You should say:

who this person was

what he/she looked like

Part 3

Are there any differences between childhood friends and friends in adulthood?

Actually yes. First, a childhood friendship has innocence and there are easier ties to make with someone when you are younger. There are also easier ways to find things in common with another person when you are younger. When you’re older it’s kind of like having the safety net removed. Then, you can do something as a kid in a friendship and it’s either cute or brushed off. As an adult it’s a little harder because if something is misconstrued then even the most rational person can get upset.

Which do you think is better, to have a large group of friends or just a few close friends?

Definitely a few good friends. Less worry and problems to deal with. I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to close friends. I feel more comfortable hanging out with my small band of pals, and I know I can be myself and I trust them all implicitly.

Well, the way people make friends today is not much different from the way people used to. You meet someone and hang out with them and see if your personality clicks.

What do you think is the value of teaching history in school?

History always helps us to understand the present about a person, society or nation. For example, history of the Egyptian, Indian and Chinese civilizations gives us a good idea of how people lived, worked or fought in wars in the past and how the world has progressed over the centuries. Take a passion to study history you will discover that many countries have so many amazing secrets, stories and knowledge to offer. And the past can in some way help us to predict about the future.

Describe an important letter you wrote. You should say

?

?

? who you wrote to ① when you wrote it ② what you wrote ③

and explain why you wrote that letter ④

①②Many years ago i once wrote a love letter to a girl - a Pisces girl. I remember I sent her favorite orchids with my handwritten love letter attached.

③She became my girlfriend not too long after she received my letter. I guess she really liked the way how the letter was written. It was more of poetry than prose. I poured all my love and affection like sweet real orange juice to a shiny glass. She decided to have the love letter read by all her dorm mates it was passed from one hand to another and she was so proud of it and she even framed it like it were the picture of a saint.

④Why I wrote this letter? It's a love letter, surely because I loved her. I can explain a bit why I handwrote it. Sometimes a

thoughtful handwritten letter is just what a girl needed, and it is sometimes better then an email. I just think it takes more effort to sit down to write and then send it through regular mail. That makes it more special. For a girl, it's satisfying to hold a letter written by a boy's hand, and it's lovely that the boy took the time and care to do so.

Nowadays, people tend to write letter by computers, there was a time, not so long ago, when letter writing was a real craft. Lexical Resouce:

and explain what you would say to this person.

If you wanna talk about playground legends, the conversation begins right there. is the legend. You can hear all the stories in the world, but you'll never believe it until you see it. He's done inhuman stuff, unreal stuff.

Hook was by far the best player to come out of Oakland. Demetrius Hook Mitchell is the Bay's most notorious legend. Every cat with at least minimal knowledge of playground ball has a Hook Mitchell story. The tales of his leaping ability are common place. Jumping over cars, bikes and people wasn't no thing to Hook. Before his descent into narcotics hell, Hook was nothing but heavenly. If he'd just kept his head straight, he'd be in the league right now, dominating.

Unfortunately, Hook lives in a prison cell now and in other folks' memories.

Several NBA stars who also grew up in Oakland, including Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Antonio Davis, Drew Gooden, and Brian Shaw, all of whom played with Mitchell on the streets, and were astonished by his skills, but were unable to help him avoid his sorry fate. They describe his unstable home life and the longing for community that drove him to the streets. Mitchell himself is shown playing prison league games, and is surprisingly still able to play above the rim.

His story, like others, was written on courts between the West and East Bay.

Describe a long journey you enjoyed.

You should say

?

?

? where you went when and why you went there what landscapes you saw

(7) - A long journey and explain why this was such an unforgettable trip.

One journey I went on that was very long indeed was my trip around Europe last summer, travelling by train.

I went for a whole month, going all around Europe from my home country of England east until I got to Eastern Europe, and then back in a loop to Italy. I went so I could see the rich history and culture of the continent, which was practically on my doorstep. I felt it was high time I embarked on a long trip to experience some more of the world and its people.

