In my opinion,there are two reasons.

On one hand, Anselm Kiefer,to be an artist,his works are often obscure and rich in poetic theme, implies a full recourse means pain and sense of history.His works often with the Bible、Norse mythology、Wagner's music and the irony of the Nazi theme. He tried to face the horrors of the Nazi era and the German history, culture and mythology, and hope for the German idealism heal,

to help its revival. On the other hand, Anselm Kiefer's works make extensive use of oil、steel、lead、ash、emulsions、stones、photos、woodcut、straw、asphalt and other integrated materials to paint.
