信用证的内容一般来说较为复杂,长句子多,涉及到金融、保险、商检、报运、银行等多项专业知识。信用证的审核既需要英语水平,还需要多年积累的经验。单证审核也是一项专门技术。

下面我们就对信用证条款中的一些关键英文词语做必要的翻译和分析,供大家参考。今天我们来看看other than。

请注意信用证中的这么一句话:

We will also accept a transport document issued by a courier or expedited delivery service evidencing that courier charges fire for the account of a party other than the consignee.
我方也将接受专递或快递机构出具的注明由收货人以外的一方承担的运费单据。

对付这种英语句子,仍然要用我们前面提到的做“手术”的方法,分段治之。 这个句子的主干部分无非是We will also accept a transport document,即“银行将接受运费单据”, 此其一;后面跟了一句做定语用的issued by… 过去分词结构,修饰先行词document,意即由谁来出具单据,此其二。第三,evidencing that… 仍然是定语成分,修饰前面的document;document 和evidence 之间,有着逻辑上的主谓关系,因此只能用现在分词evidencing。

现在,句子的主干也就清楚了,即银行将接受注明由xxx 承担费用的单据。最后再来看这个other than 是什么意思,该怎么理解。Other than 意为“除了,不同于,非”,是一个否定成分(except or meaning of not)。例如:

All parts of the house other than the windows were in good condition. (except that… ) 除了窗子外,屋子的其他部分都很好。

The truth is quite other than what you think. 事实真相同你想的完全不同。

I borrowed some book s other than novels. 我借了几本书,都不是小说。

由于同other than 这个词连用的词语很多,如more than,less than,rather than,no other than 等等;其意不尽相同。出现在以上这个句中的other than 之意就不可错译。

审核信用证是一个既要求专业又要求认真细致的工作,所以,一定要细心。并且在平时的工作中注意积累。

大部分的外贸工作者,有很多英语并没有多少级,也不是英语专业,由于中国目前的应试教育所“培养”出来的学生,大多数只有英语证书,听力和口语并不好。只能看邮件,回邮件,却害怕接到老外电话(我刚做外贸的时候就是一直担心客户打电话过来,第一个月居然就有一个国外一个外贸公司的业务员打电话过来叫我投标,说是时间就要到了,很急。至今还记得巴基斯坦的,口音很怪,哪是说的英语啊,完全是说的阿拉伯语)。可能有不少人有一些经历,老外打电话过来听不太懂他在讲什么,自己当然也没有适当的话应对,电话完了后还不知道是谁。这样种情况会产生两种后果:一是让客户觉得你不够专业或说英语不够好,对你公司的实力产生一定负面影响,二是很可能错失一个机会。

所以很多朋友可能是抱着求佛的心态,希望老外能规矩的透过邮件来联系。但是做外贸久了还是会碰到有些老外打电话过来的,如果对方本身英语很好至少能知道他讲的大概关于哪方面内容,如果对方也是英语一般(就像我的接到的第一个电话,带有"地方口音"),加上自己对自己的英语没有信心,基本上是无法沟通.如何能够有效改进??

本人也是英语很一般,但是接听电话多了,有一点点小领悟.希望能够帮到部分网友走出心里担忧

1、在看到有+19...电话时,第一时间准备好纸笔,方便记录.(这个是避免手忙脚乱)

2、接听后,礼貌的问候"HELLO",然后通常他会首先说他要找谁,你听到你的名字就说"THIS IS xxx SPEAKING"(礼节性问候,表示出亲切友好,并确认他没找错人)

3、接下来他会连续性的讲他要讲的话,这个时候很可能你没有思想准备或者尚未进入状态.那么你最好将他引导按照你的提问方式来回答,而不是叙述.你可以等他讲完一句时马上插进去说:"Excuse me,who is that speaking?"他会回答你名字,你记下来,然后问他"Where are you from,please?"知道他是哪国人.然后问他"What is the matter with you?"然后他会说关于哪方面的,通常打电话过来的都是最近和你电邮联系过的,极少是新客人.如果名字和国家你能想起或者马上在邮箱查找出是和你联系过的,你就能马上知道他会讲哪方面问题啦,如果想不起来,那就听他讲一下是关于哪个问题的,如果你听到了,但是不太明白讲的什么,你重复他的话给他听,那他会对你说的表示出"YES"或"NO"然后你再继续提问.(为找到这个人联系的相关邮件来了解他可能要讲的内容,以及引导他按照你的思路谈下去)

4、在你判断出你是否能够了解他说的,如果可以继续,如果不可以你就说"我了解您讲的,但是请你再发一封邮件确认一下"I understand what you said,but could you send an email to me to confirm,please?"然后问他是否知道邮箱地址,不知道你就告诉他,请他发过来.(这个其实也是不懂装一下懂,如果你听不懂不要不停的说NO,I DON'T KNOW或否定的词,你就听,然后要求他发邮件.目的当然是邮件能够看得更清楚他要表达的,也是避免客人流失)

5、如果你对对方的名字没有印象,或者没找到相关邮件,问一句他是否先前有发过邮件给你"Have you sent the email to me before?"然后注意听"YES"还是"NO"(这个是方便查找,即使当时没找到,现在找到他的邮件也不迟,回复时不要忘记加上一句"THANKS FOR YOUR CALLING")

6.最后要说上一句GLAD TO SPEAK WITH YOU,GOOD BYE.(最后是礼节性的了)

讲话中,要注意的问题:

1、你不要自己心里有包袱,认为自己英语不好(其实很多老外的英语也不好,但是为什么人家敢说呢?),从而没办法认真听对方讲的。(反正英语是不好,你就当是听不懂,能听一个是一个,就算全听不懂没人知道这通电话对吧)

2、你的语速很重要,你最好一个词一个词吐出来,一是方便对方听二是他会有意识的将语速放慢。

3.以上的用词都很简单,但是自己大脑要有一定的条理。

平时要做的:
1、邮件最好用OUTLOOK能够按国家或按人名分类,这个时候就大有用场了。
2、几个简单的英语单词还是要会的吧。平时多读一下这几个常用单词,争取发音十分准确。
3.当然是用SKYPE多练,买个耳麦,找几个愿意聊天的老外在线聊。一是了解人家能不能听懂你讲的二是熟能生巧,听多了保证你会想听到老外的电话。
4.抓住每个进来的电话练习,找出一个适合自己听电话的方式。

当然,听力还是要锻炼的,关于英语听力的其他练习方法,我们上海出口退税网将在以后的时间整理发布。