Travelling by train I kept myself occupied by looking out of the window at the landscapes as they flashed by. The countryside was mostly fields, but once I got to the Alps then it became beautiful. There were towering cliffs of rocks with fast-flowing rivers cutting between valley walls. I could even see a castle on one of the hillsides. Each city I visited brought a new style of architecture and type of person on the street. I saw medieval cottages, baroque cathedrals and shabby, modern apartment blocks. The landscape varied with each country I came to.

I?ll never forget this trip because it was the first time I was travelling without a home base. I went with a good friend and we spent a lot of time together. We had memorable conversations on the long train journeys about live, society, religion... all very deep stuff. I also had the chance to see some of the world?s most famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Dom cathedral in Cologne. It was fascinating waking up on a moving train knowing that the next stop I got off at was going to present me with a whole new country with many surprises. It was a unique experience.

(5) - An Ideal Home

① Speaking of the ideal home that I would like to live in... Err... It must be in suburban area, far away from the noise, hustle & bustle of the outside world.

② Flat, Terraced, Detached or Semi-detached, whatever type of house it would be as I don't really care. It must be spacious & bright, this is what I focus on. I hate being in a dark cramped room with a low ceiling, I will be hyperventilating.

③ I would love to decorate my house lovingly, as well as casual. I'd like to put lots of posters into a picture frame to hang on a wall, and I'd also like to put some hooks up and lay musical instruments across the hooks.

④ It'd be quiet, comfortable and private, like a cozy heaven. The blue walls make me think of the calming vast seas that relax me. The base boards and shutters are white which remind me of the pure white clouds in the sky. The white in my room helps me to have pure and clean thoughts. Soft muted colours of the walls and bright colors of the accents make me feel creative and safe. To live in such an ideal house, I feel totally relaxed.

(4) - Sth that helped U learn another language

① The thing that helps me learn another language is an Electronic English-Chinese Dictionary. This gadget was given by my granny on my 18th birthday. It?s handy, glossy, and super thin.

② It has a PDA style interface, where I could write an unknown character, then have the dictionary magically tell me what it was.

③ Why learn English? English is not only the most useful language in the world but also one of the easiest languages to learn and to use. And of course, if you want a good job, get out of the armchair and start learning English now! If you already have a good job, start learning before you lose it!

④ The dictionary includes not only definitions, but plenty of usage examples and sentences. It contains great idiomatic and colloquial phrases, both for US and UK English -- in addition to the more "standardly" used meanings. Also, the word search history list makes it very easy to jump back to a word you looked up earlier, making it a very valuable study tool.

I personally think my electronic dictionary is the single best investment I've made in my own English.

② I was undertaking a trip to South Manhattan and took the ferry ticket to go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Statue of Liberty is a must-see as it's one of the most famous monuments in the world.

③ The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from France to United States. It is indeed a giant figure, almost 93 meters tall, one of the tallest statues ever built. Lady Liberty's right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty and her left hand clutches a stone tablet.

④ I thought the Statue of Liberty was waving to me. I was totally shocked, how breathtaking! I think for many it symbolized

1. What are the different ways people get news?

Mass mediaanother way for us to get news.

2. What types of news do you like?

TV news, Radio News, Internet News.......

? I prefer TV news to the radio news. I can get a better understanding of the news on TV because I can see the vivid

pictures and images. In addition, I feel more convinced of the news through watching some TV interviews.

Local, Entertainment, Finance, Sports, Politics...

?

? I prefer local news. because it relates to my day to day stuff. To see if there are any crimes in my area I need to be aware of, to know what the weather will be like, & to see if there's any good show in town. I like international news because I like to keep up-to-date about what's going on in the world in case I'm going on

vacation, or need to do business abroad. I also like it because it teaches me about other cultures and that way learn a lot

about human psychology.

3. Do you think children like (= are interested in) the news? (Why?/Why not?)

No I don't think they are interested because it is soo depressing and kids look for humour in TV also they would be too young to understand what was going on.

