范例(一)

I am Lin. Sophia is my English name. I am 18 years old, studying in a public high school. I come from a very happy middle-class family. My father works in a bank and my mother works in a bookstore. I am the only child in the family; however, I am not the so-called spoiled child. My parents have trained me to be independent since I was a child.

Throughout my academic years, I not only get good grades but also am very active on sport field and involved in school club activities. I play volleyball and enjoy the team spirit we have. I have joined the drama club and participated in many English speech contests. I really enjoy participating in school activities; I not only make many friends and have lots of fun but also gain many different valuable experiences.

I had been the class English assistant for almost three years. I liked to discuss and share the experience of learning English with people a lot. We often read China Post and Time Magazine then discussed their contents, the word usages and practice speaking English by discussing the articles we read. In the beginning, we found it hard because we could rarely understand the content, but we encouraged each other not to give up. Gradually, we had made improvement. We were so excited. Then the group discussion of English books and magazines became one of the most enjoyable thing for us to do every week. I won the first prize in the school English speech contest in my second year of high school and many of my English articles had been put on Students Post.

My fondness for English has been developed since my childhood. It is lonely to be the only child. I had no one to play with when I was a kid. My mother knew about this so she brought me with her all the time. Hence, bookstores became my childhood playground and books have been my playmates. Mother would show me those fancy books with cute illustrations on them. Firstly drawn by the pictures, I was curious about these strange symbols called “words.” This was my first contact with English. As I was interested in knowing what those symbol mean, my parents taught me a bit. As they felt that I was eager to learn, they got me an English tutor. Thanks to my parents, I have advantages in learning English by starting at a really early age.

My interest in English brought me to the world of English literature. I have been enchanted by this creative world, so I decide to major in English literature. My aim is to explore the world of literature and the world of great writers, opening my eyes and cultivating my mind through this great world of literature. Besides English literature, I also have a wide range of hobbies. I love reading, writing, music and movies. I have my active side as well. I enjoy swimming, hiking, traveling and getting close to Nature a lot. I believe we must achieve a sense of balance in our lives. As to my personality, I am creative, optimistic, determined, willing to help others and down to earth.

I want to be one of the literature students who has the privilege of studying great writers’ works and exploring their inner worlds, their outlook of lives, their roles as learned scholars and their influences on the world. I hope I can also make some contribution to the awareness of culture and literature in our society since its importance has been neglected.

我是林ｘｘ，苏菲雅是我的英文名字，我现在十八岁就读于公立的高中，我有着一个快乐美满的小康家庭，父亲在银行工作，母亲在书店里工作。家里只有一个小孩子，但我可不是那种被宠坏的小孩，父母亲就怕我变得娇纵，所以从小就训练我要独立。

在我求学的过程中我不仅品学兼优，在运动场上也是很活跃的一份子，同时也参与许多的社团活动。加入了排球社并且非常喜欢那种团队精神，我也是话剧社的一份子，还参加了许多次的英语演讲比赛。我非常喜欢参加学校的活动，不但可以交到许多朋友，享受许多的乐趣，并且还可以得到多种不同的宝贵经验。我当了快要三年的英文小老师，我很喜欢和别人讨论一起分享学习英语的经验。

我们常常阅读《中国邮报》和《时代》杂志，一起讨论内容和英文的用词，并且用英语练习讨论读过的文章。刚开始的时侯大家都觉得很难，因为我们甚至连文章都看不太懂，可是我们互相鼓励要大家不要放弃。渐渐的发觉我们的英文有进步了，我们可是兴奋至极呢，而后小组讨论英文书和杂志变成我们每周最快乐的事。我在高二时参加英语演讲比赛还得第一名，我写的许多英语文章还被刊登《学生邮报》上。

我对英语的兴趣是从小就开始培养的，当家里只有一个小孩是很孤独的，从小就没有人可以陪我玩，母亲知道我会孤单，所以她到哪里都带着我。书店便成为我小时侯的游乐场，书本也就成为我从小的玩伴。妈妈常常会拿一些有着很可爱插图的书给我看，一开始我就被书上的图案给吸引住了，后来对书上一堆叫做「文字」的怪怪符号感到好奇，这就是我第一次接触到英文。爸妈看见我有兴趣知道这些文字的意思，就教了我一些英文，当他们发觉我学习心切，便请了一位英文家教来。我要感谢我的父母让我很小就有机会学英语。

我对英语的兴趣带领我进入了英文文学的世界里，自此之后我就被这创造的园地给迷惑住了，因此我决定要主修英文文学。我希望能藉此探索文学以及作家们的世界，让这片伟大的文学天地来开阔我的视野并陶冶我的心智。

