Good afternoon. It is a great honor for me to be here in Shanghai, and to have this opportunity to speak with all of you. I'd like to thank Fudan University's President Yang for his hospitality and his gracious welcome. I'd also like to thank our outstanding Ambassador, Jon Huntsman, who exemplifies the deep ties and respect between our nations. I don't know what he said, but I hope it was good.

正确的选择

“对于三十岁以后的人来说，十年八年不过是指缝间的事。 而对于年轻人而言，三年五年就可以是一生一世??” 这句话出自张爱玲的经典小说《半生缘》，书里开头是沈世均的内心独白“他和曼桢认识，已经是多年前的事了。算起来倒已经有十四年了——真吓人一跳！马上使他连带地觉得自己老了许多。日子过得真快，尤其对于中年以后的人，十年八年都好像是指顾间的事。可是对于年轻人，三年五载就可以是一生一世。他和曼桢从认识到分手，不过几年的工夫，这几年里面却经过这么许多事情，仿佛把生老病死一切的哀乐都经历到了。”今天在这里援引这句话却不是想探讨关于爱情的话题，而是想说说关于年轻时的选择。

选择是人一生永恒的课题，我们无时无刻不在经历着各种的选择，小到衣食住行鸡毛蒜皮，大至事业婚姻未来规划，尤其是对于二三十岁的年轻人来说，每一个大的选择都是对于后半生的奠基，甚至某种程度上来说，是一场以未来做注的一场赌局，想来不啻于世间第一的豪赌了。一旦做下了选择，便如美国诗人罗伯特·弗罗斯特(ROBERT FROST)在他的诗《未选择的路》（The Road Not Taken）中写到的：

啊，留下一条路等改日再见！

I'm sorry but I don't want to be an Emperor - that's not my business - I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that.

We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another.

In this world there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful.

文明幸福，梦想起航

迎着猎猎红旗，沐浴着改革开放的春风，在珠海特区政府的号召下，我们怀揣理想，为梦想起航，为“二次创业”贡献力量。

大学生是一个有着激昂梦想以及饱满精神状态的一个群体，我们初涉世事，却激情飞扬，从不因荆棘满布而放缓逐梦的脚步。我们也是幸福的一代，改革开放，经济腾飞，给了我们坚强的后盾，带给了我们无数的机遇。

只是，如何把握住这机遇，如何在这经济腾飞的年代里实现我们的人生价值、绽放我们的青春梦想、在创建文明城市的浩荡步伐里出谋划策呢？

首先，我们要努力学好专业知识，为实现梦想、为特区的进一步繁荣做好充分的伏笔；在学好专业知识的同时，也要投身社会实践中，在实践中寻找差距，在实践中认识自己，在实践中提升自己，从而为自己的梦想奠基；再者，要心系社会，心怀感恩，在特区政府为我们提供如此多的便利之后，我们必当学以致用，感恩社会，感恩祖国。

即便我们不能篇撰社会，但至少我们可以像小草那般，装饰着珠海这个美丽的海滨城市，为珠海的可持续发展描绘起一幅腾飞的七彩画卷。

因为有了梦想，所以我们的青春才能如此精彩！因为有了梦想，我们的生活才如此幸福！因为有了梦想，我们的人生才如此绚丽！文明幸福，梦想起航，为了我们的梦想，加油吧！

Just for Today

Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes.

Well, I just have a person who is as important for me as the proud rose is for the little prince. We grew up together and we almost know everything about each other. She’s not my sister but much more than that. I used to be bad-tempered and cursed everyone in the world including myself, but she was the only one who was different. She told me the meaning of patience, modesty and even love. And I felt like reborn. That was the first time that I came to get the value of my life.

Yang Lan: The generation that's remaking China

The night before I was heading for Scotland, I was invited to host the final of "China's Got Talent" show in Shanghai with the 80,000 live audience in the stadium. Guess who was the performing guest?Susan Boyle. And I told her, "I'm going to Scotland the next day." She sang beautifully, and she even managed to say a few words in Chinese. [Chinese]So it's not like "hello" or "thank you," that ordinary stuff. It means "green onion for free." Why did she say that? Because it was a line from our Chinese parallel Susan Boyle -- a 50-some year-old woman, a vegetable vendor in Shanghai, who loves singing Western opera, but she didn't understand any English or French or Italian, so she managed to fill in the lyrics with vegetable names in Chinese. (Laughter) And the last sentence of Nessun Dorma that she was singing in the stadium was "green onion for free." So
