值日生报告在英语教学中的应用

摘要:

在英语课堂教学不断改进之时,值日生报告已受到越来越多教师的欢迎。值日生报告的形式多种多样,有新闻报道、有听到的或读到的或发生在身边的故事的讲述、有个人的感想或打算、有所学课文的复述等等,其内容充实,与学生的日常生活和实践紧密联系在一起。其效果显著,它不但能激发学生学英语的兴趣,提高学生的英语口语能力、听力能力和写作能力等,而且还能扩大学生的词汇量。

教育部制定的《普通高中英语课程标准(征求意见稿)(一)》中指出“按照基础教育阶段英语课程分级总体目标的要求,高中课程标准对语言技能方面提出了相应的具体内容标准。……语言技能是语言运用能力的重要组成部分。语言技能包括听、说、读、写四个方面的技能以及这四种技能的综合运用能力。听和读是理解的技能,说和写是表达的技能;这四种技能在语言学习和交际中相辅相成、互相促进。学生应通过大量的专项和综合性语言实践,形成综合语言运用能力,为真实语言交际打基础。因此,听、说、读、写既是学习的内容,又是学习的手段。”该课程标准对听、说、读、写在分级目标中指出了不同的要求。如在六级目标对听力的要求中谈到:1….2.能从听力材料\简单演讲或讨论中提取信息和观点;3.能听懂正常语速的故事或记叙文,了解其中主要人物和事件以及他们之间的关系。而值日生报告这一环节包含了听、说、读、写四个方面。因此,我们有必要在课堂教学中开展值日生报告。

什么是值日生报告?值日生报告是在每节课师生互相问候之后开展的1——3分钟左右的演讲活动。它可以是一个学生演讲,也可以是两个学生一组的对话、表演或多个学生的短剧表演。每次轮流进行,所有的人都有机会。它的内容丰富、形式多样。对不同的年级采取不同的要求。如高一的学生可以从手头有的资料中找那些比较简短而有趣的故事、笑话、新闻或与课文同步信息作为演讲材料;到高二和高三时演讲材料可以要求学生自己写(除学习有困难的学生),写读后感,写日常生活、学习情况等等。演讲者在最后可提一、两个关于所讲内容的问题让同学回答或让同学复述所讲内容,以检查同学是否听懂、自己是否讲得清楚。学生讲完后,老师可根据需要或者重复其主要内容,或者重复其关键词、短语、句子,使所有的同学基本上能理解所听的内容。从其内容和形式来看,在课堂教学中开展值日生报告是可行的。值日生报告的形式及内容多种多样,可以是

1). 现在及未来的学习、工作、生活的情况

学生可以谈谈本人现在的学习计划、打算,尤其是在开学初,或在期中考后,更为宜。如在开学初谈自己对各门功课的学习计划。如: Today I’ll tell you something about my study plan. After getting up every morning, I’ll read English for about ten minutes. In the evening, I’ll spend more time in physics, as I didn’t pass it last term. In order to improve my writing ability I’ve placed an order for 21st Century school edition and Zhong Xue Sheng Zuo Wen and I hope I can read some short novels, newspapers, magazines in my spare time…

 最后可以提出这样的问题:A. What’s your opinion?B. How many subjects did I mention in my report? What are they?

 在期中考后,根据学生自己的考试结果,可谈谈他失败或成功的原因。                                                                

2)对人生、友谊、事业的随想

关于什么是友谊,什么是时间、怎样的朋友才是好朋友,学生可以自由发挥,随思随说。下面是一篇有关友谊的值日生报告。

Talking about friendship

What is friendship? How do we make friends with others?

Friends play an important part in our lives. We may have many friends, but we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends. We may have many friends, but we only have a few good friends, even one or two best friends. A best friend is a person who is able to share experiences, joys and sorrows with you. As the saying goes: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Friendship is one of life’s greatest treasures. Get ready to help our friends. Never complain that you have given too much, but receive nothing. Never try to force others to accept our opinion.

Question: Do you agree with what I have said? What’s your opinion? Do you have any best friends?

3)对过去学习、生活的回忆

学生可以谈自己的童年趣事。回想自己小学或初中时的趣事。然后讲述给大家听。

请看下面一则报告。      

When I was in a primary school, I always had lunch at school. As you know, I lived far away from our school. And I often went to school by bus. Sometimes my parents drove me to school, when I got up late. Once when I found it was late to go to school, I didn’t do nothing but cry. At that time my parents were very angry about my not hurrying to wash my face and get ready to go to school. They said “It is no using…and you shall…”(Write the last sentence on the blackboard)

Question: Have you ever had such experience as I did? And then finish the last sentence.