除了英文文学，我还有很广泛的嗜好。我喜爱阅读、写作、音乐以及电影。我也有好动的一面，游泳、登山、旅游和接近大自然都是我喜爱的活动。我一直认为人的生活中一定要能平衡。至于我的个性，我是一个有想象力丰富、乐观、有决心、喜欢帮助别人并且平易近人的人。

我想要成为文学院的学生，享有研读大师作品的优势，探索他们的世界、人生观，还有他们身为学问渊博的学者在社会上所扮演的角色，以及他们对世界的影响。我希望可以对这个将文化忽略的社会，尽小小的心力，来呼应文学的觉醒。

范例(二)

My name is Fang. I am now 17 years old. I have an English name called Matthew. I am studying in a private high school. There are five people in my family. My father is a military officer and my mother is a housewife. Both of my younger brother and sister are studying in junior high school. You might think that my family is a traditional and stern family because of my father; on the contrary, it is the opposite. My father is open-minded and a person of sense of humor. I must say that I am lucky to have such a happy family.

My father certainly has great influence on me, and I always look up to him. His passion and dedication to his job and family are the best things he gives us. He never forces us to do things we do not like. He gives us freedom of choice. That is why I can join so many school activities and have the chance to develop my hobbies.

I have been very active in school activities. I am one of the so-called computer freaks who just cannot keep their eyes off the computer screen. My friends know I am good in computer. As long as their computers have troubles, they would turn to me. I am also a pitcher on the school baseball team. Our team has won many, many matches; thus, we gained an honorable title of “unbeatable team.” I believe this resulted from our constant practice, hard work and our strong team spirit.

Although using computer and playing baseball take up most of my leisure time, I manage to spare some spare time to play the electronic guitar in a band. I use computer to make many of our songs into MIDI files and forward to many of my friends. My friends love them and think they are awesome. Being able to combine my knowledge of computer and music is my proudest thing. Don't get me wrong. I didn't neglect my study. Unless my grades in school are OK, my parents will not let me go for all these.

I have been interested in computer since I was in the fifth grade. That was the time when father had his big computer on his desk. Every time I saw father's face with great concentration while using computer, I developed my admiration to it. I said to myself, “I want to be like him one day.”

I liked to play around with my father's computer. One day I accidentally deleted one of my father's important files. I was so scared that my father would be furious with me. However, it was not the case. My father gave me a gift instead of punishment. I was so surprised. Guess what? Yes, I got a new computer. Ever since then, I have been addicted to computers, especially after the emerging of the Internet. Surfing the net has been one of my greatest hobbies.

The e-commerce has changed our traditional lifestyle. Take myself as an example, I keep in touch with my friends through e-mail messages, I send my

greetings through e-cards, I buy books from e-bookstores, I shop from many websites and I search information from the searching engine.

Beyond doubt, the importance of the e-era has brought most powerful revolution to the business world. Banks and stock market transaction through the net, business to business direct transaction through the net and the space and time limitation no longer exist. I am fascinated with the new change and eager to take part in it. So I have decided to study in Computer and Information Science. I want to be a professional computer programmer who creates and designs the software to meet the needs of people in e-era.

我是方ｘｘ，今年十七岁，我有个英文字名叫马修，现在就读于私立高中，我家里总共有五个人，父亲是军官，母亲是家庭主妇，我的弟妹均就读于国中。你可能会认为由于我父亲的关系，所以我家是一个传统又严肃的家庭。其实不然，相反的我父亲是个开明和充满幽默的人。我必须说能生长在这样快乐的家庭下是很幸运的。

我父亲对我有极深远的影响，我一直很崇敬他。他对家庭及工作的热诚全心的奉献，是他给我们最好的礼物。他从不强迫我们做不喜欢的事，给予我们自己选择的自由。这就为什么我能参加这么多学校的活动，并且能培养自己的兴趣。

我一直活跃于学校活动中。我是那种眼睛离不开计算机屏幕的计算机狂之一。，我的朋友知道我很擅长计算机事项，只要他们的计算机有问题，都会找我来帮忙。我也是学校棒球队的投手，我们的棒球队赢过无数的比赛，因而得到了「无敌球队」的称号。我相信这是我们不断练习，辛苦努力以及强烈的团队精神所得来的成果。

虽然计算机和棒球占用了我大部分的休闲时间，我还是挪出时间在乐团里弹电吉他。我用计算机将我们做的歌曲变成MIDI档，传送给许多朋友，朋友都很喜欢并且觉得这些作品很棒。能结合我对计算机和音乐的知识，是让我深感最骄傲的事。千万不要误会，我可没有荒废学业。除非我的成绩还可以，不然我父母不会让我加入这么多活动。

我从国小五年级就对计算机开始有兴趣了，那时父亲摆了一台大大的计算机在他桌上，每次看到父亲用计算机时，脸上专注的神情，就不由得起了崇拜的心。我对我自己说，将来有一天我也要变成像父亲一样。