There could be an announcement on the News about a Nuclear Bomb being on its way here and a lot of people would still stay , they are like: "Oooh, turn it over....... Its all doom and gloom on the news." (doom and gloom: A deeply pessimistic outlook or feeling.

4. Are old people and young people interested in the same (kinds of) news? (Why?/Why not?)

If they aren't, they should be. A young person can learn so much from a senior, and a senior can learn a lot from a young person also. But on average, I would say kids like stuff about sports music and entertainment more than seniors do.

It really depends on the individual and not their age. For example: I know young people who are very interested in global events and some elderly interested in celebrity watching, and vice-versa. It is individual preference.

5. How does the news affect people?

News will affect people's expectations about the future. They will rearrange and adapt their plans to the changes they get from the news. For instance, a large number of people keep an eye on what's going on in the stock market..........

News influences people by only reporting certain things and leaving out parts that could matter. One sided news or journalism isn't news but propaganda in my opinion. It's like the good old saying LeLe always mentioned: Some people would rather

believe the lies of Satan than the truth of God. Describe a traditional(happy) event that you attended.

You should say:

what this event is

when it happens

who participates in this event and what they do

and explain how you feel about this event.

The traditional event which impresses me most is the Chinese traditional wedding.

The red letter date will be picked by the groom's parents. Both the bride and the groom's house will be decorated in red in advance. The groom's family will send out a precession of servants, entertainers and a carriage which is carried by four servants to the bride's family to bring the bride back. The bride and the groom will worship the heaven and the earth, the groom's ancestors and they will also serve tea to all their superiors in the family. After the meal, the new couple will return to the bridal room and some naughty friends may tag-along and play tricks on the groom. Then, the couple will finally be left with themselves and the groom can take off the red cloth that covers the bride's face. You know in the ancient times, a man may probably marry a woman that he had never met before, that is to say, the first time to see the wife's face was in their bed, which was really exciting.

That's why I found the traditional wedding so interesting. Now more and more young people choose to have a traditional wedding, which means there is a growing trend towards the traditional culture. That's quite delightful.

Part3: Do you know of any differences between weddings in China and those in the West?

?

?

?

?

?

? Groom(新郎) Best man (伴郎) Groomsmen(男傧相) Bride (新娘) Maid of honor(伴娘) Bridesmaid(女傧相) Flower girl(花童) Ring bearer(戒童) Minister(神父) Usher (引宾员) something new ① Bride wears white gown & white veil (stands for purity). The bride should also have:

?

?

? something old something borrowed something blue

同时,新娘穿戴的衣物中必须包括有新的、旧的、借来的和蓝色的四种东西(something new,something old,something borrowed and something blue)。

?

?

?

② With the <Wedding March>, the bride's father leads her to the altar.

③ Music stops… Minister will ask: Who gives this woman to be married to this man?

Father: My wife and I do. (Then the bride is given away to the groom.)

? Wedding Vows: I (name), choose you (name) to be my (husband/wife), to respect you in your successes and in your

failures, to care for you in sickness and in health, to nurture you, and to grow with you throughout the seasons of life.

?

? A: This ring is a token of my love. I marry you with this ring, with all that I have and all that I am. B: I will forever wear this ring as a sign of my commitment and the desire of my heart.

⑥ Throwing rice at the bride and groom as they leave the wedding.

They cut the wedding cake and feed each other a bite.

The bride throws her bouquet of flowers up in the air, the girl to catches the flower will be the next one to get married.

The groom throws his new wife's garter belt up in the air, the boy to catches the belt will be the next one to get married.

Two Catchers Meet: The catcher of the flowers and the catcher of the garter belt meet together. The boy then puts the garter belt on the girl's leg slowly. The higher up the leg, the better.

Describe a show or performance that you enjoyed watching.

You should say

what kind of performance it was

when and where you saw it

and explain how you felt about this performance.

