫和主祷文的解释。以上三个部分的划分,乃是依照灵性生活的自然进展即悔改、信仰和爱心而分的。改革宗教会通常在每一个主日下午或晚上根据《海德堡教理问答》的内容来讲道,因此该教理问答又按每年的五十二个主日划分。每一个问答都加上经文参考,便于读者查考圣经。《海德堡教理问答》并不是顺应世界新潮流的新教导,乃是源于圣经的“纯正话语的规模”(提后1:13)。在中国教会目前神学混乱,异端横行,教牧荒凉的时期,惟愿这一已经有四百多年历史,造就了无数圣徒的教理问答,能够使中国的圣徒“在所信的道上恒心,根据稳固,坚定不移”(西1:23)。正如改革宗神学家巴文克所言:“当错谬与异端愈来愈狡猾的时候,教会就要更加紧迫地留心所承认的真理,并且

确切地陈明她的信经。”(巴文克《基督教神学》,第八章“圣经与公认信条”)

尼西亚信经是在公元325年第一次召开的教会议会中制定的。当时亚利乌(Arius,256~336)及其理论在教会中造成分裂,他主张圣子为圣父所造,因此与圣父不同本质。此说被亚历山大的主教定为异端,但后来却因他的口才与政治长才,得蒙亚城之外地区的支持,而造成两派的对立。罗马皇帝君士坦丁(Constantine)深恐教会会因此分裂,于是在325年尼西亚这个地方召开会议,深盼在神学观点上取得共识。议会共有318位主教参加,除了少数几位来自西方教会之外,其余皆是说希腊语的东方教会代表,而这其中又分为安提阿的亚利乌派,亚历山大的正统派及由历史家优西比乌(Eusebius.260~340)所领导的中间派。当亚利乌派的代表优西比乌(非历史家)提出其信仰论点时,立即受到强烈的否定,且被定为异端;于是在皇帝的特使侯休斯(Hosiusof Cordova)的领导之下,完成了尼西亚信经,并经所有主教的签名表示接纳。此信经被送到帝国各处,是第一个具有权威又普遍的信仰告白。

尼西亚信经很明显的是反对亚利乌的神学:子是「从真神而来的真神」,虽是生出的,却是「从父而来」,而「非受造」;而且子是「从父的本体而来」,并且「与父本体相同」,都是针对亚利乌派错误而提出的。

此信经与今日教会使用的尼西亚信经并不完全相同,后者较前者

为长,且不包含一些尼西亚信经中重要的用语。为何有此演变,则无人知晓了!

尼西亚信经

1.我信独一上帝,全能的父,创造大地和有形无形万物的主。

2.我信独一主耶稣基督,上帝的独生子,在万世以前为父所生,出于神而为神,出于光而为光,出于真神而为真神,受生而非被造,与父一体,万物都是藉着他造的;

3.他为要拯救我们世人,从天降临,因着圣灵,并从童女马利亚成肉身,而为人。

4.在本丢彼拉多手下,为我们钉于十字架上,受难,埋葬;

5.照圣经第三天复活;

6.并升天,坐在父的右边;

7.将来必有荣耀再降临,审判活人死人;他的国度永无穷尽;

8.我信圣灵,赐生命的主,从父和子出来,与父子同受敬拜,同受尊荣,他曾藉众先知说话。

9.我信独一种圣大公使徒的教会;

10.我认使罪得赦的独一洗礼;

11.我望死人复活;

12.并来世生命。
