April 8 Monday Fine

Recently we had a class meeting on the topic of My Chinese Dream. Inspired by President Xi’s Chinese Dream, everyone talked enthusiastically about his

understanding of the Chinese Dream. We all believe that this dream will come true in the future. I also talked about my own dream. I have always wanted to be a doctor. Not only can doctors save people’s lives but also they are doing a respectable job. Doctors can also help people to live a better life with their professional knowledge. To realize my dream, I must try to work hard from now on. I must learn as much as I can so that I can get into a good medical college, where I can prepare myself adequately for the job of a doctor. Only in this way can I accomplish my goal.

style”.______________________

参考范文

Not long ago, CCTV “Focus Talk” carried out many interviews and made some relevant comments on the phenomena---“Crossing roads in the Chinese style”. There is a very common phenomenon around us that people just run the light totally ignoring the running vehicles, which can lead to serious consequences. Last week a traffic accident happened near our school, a rushing car knocked down a student who was running the red light. And because of the car’s sudden stop, several cars behind crashed into each other. Of course this caused a terrible traffic jam.

In my opinion, effective measures should be taken to solve the problem. First, we can make good use of the media, such as TV, newspaper, magazine, to raise people’s awareness of obeying the traffic rules and road safety. Second, government must make severe laws to punish people who dare to break the law and run the red light. 话题三:

Our school advocates that we should build a low-carbon campus in order to

protect the earth.I think it is everyone’s duty to work hard to achieve this goal. Here is

what I think we should do: First of all, we should walk or ride bikes instead of riding

in cars or school buses to reduce the amount of pollution. Secondly, when we eat the

food in the school cafeteria, we should eat up what we buy and not waste the food.

Thirdly, it is important for us to save electricity and water. We should not leave the

lights on in the daytime or leave water running after washing. Instead, we should turn

off lights as soon as we leave the classroom and dormitories.

In a word, if we can make small changes in our way of life, we can make a big

difference to the earth!

Dear fellow students, let’s start right now and spare no effort to do every little

thing we can from now on!

Thank you very much for your concern.Last months several places in Beijing

were blanketed with thick yellow fog.Everything around disappeared from our sight.

Some highways were closed.Traffic jams were commonly seen in the streets. Many

people, especially children and seniors, even found it difficult to breathe. As a

result, local hospitals were crowded with people who had problems with their noses

and lungs.Part of the cause was the dry weather, but the severely damaged

environment contributed a lot to this nightmare. Personally I didn’t get any health

problems in the haze(雾霾) because I stayed mostly indoors. But to make a significant

change we really have to do more to protect our environment. To live a better life we

have to push on with the economy, but it wound be meaning less if we have to achieve

it at the cost of our breathing air.Regards!

Pancake Day is a special day celebrated in many countries around the world. It is always on a Tuesday in February or March and celebrated in English-speaking countries like the UK, Ireland, Australia and Canada. In some countries, like France and the USA, it is called ?Mardi Gras‘ or ?Fat Tuesday‘. In other countries, like Spain, Italy or Brazil, Pancake Day is at the end of Carnival(狂欢节). On this day many people eat pancakes, a thin, flat cake made in a pan.

A tradition on Pancake Day in the UK is pancake racing. People run in a race with a pancake

in a pan. As they run, they have to toss the pancake (throw the pancake in the air and catch it in the pan) several times. In some races people dress up in fancy clothes. The most famous pancake race takes place in a town called Olney, in the middle of England, which has been celebrating pancake races since 1445.

Pancakes are very easy to make. Try our recipe(食谱).

What you need: One cup of flour; One cup of milk; One large egg; Some salt; Some butter or oil; Lemon juice; Some sugar.

Put a very small amount of butter or oil in a pan, and when it is hot, put some mixture in the pan and move the pan to make a thin pancake. After one minute hold the pan carefully and throw or toss the pancake in the air to turn it over. Now cook the pancake on the other side.

When the pancake is ready, squeeze some lemon juice and put some sugar on it and eat it immediately. If you don‘t like lemon juice, eat them with jam, chocolate sauce or ice cream. Mmm, delicious! 56. Among the following countries, which are mentioned in the passage to have celebrated Pancake Day?

