My favorite course (The course I like best of the Long-distance Education) is English. Maybe you’ll feel surprised because English is often considered to be the most difficult course. The reasons I like it are as follows: First of all, my job is doing international trade and requires a higher level of spoken and written English. Learning English well, therefore, is very useful. Secondly I love Hollywood movies and English songs. Learning English helps me enjoy the movies and music better. The last reason I like it is that English is most widely used in the world. I love travelling and I notice that people in many places can speak English, which makes it convenient for me in other countries.

My Favorite course is English. I was deeply interested when I began to learn it in my middle school.

There are a few reasons why I like English. In the first place, the language sounds so beautiful to me. It’s completely different from Chinese in pronunciation, but rhythm of the language is as great as Chinese. Besides, English is a language widely used in world. It is estimated that more than 500 million people use English and it has almost become the official language in many areas, for example, business.

Of course, learning English well alone is not enough for me. I still need to make efforts in learning other courses. Language, as I believe, is a tool, which will make a big difference if combined with other professional capabilities.

I’ve been a student of online education for some time and I find my favorite online course is computer.

First, computer knowledge is very important. As an online course learner, I can hardly finish my study without computer knowledge. Second, I think things I learn from this course are very useful in my daily life, for example, word and excel processors are of great help for my work; sometimes I use computer to do painting with my son; it’s a lot of fun. Last but not the least, I learned how to search information quickly from the internet. This is really convenient. So, you can see why I love this course.

The course I hate most of the long-distance education is English because I have spend much time and effort in English every day, only to find little improvement in my English studies. I failed several times on the English tests and I lose heart in it.

As far as I’m concerned, English is very difficult to learn. I find it hard to remember English words. Secondly English grammar is quite different from Chinese grammar. The most important reason is that I have little chance to practice English in my daily life.

As adult students of distance learning, self-study becomes very important. From my point of view, there are pieces of tips of self-study.

First, make a study plan in the beginning of a new semester. As the saying goers, a good beginning is half done. If you have a plan and can follow it, you’re more likely to complete the

study. Second, preview every unit before the lesson. Third, try to finish the homework after class. Fourth, go over what you have learnt in class regularly at home. Without review, you will absolutely forget what you’ve learnt as quickly as possible.

So reviewing is helpful in understanding and memorizing what you’ve learnt.

Difficulties in Studying English 英语学习的困难

Learning English is interesting but it is also difficult. From my own experience, I think there are several difficulties in learning English. First of all, it’s hard to build up vocabulary. English words are quite different from Chinese. I find it takes quite a long time to remember the words. But if you don’t use them, you’ll soon forget. Secondly English grammar is another difficult part. I’m often confused by English tense because it’s such a different system from Chinese. English idioms and expressions is the third difficulty I have met in my study. Sometimes you know every word in the expression, but you don’t the exact meaning of it, because it is used in specific situation and has specific meaning. That’s why you can tell the meaning from the words.

The difficulties in my English studies seem to be the fact that I would be barely able to observe the progress I have made. That is to say, I have to spend much time in English every day, only to find little improvement in my English studies. Everyday practice cannot guarantee great progress in the short term, but it is certain to bring about improvement in the end. So I think the best solution is to insist on studying English every day, including vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening and speaking.

When I am reading some English books, I inevitably come across many new words. But how can I understand these new words better? I always turn to an English-Chinese dictionary for help. Here are some rules I follow when I use my dictionary.

First, since all the English words are arranged in the alphabetical order, I look for the new words in the dictionary according to their first alphabets. For example, the word “able” can be found in the beginning of the dictionary while “zoo” can be found on the last pages of it. Secondly, when I look up the new words, I not only pay attention to their meanings, but also their

pronunciation and synonyms.

If we can make good use of our dictionary, we can learn and benefit a lot from it.

Dictionary has been my good friend in learning English. When I’m reading something in English, I often come across a new word. Then I’ll look it up in an English-Chinese Dictionary. It tells me a lot about the word, the pronunciation, the Chinese meaning and also how to use this word.

There’re some tips in the use of dictionary. For one thing, in order to find the word quickly, you should know that all the English words are arranged in the alphabetical order. In the dictionary you can first see the words beginning with the letter A, then B, C, D, E.... That means the word “dear” is sure to go before “English”. Then if two words start with the same first letter, you should check the second one. For another, if there’re sentence examples going with the word, you should also pay attention to them because they teach you how to use the word, which is very important in learning English words.

How can you learn English well? First, you should persevere. It’s true that English is sometimes really very difficult for us. But if you have a good method of learning, I think you will be good at it.

I met difficulties first, and then I tried to adjust my learning method. I began to do a lot of practice and made huge progress. You should speak more and listen more often. You’d better speak English with your classmates as often as possible not only in class but also out of class. I advise you to buy a radio, so you can listen to some English programmes over the radio. Then you will travel in the world of English. If you do that, you’ll be able to learn English well easily, and you’ll like English very much.