Sample Answer:

I'm crazy about hip-hop music. My favorite musician is an American rapper- Eminem. I went for his Hip-hop concert in Glasgow 5 years ago. I remember in 2003, Eminem came to Scotland for his Europe Concert tour and his first station was Glasgow. I went to get the ticket as soon as I heard of the exciting news. Still a wee bit late, it was "on the pitch". 50 Cent, D12, Marilyn Manson, Dido were all along with Eminem on that tour and performed on the stage.

The stadium was totally full, left no one seat empty. 20,000 people at the very best were on the pitch, 70,000 in total more

likely. When 50 Cent was on stage, it was pretty tame. But as soon as Eminem came out, all the girls started rushing up towards the stage. I was almost trampled. He played a song with his heart which was written by himself to his daughter. I was blown away by this song, and it was the highlight of the night for me. Eminem played over his time limit, had lots of contact with the audience, and played 3 curtain call songs. We were all surprised when Eminem came back out with the lights up and no back up.

I must say that it was an AMAZING performance!

【重要】 我总结出一些关于描述"how you felt about this performance"的口语补充资源,大家可以仔细看一下,上面的Sample Answer切不可原文背诵:

1. It ended up with 72,000 - 75,000 as a total attendance, there's a crush.

2. He can really sing and hold a note!

3. She performed mostly her past hits, thankfully!

4. He didn't dance too much, but regardless, he gave a wonderful performance!

5. I've seen many great aritsts live, from Madonna to Eminem to Janet Jackson, and this was my favorite and the BEST CONCERT!

6. Words cannot express how AMAZING this concert was!

7. Their love and passion touched every single person in the arena. I felt honored to be a part of something so spectacular.

8. Oh my gosh, this was literally the best concert I've ever been too. Well worth money.

9. I went to the concert with my fiance (soon to be wifey) and we had a blast.

10. Not only that they hyped up the crowd, but to me that was a huge party,I had a feeling like we were all part of the stage.

11. I went to this concert and i swear my tears came out when Jlo came up from the ground.

12. I felt so inspire by her, i went to work the next day with a soar throat from all the screaming.

13. He rocked that stage. Jackson is like my biggest inspiration no doubt, i could not believe that i was so close to him.

14. Watching them both give 110% on that stage and being a part of this wonderful time in their lives was absolutely incredible. Describe a wild animal in your country.

One never tires of watching lovely red-crowned cranes.

Red-crowned Crane is snow white with a black neck, black patches on its wings and red on top of its head. It stands almost five feet tall and has long legs. It has a long pointy beak for spearing its prey.

Cranes are regarded as a bird of good luck in China. In Chinese culture, cranes have existed for over 3,000 years. Then there have been a lot of legends and stories about cranes. Red-crowned Crane can live as long as 60 years. So it is the longest-living of all bird species. For centuries, cranes have been revered in China as symbols of longevity.

The image of the Red-crowned Crane can be seen in many places in China. People often draw red crowned crane and pine together. The lifespan of both pines and cranes are very long. So people use them to symbolize longevity. Red-crowned cranes dance the most beautiful dances in the world of birds. While dancing, they half-open their wings, and they jump around and sing for each

other. That's why peopele consider crane as elegance.

Red-crowned cranes are one of the world's most endangered species. Despite protective laws, poaching continues to remain a problem.

Describe the type of film you most enjoy watching.

You should say:

what this type is ①

what the characteristics of this type are ②

when you last watched this type ③

and explain why you like this type. ④

① Among all types of films, I like war films best.

② The first obvious feature of war films is that it involves at least one hero in the story, who is often brave, smart and unselfish. In addition, the battle scenes which involve large number of soldiers, planes and weapons vividly present a picture of what wars were actually like.

③ Recently, I watched a war film named Assembly directed by the famous Chinese director Feng Xiaogang. It was a drama about a soldier of a People's Liberation Army unit during the civil war in the 1940s. The soldier, once a company commander, devotes his life to redeeming the honor of fellow soldiers who are declared missing in action. The film has been called the Chinese version of “Saving Private Ryan”, and indeed, the film looks like seriously brutal stuff.