4)讲一个短而有趣的故事,或笑话,或新闻

像故事、笑话、新闻此类报道学生可直接从资料中搬来。讲完后可让一、两个同学复述一遍。下面请看一则来自二十一世纪报·中学生版的新闻:

Will peace ever have a chance in Iraq?

The US and Britain say Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is running out of time to destroy his weapons of mass destruction (大规模杀丧性武器). They want to go to war with Iraq. But France, China, Germany, Russia and other UN Security Council(联合国安理会) members are saying no.

“The road to peace has not been ended,” Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said…. George W. Bush has called for a change of leadership in Iraq. The White House recently declared “the end is coming into sight” as more than 250,00 US and British Troops in the region prepare for an invasion(进攻).

However, Saddam says he has no such weapons and has accused the US of wanting to conquer(征服)Iraq so it can “control the world”.

People around the world are against war in Iraq.

Question: What do you think of the war in Iraq?

5)课文的改写、缩写或相关的文章

 如学了Newspapers(SBIIA Unit 4), 就可以讲讲My Favorite Newspapers。学了Coins(SBIIA Unit 6) 后,学生可以谈谈自己的Hobby,如:My Collecting Stamps/Coins/Cards。例如:在学习了Saving The Earth之后,可以谈谈自己对污染的认识:

Today pollution has become a serious problem to our earth and us. Nowadays, wasted and poisonous things have polluted water, air and earth. It does great harm not only to human beings but also to animals. We can’t have fresh air because many factories have the poisonous smoke sent into the air. Fish die from the polluted water. It is said that strange diseases have appeared in some places because of pollution. I hope scientists can take useful steps to solve the serious problem. At last we can make pollution controlled and air cleaned. Then we can keep the balance of nature.

Question: Whom does pollution do harm to?

值日生报告的效果显著。它不仅仅能激发学生学习英语的兴趣,调动学生上课的积极性,而且能提高学生听、说、读、写的能力。概括起来有以下几个方面:

1) 活跃课堂气氛,充分调动学生听课的积极性

在每一节老师上课之前,请一位同学作值日生报告。这时候,全班同学会全神贯注地去听,欣赏此值日生的报告。因为他会告诉同学一条消息、一个故事或笑话、一段趣味性较强的文章等等。这些值日生报告都是经过同学们的精选,其内容大都是可行的,尤其是那些幽默故事,进过努力地听、判断、思考而终于听懂时,会使学生开心地大笑,从而使学生以愉快的性情进入和完成这一堂课的学习内容。

2)提供开口机会,增强自信心

值日生报告给每个学生都提供开口讲英语的机会。在此其间,由作报告的学生来充当老师,向大家作演讲、提问,供大家回答、讨论。从而使每一个学生体验了当老师的感觉,锻炼了自己的胆量,由起初的含羞、别扭、紧张和不熟练到自然、老练和习以为常。不管学生做得成功或失败,老师在此时应对每一学生做出评价,但是应以鼓励为主,尤其是对表现得不如意的学生,更要鼓励他们。从而增强学生学英语的自信性。

3)加强听力训练,提高听力能力

值日生报告是轮流进行,因此,学生能听到各种口音,而且在每节课中能听到新内容。作报告的同学在最后要提问题,所以其他同学都专心致志地听,以至在回答问题时不会出洋相。这样经过一、两个学期的努力,学生就有希望养成听的好习惯。如每一堂课都能这么做,几年的日积月累,听的能力自然而然会得到提高。

4)拓宽阅读范围,增加词汇量

学生每一次准备的值日生报告其内容不能重复,这促使他们不得不翻阅大量的阅读材料,筛选出不是别人用过的、难度又不大、趣味性较强的文章。然后反复颂读、熟记,做到有声有色,一气呵成。同时规定,在报告中文章的生词出现率每次不超过4~5个;今天作报告的学生要把上两次的生词写在黑板上,并把本报告中的生词也写在黑板上,并且标出其国际音标和意义。这样一来,不但为其他学生的听,扫除了生词障碍,而且也帮他们复习、巩固了所记生词,增加了词汇。

5)加强书面写作,提高写作能力。

值日生报告的内容除了自选短文、对话、笑话,还可以是自己设计对话小品,课文改写,有实用性、交际性的题材如购物、买书、和谈感想、学习计划等等。这样做可以让学生熟悉各种体裁和题材的写作。同时要求学生尽量用上刚学的新句型、新词汇和新语法如定语从句、名词性从句、分词等等。这样做既复习了新的知识又锻炼了写作能力。但是学生自己写的短文最好先交给老师批改,保证无误后,才可作演讲的材料。学生如能持之以恒,他们的写作水平一定能提高。

总之,在课堂教学中开展值日生报告是有必要的、可行的和有效的。它是提高课堂效率的有效途经。
