The Writing Supplement

The Common Application also includes a Writing Supplement with short essay questions that are specific to Duke and offer you the opprtunity to tell us about your personal and intellectual interests. You can submit your answers online with or after the other student portions of the Common Application, no later than the application deadline.

All applicants must respond to the prompt:

Please discuss one of your extracurricular activities that has required a particularly significant time commitment or that has played a meaningful role in your personal development. (Please limit your response to no more than 150 words.)

All applicants to the Pratt School of Engineering must respond to the prompt:

Please discuss why you want to study engineering and why you would like to study at Duke. (Please limit your response to no more than 150 words.)

First-year applicants to the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences may respond to the prompt:

Please discuss why you consider Duke a good match for you. Is there something in particular at Duke that attracts you? (Please limit your response to no more than 150 words.)

Transfer applicants to the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences may respond to the prompt:

If you want to transfer to Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, please discuss why you consider Duke a good match for you. Is there something in particular at Duke that attracts you? (Please limit your response to no more than 150 words.)

All transfer applicants must respond to the prompt:

Consider the books, essays, poems, or journal articles you have read over the last year or two, either for school or leisure. Please discuss the way in which one of them has changed your understanding of the world, other people, or yourself. (Please limit your response to no more than 150 words.)

好消息！杜克大学（Duke University）已经开始审理Regular 申请的学生材料，金东方美国留学部也有学生获得面试邀请。从目前的情况来看，主要以校友面试的方式为主。杜克大学非常重视校友的反馈，申请材料都有Peer Recommendation （伙伴推荐信）的设置，可见很认真了解学生各方面的情况，以录取最适合的学生。

We’d like to remind you that if you wish to be considered for a local Alumni Admissions Committee interview, you must submit your Common Application and Duke Writing Supplement by December 20, Duke’s priority interview deadline. The rest of your application, including the school report, transcript, teacher recommendations, and test scores may be submitted by January 2, 2014.

Alumni interviews are not required for admission, but they do provide a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about Duke and for us to learn more about you as an individual. If

you submit your application by December 20 and an Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee is active in your area, committee members will make every effort to contact you by phone or email to schedule an interview. Interviews are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited by the resources of your local interviewing committee. If you do not have an alumni interview, you may choose to submit an additional letter of recommendation to your application file.