④ I like war films first because I can learn more about history through watching this kind of film. And I am especially interested in historic wars and battles, like the battle of Somme and so on. War films present to us a vivid picture of how brutal a war can be. Besides, I can appreciate the bravery and unselfishness of those heros in war films, like the captain in the Hollywood hit Saving Private Ryan.

1. What types of film are most popular in China?

?

? There's no one type of film which is the most popular in China actually. Chinese audiences like all kinds of film: comedy, tragedy, detective film.etc. I guess new year films are most popular. They're kind of domestic-made big budget fims. It has somehow become a

cultural phenomenon in China for audiences to cram into the cinema to watch those films specially made for the new year season.

2. Do Chinese people like going to the cinema to see films? ?

?

? Yes. The price of the ticket is reasonable in China, more and more people like going to the cinema to experience the real life sound and larger than life size screen. Generally speaking, Chinese people like going to the cinema to see films because you are more involved in the film and the

environment helps you focus your attention on the film and enjoy it. When a blockbuster is on in China like Assembly or Lust, Caution, many people go to the cinema to watch them.

3. Compare the films that older people like to watch with those that younger people like.

?

? Mostly, older people like slow tempo movies with classic plot, for example: movies about animals and novels...Younger people like anything, from affectional movies to horror movies. Mostly, older people like slow movies with not-so-abstract plots, like movies about novels and historical events. And they

always prefer comedies to tragedies. Compared with them, younger people have a broader range of taste. They like almost all kinds of films, especially romance, sci-fi and action movies.

4. How has science and technology affected the way films are made today?

?

? Computer is playing a more important role in today's films to make special effect. Special effect makes the films more exciting. With the development of science and technology, film studios are able to create more vivid picture of scenes in the

scientific fictions. Such development enables more companies to produce more successful sci-fi movies, like the ET and Star Wars series.

20xx年雅思口语话题卡解析(十): A book you recently read

Describe a book you recently read.

You should say

what book it was

when you read it

why you read it

and explain what you liked and (possibly) disliked about the book.

what book it was

As you may know, many Chinese people love complex love stories and the <Dream of the Red Chamber> is perhaps the most popular and well-developed of them.

when you read it

I have read the whole novel from the beginning to the end only once 3 months ago, but I like it and I felt myself loss when I finished that novel. I lingered at the last few chapters for long enough to get myself back to a normal life.

why you read it

It tells us the difference between Chinese literature and Western literature. At the end of each chapter, there is always a line which says ?if the reader wants to know what happens next, please read the next chapter?. The line suggests that these chapters were each written separately over a period of time, thus, it functions as a reminder for readers to wait for the next chapter. These were the most developed stages of Chinese fiction writing.

And explain what you liked about the book

Moreover, the reason for the novel?s outstanding reputation and distinguishable status is that the novel is ?the direct way to learn about Chinese culture. You cannot read Laozi or Confucius to understand Chinese society and Chinese people, while the book is the shortcut?. Therefore, the language used for this classical work is between formal and colloquial. In addition, the work was completed during Qing dynasty which is the last feudal empire in Chinese history, thus, the language is classical but also quite close to modern Chinese; it is intelligible for Chinese readers without any footnotes. Furthermore, exaggerated expressions are frequently used in the original text to show the author?s irony towards the society.

what book it was

Dream of the Red Mansions, written in the 18th century, is undoubtedly one of the most distinguishable classical novels of Chinese literature. The story has been made into numerous mini series and TV operas.

when you read it

I have read it (the Chinese version) several times, and have it handy in my palm in case I want to read it. I think I read it the first time when I was in middle school and it was kind of difficult (yes because of the huge number of characters and the sub-plots and so on). But then it got easier and easier. You have to read it and know the stories and the poems because they are so frequently quoted.

why you read it

I deeply love the romance between the characters, that?s why I read it that often. I don't know much about the English version but it'd be definitely difficult to translate this novel into any other languages. I wonder how one can translate the puns which expressed some deeper meaning, or probably the best way is to skip it or giving some footnotes (which will ruin the novel).