我很喜欢玩父亲的计算机，有一天不小心把计算机里重要的一个文件给删除了。真害怕看见父亲愤怒的脸孔，然而事情并非如此，我父亲反而送我一个礼物，而不是处罚我。真是让我惊讶极了，猜猜礼物是什么？是的，就是一台新的计算机。从此之后我就迷上计算机了，在因特网出现后就沈溺得更深了，上网变成了我最大的嗜好。

电子商务已经改变了我们传统的生活方式，就拿我自己来举例：我用电子邮件和朋友联络、寄电子贺卡向朋友祝贺、由电子书店买书、从许多网站上买东西、利用搜索引擎来找数据。

更不用提电子时代对商业带来的重大改革，银行和股市直接在网上经营，公司和公司直接藉由网络进行交易，时间与空间的限制不再存在。我着迷于这新的改变，并想成为其中的一份子。因此我决定要主修信息科学，我想成为一位专业的程序设计师，帮助新时代的人创造和设计所需要的软件。

范例(三)

I am Tao. My English name is Angela. I am 17 years old. I am from Taipei First Girls' High School. I come from a well-to-do family. My mother passed away when I was in my first junior high year. My father is a computer engineer and remarried three years ago. My stepmother is an elementary school teacher. So I have a sweet stepbrother, who is now in the sixth grade. My grandparents live with us as well. My family get along pretty well.

Throughout my school years, my academic results have always been pretty good, except in the second half of the first year and the first half of the second year. It is because my mother's death was such a trauma to me. It took me more than a year to get better. My father was afraid that I would turn bad after that. So he encouraged me to join many extra-curricular activities. He sent me to piano class, ballet class and art class.

His purpose was that through music and art, I would find a way to release my pain so that my heart would be comforted. I am very grateful to my father's caring and thoughtful consideration. Ever since then, music is my spiritual guide and gradually becomes my most intimate companion. I then practice the piano very hard and make up my mind to become a pianist.

In my high school years, I have taken any chance to participate in school activities. I join the choir and jazz club, both clubs offering plenty of contests and performances for many occasions. We have won many contests and had been invited by the Mayor to perform in City Hall. I am also the member of art club, for I enjoy sketching and painting very much.

Every time when I have chance, I would go to the music theater to listen to symphony and orchestra performances. There is not once I would not be moved

by the music. I really admire those musicians' talent, passion and dedication to music. I wish one day I would be able to become one of them, performing on the stage and touring around the world. That's my passion and expectation to myself. I hope you would give me a chance to fulfill it.

我是陶ｘｘ，我的英文名字是安杰拉。今年十七岁，就读于台北市市立第一女子高级中学，家里环境很富裕，我母亲在我国一的时侯就去世了。我父亲是计算机工程师，在三年前再婚，我的继母是一位小学老师，因此我有位很可爱的弟弟就读于小学六年级。我们和爷爷奶奶同住，一家人相处的很融洽。

在我的求学过程中，成绩一直都很好，除了在国一下和国二上学期的时侯，因为母亲的去世，给了我无比的伤痛，经过了一年的时间我才渐渐恢复。这件事后由于父亲怕我会变坏，就鼓励我参加许多的课外活动，他送我去学钢琴、学芭蕾，还有学绘画。

他衷心的希望藉由音乐和艺术，我能找到抒发痛苦的管道，因而得到安慰。衷心的感谢父亲的关心及用心的呵护，此后音乐成为了我心灵的导师，逐渐的成为我最亲密的伴侣。我因而下定决心要勤练钢琴，将来成为一位钢琴家。

在高中时期，我尽可能的参与学校的活动。加入了合唱团和爵士乐团，这两个乐团都参加过无数的比赛和表演，曾经还被市长邀请至市府演奏。我还是艺术社团的一员，非常喜欢素描和画画。

只要我一有时间，我就会去音乐厅里欣赏聆听交响乐团和管弦乐，没有一次不被感动的。我十分敬佩这些音乐家们的天分、对音乐的热忱及奉献。真希望有一天能成为他们其中的一份子，能够站在舞台演奏，并参加巡回表演。这是我对音乐的热衷和对自己的期望，希望你们能给我一个实现的机会。

I am Mark Huang, a second-year senior high school student. I am seventeen years old. I am from a well-to-do family and the eldest child of three. My father and mother run a trading company; my younger sister is in junior high school and our baby brother goes to elementary school. Since I am the eldest child, it makes me an independent, responsible and mature person.

我是高中二年级的洪马克，年龄十七岁。生长在富裕的家庭，我是家中的长子。父母亲开了一间贸易公司，妹妹就读于国中，还有一个读国小的小弟。身为长子让我学会了独立自主、负责任和成熟。

I have great interest in computer. I have played with computer for almost seven years. My computer skill is superb. My friends always come to me for their computer problems. I know how to set up a website and make flash animations. Currently I have my own website, sharing my habits and interest with people around the world. My website is mainly about topics of computer, basketball and movies. I also make many funny flash cartoons on basketball.

