ABSTRACT

Homosexuality is a non-ignorable group which always exists in the margins of society silently. Although in our world, here is just fewer of them, they really have a long

history——the first record of it even dates back to the Spring and Autumn period.

However,by reason that only heterosexuality could reproduce and give birth to babies, arguments among homosexuality never end up. Actually, we are in the twenty-first century, a new era now, but quite a few homosexuality still suffer from discrimination as well as unjust treatment.

So should we teach people about the importance of equality, whether they are

heterosexual or homosexual? Or just limit homosexuality, depriving of their rights? With the number of homosexuality is arising now, these questions should be solved urgently.

Keywords: sexual orientation, tolerance, heterosexuality, right.

The right of homosexuality should be protected

Recently with Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook came out on Thursday, October thirtieth, more and more people are beginning to be aware of a group of people in our

world—Homosexuality, who’s lover is of same sex, is always existing in the margins of

society silently. They are also called gay or lesbian. And at this era, Twenty-first Century, the

love among same-sex people is more and more widespread. Actually almost three to four

percent people are homosexuality on average. Although the number of them is dramatically

increasing now, their situation is still not optimistic.

According to the survey, there are nearly two hundred countries in our world, nonetheless,

only twenty three of them legally recognize the same-sex marriage, and in Asia, it’s said that

there is even none of such country. Besides, there are still laws on the books in a majority of

states that allow employers to fire people based solely on their sexual orientation, and still

many places where landlords can evict tenants for being gay, or where they can be barred

from visiting sick partners and sharing in their legacies. In recent June 2013, the Russian

government even passed by a legislation that ban gay propaganda which deeply hurt the

homosexuality in Russia, even led many gay rights campaigners urging a boycott of the

winter games.

Thus it can be seen, that in most countries of our world, countless people, particularly

kids, still face fear and abuse every day for their special sexual orientation. So what can we do

for it? Should we teach people about the importance of equality whether they are heterosexual

or homosexual? Or just limit homosexuality, depriving of their rights? At this moment when

homosexuality become more manifest than before, this problem is badly needed to solve.

People's views on homosexuality vary from person to person. As a matter of fact, a lot of

people seem to think that homosexual is evil and even criminal, they points three aspects to

vindicate their views——the religion, the body heath as well as the reproduction. And some

reasons are just as follows.

First, As far as religion is concerned, many religions especially the Christian, have

expressly agreed terms that homosexuality shouldn’t be admitted. In Bible, the sacred

scripture of Christian, they certainly took up the point: In the same way the men also

abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men

committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their

perversion (Paul, BC1500). It may be true that there were people who believed in God, but it

doesn't mean these religious classics are scientific and right. In fact, many innocent people

were driven to death for some extreme religious creeds such as Galileo, a famous physicist

who died for supporting the Heliocentric. So it is obvious that using religion to prevent the

right of homosexuality is not available.

Second, some of the opponents said homosexuality also threatens out our health. A kind

of terrible disease, AIDS, makes people disgust homosexuality. Indeed, no one can deny the

fact that almost ninety percent of people with AIDS are homosexuality. However, this is not

the reason for us to discriminate against homosexuality, to abuse them, even to diddle them

out of the right for marriage. In reality, the high rate of AIDS in homosexuals is due to their

promiscuity. Nevertheless, if same-sex marriage is not allowed, it must be difficult for

homosexuality to find their partners. And this loneliness may led homosexuality to finding comfort in the strangers. So it’s likely to be us who made them the largest AIDS group. That’s why I couldn’t entirely agree with the opponents.

Last but not least, it is a common belief that homosexuality will thwart human’s reproduction. As is known to all, only heterosexuality could multiply as well as give birth to babies. But I’d like to quote the word of Herbert Marcuse, the spiritual leader of student movement in the early Seventy century. He said “Homosexuality is a great refuse to the value and the order of fertility, and my sex is just for happiness rather than the fertility”. It occurred to people an original idea that life is not only for reproduction. There is nothing more essential than happiness and significance

From my opinion of view, it’s necessary and significant for us to support the right of homosexuality not only based on scientific research, but also on account of the morality.

On the one hand, from scientific research, psychoanalysis guided by Sigmund Freud and behaviorism have separately come up with psychotherapy and behavior therapy for people who has a special sexual orientation to change back for a long time. The former uses a standard psychological analysis method for treatment. The latter one, adopts shock therapy and vomiting therapy to correct the sexual orientation forcibly. But it's a great pity that all these have completely failed. But from what has been mentioned above, we can come to the conclusion that restraining the right of homosexuality’s existence is inadvisable. Obviously, if we want to do something to change people's ideas about homosexuality, it is more essential for us to protect them rather than correct them forcibly.

On the other hand, as for the morality, the American psychological association (APA) national conference in Chicago on August 14, 1997, has passed a resolution at the same time. The resolution, which called "reverse treatment" or "repair treatment", emphasizes the four basic principles for the purpose of change sexual orientation, and points out that “homosexual are not mental illness, the board of psychology opposes any description to classify homosexual and bisexual men as a patient who has mental illness, or to think they are in need of treatment due to their sexual orientation any view.” What is said above tell us a material fact that homosexuality is normal. They should be equally entitled to all the rights of citizen. No matter considering from morality or law, we can’t deprive of their rights. So taking all these factors into consideration, we reasonably come to say that the homosexuality must be innocent. There is no doubt that we should give back the rights which naturally due to them.

4. Conclusion.

It is universally acknowledged that homosexuality is no longer a mental illness now, so we do need to respect them equality. What we should consider is not only the danger they may bring to us but also their feelings in heart. There is a famous word spreading on the blog: Once, we let man decide if the woman could be educated. Let white man decide whether the black man should be respected. Shortly afterwards, we all think this is ridiculous, but now, we also let heterosexuality decide the rights of homosexuality. So it’s the high time that we should spare no effort to protect the rights of homosexuality. Only in this way can we build a harmonious and equal world.