And explain what you liked about the book

The main character is Baoyu (寶玉), and his love interest is his cousin Daiyu (黛玉), who is the daughter of his aunt (father's sister). Baoyu finally marries another cousin Baochai (寶釵). Baoyu, before he comes to this world, was a rock/jade, and Daiyu a plant. The rock used to water the plant. So Daiyu has to pay back the debt to Baoyu with all her tears in this life. (How romantic.) The poems I like best are the two which foretell their fates in Baoyu's dream.

And the scene before Daiyu dies, when she buries the fallen flowers, is very very very famous, called "黛玉葬花".

And there's another famous poem called 紅豆詞, which has been made into a song. Just the other day I was listening to it at a fashion boutique.

I could go on and on.

Describe something that you don't know but would like to learn.

You should say

what it is you would like to learn

why you want to learn this

how you would learn it

who you would ask to help you learn this

and explain what difficulties you think you might have learning this.

I would like to learn knitting, which is called the "new yoga". It is very relaxing and is the perfect hobby for our busy, stressful, 21st-century life.

I think it's just a fashionable hobby with women in their 20s and 30s. because Hollywood stars like Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Madonna all knit, they lead the way. I always see people knitting in coffee shops, hairdressers', bookstores. They knit wherever and most of time they even knit through lunch break.

Time issues and safety things. I come back from work, mad and stressed almost every day. I'm not sure if I will get around to do it. It's hard to believe that something you enjoy doing could potentially be painful, but when it comes to knitting, for some people there is such thing as too much of a good thing. I heard the needles are always sharp, fingers getting pricked is awful. Also, I cannot imagine sitting for long periods in the same position. Posture must be important in this way.

Anyway,I believe i can overcome all the difficulties and, after I start knitting, I will be really into it and find myself totally

relaxed.Knitting helps me clear my head and start fresh, slows down my heart and lowers my blood pressure. Hopefully one day, I can knit wonderful purses and scarves, which is very romantic and colors my life.

Part3 Questions:

Do you think computers are useful for teaching skills to children?

? I teach both online and face to face and I don't think a computer can replace a teacher completely, but it can do a lot of

useful work for learners. The fact that they can access things when they want for free gives them advantages that were

simply not possible until very recently. however, the biggest advantage to me is not the computer's ability to serve up tests and references, but the ability to put people in touch with other people. Things like forums make it possible for learners to ask what they want, when they want and to get answers from all over the world, which is only possible through the

Internet.

Do you think computers can completely replace teachers.

? Never... For example, computers will never teach students the intuitive critical thinking skills that come from taking

liberal arts courses, nor will computers teach students how to be good scientists, journalists, businesspeople, etc.

Computers simply allow people who have already developed their job and life skills to access information faster and

compute quicker. A good scientist is a good scientist, whether or not she has access to a computer, and likewise with

almost all other professions.

Do you think it would be good to increase the use of computers in education and, as a result, reduce the

amount of face-to-face interaction between teachers and children?

? A teacher is nothing more than a guide or "coach" who is meant to train you how to look up the answers for yourself. A

computer can not guide you, and you still need to learn how to use the computer properly to discount the incorrect

answers that can be found. Remember, Garbage In Garbage Out. With a computer there is always room for error. A

teacher is supposed to show you how to do it for yourself, or lead you to finding your own answer.

Tips:

Garbage In, Garbage Out: (abbreviated to GIGO) is a phrase in the field of computer science or ICT. It is used primarily to call attention to the fact that computers will unquestioningly process the most nonsensical of input data and produce nonsensical output.

Garbage In, Garbage Out:

1. Daily conversation. 2. Individual long run. 3. Two-way discussion.

Examiner: Do have any brothers or sisters?

这时候我们如果回答Yes, I do.或者No, I don?t.

No, I don’t. I’m the only child of my family. But I have a cousin, with whom I grew up. So I never felt lonely.

flowers weekends

Examiner: What subject are you studying?

