Nowadays, many young people on living their own happy and content lives, ignoring what happens to the society and people’s livelihood. Some people think it’s ok for ordinary people, while others don’t agree.

In my opinion, we should be aware of the importance of social responsibility. What happens to the society and people’s livelihood actually affects our lives a lot. For example, when a serious earthquakes happens in an area, people living in this area are all affected. They need a lot of help from the government and other people. If we turn a blind eye to these people’s livelihood, thinking that has nothing to do with our happy lives, these stricken people will have to flee their hometown and go to other cities, and eventually cause instability in our country and affect everyone’s life.

Since we social beings, what happens in our society will certainly affect our lives. Therefore, we should take our social responsibilities.

On Graduation Thesis

Every college and university requires their graduates to write graduation thesis. If a student’s thesis cannot be approved by his tutor, he cannot get his degree. Many people think it’s reasonable for the colleges and universities to do so, but others don’t agree.

As far as I am concerned, it’s very advisable for the colleges and universities to require their graduates to write graduation thesis. First, a student’s graduation thesis is a proof that shows this student has mastered his major knowledge and deserves his degree. If the tutor does not approve the thesis, it can only mean that the student who writes this thesis does not work hard and should not be given the degree. Second, graduation thesis may provide wonderful ideas and thus contribute to the progress in the society.

Therefore, I think it necessary for the colleges and universities to require their graduates to write graduation thesis.

On Foreigners’ Learning Chinese

In recent years, more and more foreigners begin to learn Chinese. Many colleges and universities in the U.K. require their students to study Chinese as a required course.

There are several reasons that cause this phenomenon. First, many countries encourage their to learn Chinese. As the fastest growing market in the world, China is a welcomed economic partner to other countries. These countries encourage their people to learn Chinese so that they can cooperate well with China in many aspects. Second, many foreigners learn Chinese voluntarily in order to know more about China. To these people, China is such an oriental myth that they can’t help researching into. In order to know more about China, They study Chinese and come to live in China. Some of them even decide to stay in China all their lives.

In my opinion, foreigners learning Chinese shows that our country is becoming stronger and stronger, more and more flourishing. We would be happy about that.

The Days We Should Keep in Mind

Many young people never forget their birthday. They held little parties and receive gifts to celebrate their birthday every year. When they are asked about their parents’ birthday, most of them cannot answer right.

There are several reasons which cause this phenomenon. On the one hand, parents focus very much on their children, but too little on themselves. Many parents celebrate their children’s birthday when their kids are still very young, maybe only 3 or 4 years old. But parents seldom celebrate their own birthday, and maybe they don’t mention it at all. That’s why young people cannot remember parents’ birthday. On the other hand, young people focus very much on themselves, but too little on themselves. Sometimes they just think that their parents are not interested in celebrating birthday.

Is young people’s birthday more important than their parents’? I don’t think so. The days we should keep in mind are not our own birthday, but our parents’.

Explain or Keep Silent

In modern society, especially in entertainment industry, lots of widely-spread information is actually rumors. When facing rumors, many people are very annoyed and they defend themselves by explaining. They think it is necessary to clarify to the public so the rumors can be stopped. On the contrary, some are patient and they overcome rumors by keeping silent.

In my view, keeping silent is a smarter solution. First, even if you explain clearly, others will think you are just covering things up. If you cannot present any convincing evidence, people will believe more in the rumors. Second, when you keep silent, you are not admitting the rumors and you are in fact telling people that it is not related to you. As time goes on, facts will eventually scotch（扑灭） these rumors. Therefore, to dispel(消除) rumors, it is better to keep silent. Therefore, I believe that silence speaks louder than words.