Dear Mr. Price,

I have eaten in your restaurant many times and have always been happy with the food and service. This makes what happened last Saturday even more disappointing.

It was my son‘s birthday, so we booked a non-smoking table at your restaurant for 7: 30 p.m.. We arrived on time but were told that our table was not yet ready. At 8: 00 p.m., we were given a table in the smoking section. I asked to move but I was told that there were no other tables. A lot of people were smoking so it was uncomfortable and unhealthy.

Our first waitress, Janet, was very polite and helpful. She gave us free drinks for waiting so long. Our food also came quickly and looked fresh and tasty. When my wife had eaten most of her

meal, she found a dead cockroach (蟑螂) in her vegetables. She was shocked and wanted to leave. At first, the waitress told us it was a piece of garlic. When we told her that garlic does not have legs, she apologized and took the food away.

We asked for the bill, expecting not to pay for my wife‘s meal. Nobody came. After 15 minutes, I asked to see the manager. The headwaiter told us that you were on holiday. I complained (抱怨) again about the horrible cockroach. He told me Janet had finished work. He didn‘t believe my story and gave me a bill for three meals. I argued with him but was forced to pay.

The waitress, Janet, was always friendly, but I would like an apology from your impolite headwaiter and a full refund (退款) for our meal. It cost $ 68. Until then, I will not be eating at your restaurant or recommending it to anyone.

You can contact me at 742-3254 or through e-mail if you want more information.

Thank you for your attention.

Yours sincerely,

David Brown

I must have looked deep in thought, or as deep in thought as an 11 year old can, when my grandmother glanced up from her weeding to ask, "You have something on your mind, don't you?"

"Yes, I was thinking that someday I want to be an Olympic speed skating champion like my hero, Eric Heiden, I want to be a doctor like my parents and I want to help children in Africa."

I immediately knew I had confided(透露秘密) in the right person when a knowing smile broke across her face. "Johann, of course! You can do anything you want to do!" she said simply. And with my grandmother's support, I set out to pursue my passions.

14 years later, I was positioned to take hold of my first dream: becoming an Olympic champion. The Olympics in 1994 were in my home country, Norway. As I entered the Olympic stadium, I wasn't the best athlete, and many had doubts about my ability to perform well. But I had

something special working for me. I had a woman in the first row who believed in me following my passions just as much as I did. For the first time ever, my grandmother was going to see me skate.

It happened. Breaking a world record, I won the gold.

As I stood on the podium(领奖台) that I had dreamed about my entire life, a curious question popped into my head. Why me? Why did I win, given all the other incredible competitors out there? The reason had to be more than a grandmother who shared a belief in her grandson's dream. The question led me to only one answer: because I wanted to make a difference in the world, and with all the media attention on my success, I could.

I immediately knew what that difference had to be: hope in the lives of the children in Africa. Six months earlier, I'd been invited to Eritrea as an ambassador for Olympic Aid.

A. laughed at him B. quite supported him

C. had no confidence in him D. felt quite surprised

66. The author probably realized his first dream at the age of __________.

A. 20 B. 22 C. 25 D. 28

67. What will the author tell us in the following part of the passage?

A. His efforts in helping the African children.

B. His success at other Olympic games.

C. His hard training in preparing for the next Olympics.

D. The reason why he became an ambassador for Olympic Aid.

D

Stop wasting your time thinking of reasons for your failures. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.

The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created: the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You were born rich. You can be a success if only you make the right choice.

You cannot be successful without first developing your self-confidence. Your level of self-confidence is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-confidence are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are always victims. They are leaves tossed (摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.

You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible.

Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify(确定) the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent

upon our level of confidence.

In all areas of your life, whether they are financial, physical, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it. You are on the road to success.