我对计算机有极大的兴趣，接触计算机也已经将近七年的时间。我的计算机技能很棒，我的朋友只要计算机出了问题就来找我。我会架设网站并且会制作flash 动画。目前我有自己的网站，运用网站将我的兴趣和全球的人分享。网站主要以我喜爱的计算机、篮球和电影话题为主。我也制作了有趣的篮球动画。

I have met many net pals from many countries. We exchange information, ideas, school lives and academic problems. We have to communicate with one

another in English; thus, after these years of practicing English, it certainly helps me a lot in English and I become the top student in English course. Not to mention I am already the No.1 student in computer field.

My name is Yang. I am 17 years old. My English name is Wendy. There are seven people in my family, and I am the second child among five. My father is the undertaker of a factory and my mother is a housewife. My sister is a university student, while my younger sisters and brothers are junior high school students. Luckily, I have a happy family with open-minded parents and a life with affluent materials.

我的名字是杨ｘｘ，今年十七岁，英文名字是温迪。我家有七个人，五个小孩中我排行第二。父亲是一家工厂的负责人，母亲是家庭主妇，大姊在念大学，其他的弟妹们都还在国中就读。很幸运的，我的父母都很开明，物质生活也一直很充裕。

Since I was a kindergarten student, I have enjoyed singing and dancing very much. Usually, I volunteered to perform in front of the class. I remembered then, I liked to watch variety shows, and that's how I learned to sing popular songs. Those singers and actors who perform in TV programs were my idols. Every time we held the birthday celebration parties for my grandparents, it was I who had to imitate the singers in front of the relatives to amuse everybody. That was the first time I felt entertaining people is such a great enjoyment.

Throughout my school years, I have been an ordinary student on study, but have excellent performances on school activities. Speech, painting, singing

contests are altogether my battlefield and the place for me to win my honors. Besides, I have a wide range of hobbies. I enjoy reading novels, seeing movies,

swimming, mountain hiking, roller-skating and traveling overseas. Also, I join the badminton and drama clubs. I spend most of my time in the drama club after school, for each of our club members has to undertake the role of both the actors and the staff. There is so much work to do before a play is ready and all of our club members have to contribute ourselves to what we are good at. While working with those vigorous and creative fellows, I never feel tired or bored.

This summer, my drama club had produced a play called “Aladdin” as our graduation ceremony show. I played Aladdin's mother, a comic role in the play with greedy and sarcastic characteristics. Because it is a musical, all the performers had to sing and dance at the same time. And thanks to two professional teachers who volunteered to instruct us, we even did the chorus during the play which was a quartet with fantastic dancing. During the holidays we came to school doing rehearsals and made costumes and props. We did the play very successfully and that was really a wonderful experience. I was so enchanted by this creative stage world that I started to consider seriously whether this is a dream for me to pursue. My parents told me to do what I want but not what I am expected to and this is why I decided to apply for the drama department.

今年夏天，我们话剧社制作了一部舞台剧「阿拉丁」做为毕业公演。我饰演阿拉丁的妈妈，那是一个贪心又世故的丑角。因为这是一部音乐剧，所有演员在演出时都要边唱边跳。幸好有两位专业的老师自愿担任我们的指导。假日的时侯，我们到学校来彩排还有制作服装及道具。我们的演出非常成功，那真是一次很棒的经验。我深深地为这个富有创造力的舞台世界所著迷，因而我开始认真的考虑到这底是不是我可以追逐的梦。父母亲告诉我，要做自己想做的，而不是别人期望你做的。这就是为什么我来应试戏剧系。

I want to become a stage actress, just like other companions who have the same ideal. To me, a play can not only offer people entertainment, but also, most of the time, provide people with a different point of view toward lives. Compared with those who come from a professional school with fully trained skills, maybe I am far too idealistic and na?ve. I know nothing is easy and I think being a drama department student would be a big challenge. I learned a line from my English teacher, which is “Not until you give it a try will you not know the result.” I got passion and expectation to myself, and wish you would give me an opportunity to make my dream come true.

我想跟其他有同样理想的同伴一样，成为一个舞台剧演员。对我来说，戏剧不只是提供人们娱乐，而且，很多时侯，还能提供人们对人生不同的看法。跟来自专业学校、有着完整训练的学生比起来，我或许太天真或理想化。我知道没有什么事是简单的，而且我认为成为一个戏剧系的学生将会是一挑战。英文老师教过我们一个句子 「只有去尝试之后才会知道结果是什么」。我有热情，对自己充满期许，希望您能给我一个实现梦想的机会。
