Boy as [though] he is, he likes to play with girls.=Though [Although] he is a boy, he likes to play with girls.

Strong man as [though] he is, General Botha has been severely put to the test during the past few weeks.= Though [Although] he is a strong man, General Botha has been severely put to the test during the past few weeks.

He was unable to make much progress, hard as he tried.

Much as I admire him as a writer,I do not like him as a man.

Much as I like you, I couldn’t live with you.

Late as [though] it was, we still went on working.

正:Though [Although] it was late, we still went on working.

误:Late although it was, we still went on working.

误:As it was late, we still went on working.

Tired as he was, he sat up late studying at night.

Tired as he was, he went to bed early.

Young as he was, he was equal to the task. (表让步) Young as he was, he was not equal to the task.

Cold as it was, we went out.=As cold as it was, we went out.

Successful as he is, he is not proud.=As successful as he is, he is not proud.

第二篇:as much as的用法

as much as的用法

In fact it cost me as much as 100 dollars.

We walked as much as 50 miles that day.

She trained hard for the race, sometimes running as much as 60 miles a week.

—Is it hot up there?

—Of course, as much as 45 degrees.

The speed can vary by as much as 15 percent.

用 as many as。

I read as much as 100 articles today. I read as many as 100 articles.

I ate as much as I could.

I’ll spend as much as necessary.

Give me as much as you gave Jane.

I haven’t got as much money as I thought.

I’m sorry I haven’t done as much as I should.

Some of the doctors are paid almost twice as much as the nurses.

We can take as much as our buyer can supply.

If you charge as much as that, you’ll scare customers off.

1. 译为“尽量”“尽最大努力(可能)”,主要用于 as...as possible [one can]。如: You ought to rest as much as possible.

I have helped you as much as I can. Now it is up to you.

I won’t have a pudding—it was as much as I could do to finish the very large first course.

He doesn’t think of you as much as he ought to. We’re in the dark just as much as you are.

I don’t pretend to know as much as he does about it.

I like cats as much as dogs. (此句可视为 I like cats as much as I like dogs 之省略)

I haven’t as much responsibility as before.

That is as much as saying I am a liar.

He as much as admitted that it was his fault.

You said “all right”, which was as much as to say that you were satisfied.

注:as much as to say [saying] 可视为习语,意为“等于说”。

It is as much your responsibility as mine.

He retorted that it was my fault as much as his.

I expect to weep as much as (to) laugh.

His latest play is not as much a farce as a burlesque tragedy.

Do you dine out as much as you did in Paris? Grandma’s getting on a bit and doesn’t go out as much as she used to.

I gave him as much as he could eat.

As much as he earned was given to his girlfriend.

John, as much as his brothers, was responsible for the loss.