I?m studying...I?m majoring in...My major is...或者 My subject is. I?m doing something at my university. I’m doing Business Management at Renmin University.

Describe an interesting subject that you studied in school or university.

You should say:

What the subject was

Who taught you

How the teacher taught this subject

and explain why you think it was interesting.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the subject was (用Answer + details来简单交代)My favorite subject was English Literature, which was taught as part of the overall English courses in the second year of university.

Who taught you (用Answer + details来简单交代)Dr. Fitzgerald, a visiting scholar from America. He was very strict and demanding.

How the teacher taught this subject (用Answer + details来简单交代)She had a unique way of teaching English. Learning was always fun. She always started her lessons with very challenging real world problems and helped the class walk through the solutions.

And explain why you think it was interesting. 比如:老师在教学过程中经常举例子always gives examples, 不严厉或过分讲究without being strict and picky, 让我觉得自信 made me feel really confident.

Compare the importance of facilities and equipment with the importance of good teachers.

Teachers are more important.

Facilities only support and reinforce learning. I guess most students consult their teachers when a problem arises, when something is vague in their "facilities". When that case happens the teacher comes in to help "facilitate" the learning process. They can guide and teach you.

Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say!

Examiner: Do you like your university?(你喜欢你的大学么?)

Candidate: Well, it’s ok. I don’t like the academic thing, but there’s great campus life.(还可以吧,我不喜欢学术的东西,但是这儿的校园生活很棒!)

Examiner: Why did you choose to study this subject? Do you like it?(你为何选择学习这个专业?

Candidate: Not really. Actually I didn’t choose this subject myself. My parents did. Well, I can’t be bothered! I found all the subjects there are very boring.(不喜欢。

Examiner: What type of music do you like?(你喜欢什么类型的音乐?)

Candidate: Well, I am not too fond of music. But sometimes I do like listening to religious music. It gives peace to my mind and joy to my soul.(我不是特别喜欢音乐。

Examiner: If you had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, what instrument would you learn?(如果你曾有机会学习一种乐器,你会学什么?)

Candidate: No, nothing! I am very unmusical! I cannot even sing in tune. Also, instrument’s always pretty

expensive. If you are really into music, just whistling will do.(什么也不学,我没音乐细胞,甚至唱歌都跑调儿。

Examiner: Do you like flowers?(你喜欢鲜花儿么?)

Candidate: Not at all! I'm a little strange. They remind me of funerals.

Examiner: How does the news influence people?(新闻如何影响人们?)

Candidate: News influences people by only reporting certain things and leaving out parts that could matter. One sided news or journalism isn’t news but propaganda in my opinion. It's like that good old saying: Some people would rather believe the lies of Satan than the truth of God(新闻只是通过报道某一些事情或者报道部分事情来影响人们。

American marriage customs

People in the U.S., when they attain legal marriage age and meet certain medical requirements, are free to choose their own mates. Once a

couple has decided to get married, the man customarily gives the girl a diamond right. The use of a ring comes fro the ancient custom of using a ring to settle an important agreement. When the wedding day is decided upon, the girl sends out wedding announcements or invitations to friends and relatives. They then send wedding gifts to the girl’s home.

On the wedding day it is supposed to be bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before the wedding. Another old custom that many people believe will bring good luck to the marriage is for the bride to wear ‘something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue’.

When a couple married, the groom gives his bride a wedding ring. Many marriages are double-ring ceremonies-that is, the bride and the groom exchange rings. The wedding ring is customarily a simple plain gold band. The roundness of the ring symbolizes eternity and announces that the couple is united for life. The wedding ring is worn on the third finger of the left hand. People believe that a vein from the third finger runs directly to the heart.

Near the end of the reception, which is offered by the brides parents, the bride throws her bouquet of flowers to the unwed bridesmaids. The lucky girl who catches it is supposed to be the next in the group to be married. As the bride and groom leave for their honeymoon, the guests all throw confetti on them. This is a symbol of joy and happiness.
