*smarty是形容词smart（聪明）加上y，当成名词使用，是相当于口语的用法。而smart ass就有讽刺的意思了，聪明的屁股到底聪不聪明呢？再怎么聪明也好不到哪儿去吧！

I always stutter on my words when I get nervous.

当我感到紧张时，我说话总是结巴。

Her boyfriend started stuttering when she asked him about the affair. 当她问起外遇的事情时，她的男朋友开始结巴起来。

其中“bills”：账单

Women really care if their man can pay the bills and take care of their lives. 女人很在意他们的男人是否会帮他们付账单，并且照顾他们的生活。

*Bill 是人名，中文翻成比尔，小写就成了账单。因为账单永远是一张接一张来，所以bill经常是复数，比如说credit card bills（信用卡账单）、phone bills（电话账单）、gas bills（煤气费）等等。

You can tell by the way she is talking to him that she has the hots for him. 从她和他说话的样子，你可以看出她很“哈”他。

*hot本来是形容词，最常用来表示很熟，引申成形容女孩很辣。这里是把它当成名词使用，是一种非正式的说法，hots 变成仰慕、喜欢，就是很“哈”别人的意思。Hots和中文的“哈”发音超像，这样记就对了！

6. crush 压碎、心动

He crushed my heart when he told me he had fell in love with another girl. 当他告诉我他爱上另一个女孩时，我的心碎了。

I had a crush on her the very first time I laid my eyes on her.

第一次看见她，我就对她怦然心动。

*crush是压碎、碾碎的意思，通常作动词用。不过英文的俚语形容对一个人初见时就心动也用crush，这里就当名词用。特别用来表示初见面就很喜欢的意思。

7. jock 运动员、喜欢

He was the biggest jock in high school since he played all kinds of sports. 从他开始玩各种运动起，他就是高中里最重要的运动员。

Dude, this girl is jocking me,she keeps on looking at me from across the room. 同学，那个女孩很喜欢我，她一直在房间另一头看着我。

*jock 是赛马的骑师，也泛指运动员。非正式的表示喜欢、迷恋的样子，一定要把jock当动词使用，不能说She has jocks for me,一定要说She is jocking me.当然，这不能用在正式的文章里！

*coyote 是土狼的意思，通常我们说东西或人很丑，可以直接说ugly，但是要加强那种丑的程度无以伦比，就把很丑的动物——土狼放在ugly 前面，来形容人或物超级够丑。

13.back out 退出、拉出

Hey!Back out your car out of the garage.

嗨！把你的车开出仓库。

I backed out of the plan because I didn’t want to go steal money with them. 我要退出这个计划，因为我不想和他们一起偷钱。

4. wannabe=a person who wants to be something he isn’t想成为的人（事实上不是）、我还真像个，wannabe想做、想成为

Eminem was labeled as a black wannabe when he first came our with a hop album.

出一张嘻哈风专辑时，阿姆被认为想当黑人歌手（的白人）。

*wannabe 是一个非常口语的词，它事实上是want to be（相成为）三个字简略而成的一个名词，表示事实上不是、也不可能达到某种状态，却又很想成为那个样子的人。在上面的例句当中，阿姆明明是个白人出了黑人的风格的嘻哈专辑，被认为是想模仿。成为黑人的歌手，我们可以说他是black wannabe，同理可证，麦克杰克逊明明是黑人，拼命把自己染白，希望别人以为他是白人，我们可以说他是white wannabe。

其中“bomb”=something that explodes/really cool 炸弹，很酷、炫的事物 There is a bomb in the building,everybody get out of here!!

*Show 是指表演节目，doing a show 是指表演的意思。平常我们说一个人很爱现、爱炫耀，就用show off 这个动词，而showboat 是有表演节目的船，引申成为名词，就是指爱卖弄的人。

*“Move you butt!”字面上意思是“劝你的屁股！”，通常需要具体动作的事情，如“Take my coat upstairs.Move your Butt!”（到楼上帮我拿外套，快！）我们会用这个句子，表示要人家立刻去做的意思。

*“slow”、“retarded”、“dummy”、“stupid”的意思，都可以用来骂人家笨。“slow”算是较委婉的用法，美国的老师很直接说学生“stupid”，为了顾及学生尊严多说“He is slow.”（他反应慢。）如，“silly”，是指人家举止傻傻怪怪的，不一定的意思，只是不合常理。比如那个警察伯伯大概就在心里骂了我们100句“They are silly!”

Lesson 6. 牵缠纠葛的爱

3. hook up = to get to know each other/to get together/to help out/lend (depends on the sit-uation)

hook加上up，可以延伸出多种不同的用法，有认识彼此、聚在一起、解救他人等不同意思，一起来看看下面的例句解说：

Yo Wilber, can you hook me up with that girl over there?

嘿，玮柏，你可以介绍那个女孩给我认识吗？

*通常这是在某些场合中，希望人家介绍他认识的人给你，你也可以用introduce（介绍）这个字，不过hook up 是更为口语的用法。

You wanna hook up?

你要认识认识吗？

*这里hook up，又变成了get together（聚在一起）的意思，问人家要不要hook up，就是朋友间询问要不要见个面的意思。

Yo man,can you hook me up with NT1000?

嘿，小子，你可以借我1000元吗？

*这里的用法是借钱，除了借钱可以用这个句子，也可以用作朋友间互相帮助比如说Can you hook me?就是“你可以帮个忙吗？”的意思。

My phone line isn’t hooked up yet, so I can’t make any phone calls right now. 我的电话线还不通，所以我现在不能打任何电话。

*kick your ass 是指踢你的屁股，就是要痛扁你的意思，但是kick ass 却是完全相反，表示酷毙、超赞的意思。比如说“Wilber’s songs really kicks ass.”（玮柏的歌超赞！）虽然它的用法像个形容词，但事实上这是很街头的说法，不必特别讲究文法。但是在正式书信，或是跟长辈说话可不要随便用它，如果你今天随随便便跟老师说：“你今天教得很傻喔！”是不是讨打？

*同样是back up ，还有向后退的意思。比如说

“Yo! Back up a little. A car is coming!”（嘿！后退一点，一辆车开过来了！）这里Yo 是招呼语，没什么特别的意思，只是引起别人注意的语气词。

*Pissed off 表示对某事生气、愤怒，但是piss 最常用的意思是表示尿尿，比如说“I need to take a piss, where is the bathroom?”我想上个厕所，厕所在哪里？

13. butt kick 踢你屁股

I’m going to give you some butt kicking if you don’t shup up.

再不闭嘴，踢你屁股！

*butt kick 是踢屁股的意思，跟kick your ass 意思雷同，不过注意用法，这里要用give (给)作动词，就是给你一顿好打的意思。

14. gang 群众、帮派

He was there along with a gang of 5 people.

他和5个人聚在一起。

He was a gang member ever since he was 16.

*gang 是一群人、帮派的意思，衍生出来gangster，就变成帮派分子。平常我们常讲“聚众滋事”，一群人没事混在一起，不就像帮派分子吗？所以常常听到人家骂人“You gangster!”（你这流氓！）就是这个字。

15. gang bang 帮派斗殴