68. People with low self-confidence are compared to leaves because they .

A. don‘t have the power to face their lives B. are ready to change their minds

C. can‘t exercise control over themselves D. are easily affected by windy weather

69. Losers would think that .

A. they fail only because of bad luck B. they don‘t make efforts to succeed

C. success is the result of hard work D. working hard will lead to success

70. It can be inferred from the fifth paragraph that .

A. what we believe in is the result of creative mind B. whether we will succeed depends on our attitudes

C. setting our expectations is vital before taking action D. knowing cause and effect is the key to future success

71. The last paragraph serves as .

A. an introduction to another topic B. a comparison between two views

C. the proof of the author‘s points D. the conclusion of the argument

E I would like to share some tips and recommendations for reading your first foreign language novel. Reading in your target language is one of the best ways to make yourself familiar with a language and to learn idioms and phrases. Here are a few tips and some recommendations for easy English reading.

Read something that you know: You might have read a book in your own language, or watched a film version of a novel. If you already know the plot and characters, it‘s easier to understand what‘s happening and avoid getting completely confused.

You don’t need to know every word: Don‘t get caught in every word you don‘t understand. Looking up every word in the dictionary takes the fun out of reading even the most amazing of books. Read the whole sentence and maybe the next sentence too, and see if you can get the meaning. You don‘t need to know the definition of every word to understand the plot. Read side-by-side novels: If you are reading something new, try to get a ―side-by-side‖, parallel text, version of the novel. More common with e-books, these will print a paragraph of the language followed by a translation. If your understanding isn‘t great, it saves time looking words up in the dictionary.

Don’t be too ambitious: Put down that Shakespearean play! Even some British students struggle with the language written in some of the ―classics‖, so even though you will seem so clever reading ―Hamlet‖ or ―Great Expectations‖ on the bus, they‘ll soon have you running for the hills and never wanting to read another English novel again. Start with more modern books as the language will be easier to understand. Don‘t be afraid to try out children‘s books to just help you get started.

Here are some recommendations for easy but interesting reads. I‘ve read all of these novels and love them all, I‘ve tried to include something for everybody but I‘d recommend you give them all a try!

72. What may be stated after the last paragraph?

A. Lists of the recommended books. B. Tips on easy English reading.

C. Names of famous Britain novelists. D. Ways to infer meanings of words. 73. Who is the passage intended for?

A. Tourists going abroad. B. Senior interpreters. C. Foreign language beginners. D. College language teachers.

74. Which of the following tip is NOT mentioned in the passage?

A. Find a book whose plot you are familiar with.

B. Choose something easy as the first foreign language novel.

C. A paragraph followed by a translation is helpful for you to understand.

D. Looking up every new word is a must while reading a foreign language novel. 75. Which is the main idea of the passage? A. Benefits of reading easy English novels. B. Tips on your first easy English reading.

C. Encouragements for easy English reading.

D. Recommendations for easy but interesting novels.

If you have ever been rock climbing, you will know that it is not a very easy sport. Indoor and outdoor rock climbing are both extremely demanding and require practice to get good at.

There are three basic types of rock climbing. Top roping is the most common type and the climber needs to climb with a partner. The second type, which is very similar to top roping, is called lead climbing. In both of the types, the climber can sit off the wall and rest on the rope. The third type is called bouldering. Bouldering is a type of free climbing without any ropes. This is the most demanding of all climbing types. The climber must be able to complete the climbing without taking a rest on the rope.

To climb efficiently and successfully, a person needs to have a wonderful technique. One of the major rules of rock climbing is to always have three points touching the wall, whether it is both feet and one hand, or one foot and both hands, as it is much easier to have your weight rest on three points than on two. Another important idea to grasp is that your arms in most cases will do the climbing; they only hold you into the wall so that your legs are actually pushing you upward. Also, the closer you are to the wall, the easier it is to climb.

Rock climbing may sound a bit too extreme for the everyday person, but it is really an amazing workout. For anyone who wants to get into shape, rock climbing is a fun and effective way to exercise muscles. The great thing about rock climbing is that it is mentally challenging as well. You are constantly analyzing the way your body moves and how to do certain moves on the wall.

about one month to accompany them. What a shocking and depressing result it is! On seeing the picture, the memory of my growth with my parents‘ care and love just crowds into my mind.

My parents might work hard, but they are always there for me. Whenever I get into trouble and desperately need a hand, they come over first to support me and encourage me. I grow up with their constant care and love. They share my happiness and sorrow, for which they ask for nothing in return.

Therefore, I will try my best to show my gratitude to my parents and make them live a great life without worrying about me and my life.
