Gone with the wind

Having read the novel Gone with the wind written by America writer Margaret Mitchell, I was deeply shocked .The novel ,which Margaret Mitchell spent about ten years on, not only created a myth, but also show her own personal opinion to the world. The novel’s background is based on the civil war, which happened in the United States. According to the changes of the civil war stars the circumstances, so it has divided the macro history into micro history of personal experience. We can realize that the thinking of Margaret through characters changes of people.

GONE WIITH THE WIND is a famous story, which main character is Scarlett who is the oldest daughter of a reach man. Scarlett grew in a soft and sweet environment .Her childhood is full of happiness and freedom, but at the age of sixteen, the world of her life began to change. At the bottom of her heart, she loved Ashley very much! Then news came that Ashley would be married with Melanie, she felt surprised and even couldn’t accept the fact. With the psychology of revenging Ashley, Scarlett married to Melanie’s brother before the day Ashley wedding. With the development of the war, many young man died，including Scarlett’s husband. Scarlett can’t stand the boring life as a widow. At the same time Ashley also joined the army, so his wife Melanie invited Scarlett to the home of Charles’s aunt. Without more consideration, Scarlett left for Atlanta with her little son. For the change of environment, Scarlett felt a little better. Much to her happiness, Charles left a large amount of heritage, for the more and more relationship between the north and south, women in Atlanta were mobilized to support the war. One time the hospital holds a party to collect contributions. In the party, Scarlett met a strange person, whose name was Rhett. And Scarlett still remembered that he was just the person who had known her love to Ashley. Rhett invited Scarlett to have a dancing though she was criticized by all the women around her, she still accepted the invitation. After the case, Scarlett became more and more open to things around her. The war was terrible, but it also gives Scarlett a chance to fight with the old custom. Ashley came back from the battlefield for one week. Scarlett made up her mind to tell Ashley her true feeling, but rejected by Ashley 1

once again. Eventually, Scarlett married with Rhett. One years later ，they had a lovely daughter called Bonnie who is beautiful like the young Scarlett. Rhett loves Bonnie very much so that he can do everything for her including change himself it gets along with the people who hate him before. Scarlett is very envy the little Bonnie. But Scarlett still loves Ashley, not Rhett. After Bonnie died, Rhett felt the world began to over. And then he decided to leave. At the same day, Ashley’s wife was dying, too. Talking to Ashley, she eventually found that the man who she really love is Rhett, not Ashley. Ashley is not to be worth love at all.

When I read out the book ，I heart was full of sorrow, Scarlett was a plain girl, but what she did was not plain. She didn’t stay silence in the war, her own world was changed by herself. Scarlett has the braveness to change the old rule. What she finally has is the consequence of her own effort. Another character that I love most is Rhett. He is a man who loves Scarlett very much, no matter what difficulties Scarlett faced, Rhett will always company her and take measures of it. And he always make Scarlett happy because he is a man who known of her clearly. After the Scarlett’s first husband died, he was invited her to dance that made her never upset. When the second husband died, he persuaded her don’t sorrow and went down on his knees to ask Scarlett marry him. What’s more, what I also love character is Melanie, she is so kind-hearted and always stand in the side of others, in my heart, she is the embodiment of kindness.

I’m so deeply shocked by the indomitable spirit of Scarlett facing difficulties. But to attain her ending by hook, I felt offensive, especially the thing what she had done to Melanie. What’s more, I’m so angry with her infatuation attitude to Ashley and her ignorance attitude to Rhett. While the more care Rhett gave to Scarlett, the more joy I got. Nevertheless, at last, Rhett felt disappointment and left Scarlett. In my opinion, everyone has her own desire. Whether the desire is usual or unusual, we need to search for our own happiness. The desire will be a driving force for us. We will pursue our happiness, although there might be some difficulties and disputes, we should not give up our desire. As Scarlett said that， “tomorrow is another day!”

Gone With the Wind book review

I really like Scarlett, To some people, she may be a awful, terrible ,mean and selfish woman. But i like her. As i see it, she stands for a spirit. I admire her character. She looks life in her eyes and do what she has to do. She doesn’t give a damn about anyone but herself. And she does what she has to do in spite of what people will say. I think it is good to be yourself, not others.

I admire her responsibility. After going back to Tara, she works very hard like a slave day and night in order to feed her family, even though she ia also very fear, hungry and tired. She regards Tara as her blood. To build Tara up again, she tries her best to run a factory, which i think is very hard on a woman.

I admire her purposefulness and bravery. Facing the difficult conditions, many people would be confused or do not know what to do just like a coward. However, Scarlett would regain hope and be calm and reasonable to consider what she could do to overcome the hardship. So, after Tara is destroyed by the war, Ashley loses hope and ambitions to life and her father becomes mad. But only Scarlett tries her best to save Tara, to save her family.

I admire her determination deeply. She is so willing to do whatever it takes to keep Tara and her family alive and well.

I love the sentence” Tomorrow is another day”. As i see it, it stands for a

kind of spirit, an attitude towards life. In our life, there must be many difficulties, then what should we do? Like a coward? No! We should not care about the so-called hardship instead of working hard as usual until we overcome it. We should be strong and brave. Everyday we should be hopeful and positive. Because everyday is a new start. Tomorrow is another day.
