The Pride and Prejudice

The Pride and Prejudice is written by George Austen. The story is mainly about 4 marriages in the UK in 18th.The most important part of cause is the love and hate between the actress Elizabeth Banat and the actor William Darcy. Elizabeth is a middle class woman who is beautiful, intelligent, strong and also courageous in pursuing true love. The clue of the story is mainly about Elizabeth’s attitude to Mr. Darcy. At the beginning is hate then to respect and at last tune to love. It has also added in several happy or unhappy marriages around her, which reveals the author's ideal of love and hope for the women who live in that era.

The heroine, Elizabeth, first feels Darcy is incurring dislike because of his pride and then she takes prejudice on him. The hero, Darcy, is an unpopularity arrogant man. He doesn't care about the cold interpersonal relationship around him. To him, he thinks his pride is a matter of cause, but the prejudice is ruthless. All of this makes the unavoidable conflict between the heroine and the hero. The pride and prejudice has made it an unhappy beginning with the misunderstanding between the two people, and cause the dispute. But after the clarification of all the events, both of them had grew a little affection to each other gradually. At the beginning, they had both driven by their emotions. Darcy represents the" pride" and Elizabeth represents the "prejudice". Then a lot of unfavorable rumors made Elizabeth become more disgusted with Darcy. But when Darcy is rejected by Elizabeth about asked her to marry him, he doesn’t change his arrogant disposition to please Elizabeth. Elizabeth also showed a true representation, each of them did not hide the true self but show the real side. At the beginning, Elizabeth has been lived in her prejudice, taking the rumor about Darcy without thinking about the rights and wrongs. After Darcy's interpretation, Elizabeth takes the right judgment and finally found her happiness. Pride and prejudice are the common weaknesses and problems to us. All of us are easy to be driven by our subjective impression and make incorrect annotations for others, then causing the misunderstanding between each other. A person’s first impression can affect a lot of things, but it does not mean it will never change. Everything is changing for the understanding little by little in order to have a more objective point, just as Elizabeth’s view on Darcy in the story is changing because of the understanding.

In the novel, Austen expresses the young girl’s different attitude to marriage through Bennet’s different handling method in his five daughters’ marriages. It reflects the author’s marriage attitude people who marriage for property or status is wrong and have no consideration of these factors is also stupid. Therefore, she is not only against those people who marriage for money, but also opposes those people who treat marriage as a child's play. She stressed the importance of ideal marriage, and put the feelings of both men and women as the cornerstone of an ideal marriage.

In the story, heroine Elizabeth was born in a small landowner’s family, loved by the rich Darcy. Darcy regardless of family status and wealth gap, asked her to marry him, but was rejected. The misunderstanding and prejudice is the reason why Elizabeth rejects Darcy, but the main thing is

that she hates his arrogance. The expression of arrogance from Darcy is actually a reflection of gap in status. They can not have a common thoughts and feelings as long as the existence of such pride and it can not have an ideal marriage. Then Elizabeth personally observed how Darcy bear himself and saw he change his arrogant attitude. After all this things happened, it eliminates the misunderstanding and prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy. The different attitudes toward Elizabeth to Darcy’s proposals in fact reflect the female's pursuance for personality independent and peace right. This is Elizabeth, the figures of the progressive image. From the novel, Elizabeth is bright, brave, far-sighted, self-important and good at thinking. It was very rare and commendable at that time for a girl. It is in this quality that makes she knows her own mind clearly in love, and prompted a happy family between her and Darcy.

In Pride and Prejudice, Austen also wrote several marriages of Elizabeth's sister and girlfriend, which are foil. It just used to compare with the ideal marriage of the heroine. Such as Charlotte and Collins, though after they married, they had a comfortable life, between them does not have love. This kind of marriage in fact is a kind of social tragedy which covered by the gorgeous jacket.

Although the theme of Austen’s novels is narrow and the story is quite wateriness, but she was good at creating vivid characters through trivial things in daily life. No matter there is the kind of the positive character like Elizabeth and Darcy or the kind of the ironic object like Collins, she can also describe them in a real and moving way. At the same time, the language of Austen is after temper, she stresses the art of the dialogue, humor, irony, often witty humorous language to the character traits or personalities. This innovation makes her art works with its own characteristics.

Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote Pride and Prejudice, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

读后感 The feeling of Pride And Prejudice

In the winter holiday,I finished reading the novel Pride and prejudice, first published in 1813, which is the masterpiece of Jane Austen.I have heard it severval years before,but I never read it in detail.After reading it through,I must confess that it gave me such a strong impression that I was lost in it.

Maybe many people regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an picture of the society at that time. The author gave the people in her works vivid characters.

The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, morality, education and marriage in the society of early 19th century England. Elizabeth is the second eldest of five daughters of a country gentleman landed in the town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, not far from London.

The main male protagonist of the novel is Mr Darcy,who is at the age twenty-eight years old and not married. Darcy is the wealthy owner of the famous family estate of Pemberley in Derbyshire,handsome, tall, and intelligent.However,his indifferent and proud attitude to strangers makes a poor impression on other,including Elizabeth.But he is valued by those who know him well.

The other characters have their own personalities,too. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man falling in love with Jane, Elizabeth’s elder sister. The five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books,actually she is a pedant. Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows strange things, handsome man, and is somehow very silly.As a result,she elopes with George Wickham,a wicked man who is paid to marry her.

This book perfectly reflecte the relation between money and marriage at that time. In our opinions,marrigae shoulde be on the basis of love. However,the marriage in this book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs.This point just reflects on Mrs Bennet who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.There are two pionts of the author in the book:First, it is wrong to get married for the property, money and

position.Second, get married and does not consider that above-mentioned factors are unwise too . She emphasizes the importance of the ideal marriage , and regard men and women’s emotion as the foundation stone which concludes the ideal marriage . Elizabeth refuse Darcy’s propose not only because of her misunderstanding and prejudice to him but also her disliking him.I think the author encourage us not to accept the things we don’t like.

In my opinion, the title of the book dosen’t only refer to one of the main characters. Both Elizabeth and Darcy display pride and prejudice.Several misunderstandings and prejudice make the book more true.Fortunately,when the misunderstanding and prejudice went away,they get happiness at last.

“Don’t think of me as an elegant female,but as a thinking creature speaking the truth from her heart.”This is said by Elizabeth when she refuse Mr Collins’s,her cousin, propose.What a indenpendent women she is.I admire her so much.

Pride and Prejudice is the most popular novel written by Jane Austen. It talks about trivial matters of love, marriage and family life between country squires and fair ladies in Britain in the 18th century. The plot is very simple. That is how the young ladies choose their husbands.

I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

Love is really a wonderful thing.On the way of seeking love,as long as we stick to our principle and don’t be afraid of misunderstanding, I believe one day happiness will come true.
