R: Good afternoon, welcome to Hotel Inn, how can I be service you, madam?

L: I’d like to register a room, please.

R: All right. Have you ever made a reservation?

L: Yes I have.

R: Excellent! May I have your full name, please?

L: Of course! Luna Luo.

R: Wait a moment, oh …yes! Madam, please show me you ID card. L: Here you are.

R: ok, thanks. How long do you intend to stay in Tokyo?

L: For about seven days.

R: what kind of room do you require? A double room with double beds?

A double room with twin beds? Or a single room?

L: I’d like a single room with a bath, and what’s the rate, please? R: the current rate is 10 000 yen per night.

L: that’s a little high. I’m told your hotel is offering a discount, now. R: yes, we were, but the offer ended yesterday. I’m sorry.

L: oh, I see. What services come with that?

R: For 10 000 yen you’ll have a radio, a color television, a telephone and a major international newspaper delivered to your room every morning.

R: That’ll be fine. Well, it’s all right, Luna. Could you sign your name here, please?

L: Sure.

R: Thanks. Your room number is 202. Here’s your key. The room bellman will show you to your room. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay. The check-out time is 2 P.M of seventh day later.

Scene Two

V: Good morning, laundry department. Can I help you?

L: Yes, I want to have my dress dry-cleaned and ironed. And I want it sent back before 6 P.M, because I want to attend a party this evening.

V: I’m sorry, madam. If you have any laundry, please fill in the form in

his room and just leave the clothes in the laundry bag behind the bathroom door. The laundryman will be there to collect it at 2 P.M every afternoon.

L: Oh, That’s too complicated; can I just send my clothes here? V: I’m sorry you can’t. That’s the regulation here.

L: Oh, no!!! I wish to make a complaint. I’d like to see the manager, please.

V: Ok.

M: I’m the manager here. What can I do for you madam?

L: I want to have my dress laundry and send it back before 6 P.M this evening, but your valet says I have to fill a form and put it into the bag to wait for the laundry man to collect it. It’s difficult for me! I can’t understand the form. It’s written in Japanese!

M: Ok, I see. I’m sorry to hear about that. It’s the rule of our hotel, but I can help you to fill in it. Is it ok?

L: Yes! It’s very kind of you! (Filling in the form in room 202).

M: Please tell me or you can notify in the list whether you need your dress ironed, washed, dry, cleaned or mended.

L: I’d like my dress dry-cleaned and ironed, what if there is any laundry

damage?

M: In such a case, the hotel should certainly pay for it. The indemnity shall not exceed ten times the laundry.

L: That sounds quite reasonable. I hope there’s no damage at all. M: Of course, it will be not.

L: When can I have my laundry back?

M: We’ll deliver it before 5 P.M, I guess! Don’t worry madam; the laundry department has wide experience in their work.

L: Excuse me. My money is not enough. I want to exchange some RMB for yen.

L: I want to change some RMB into yen, and, I want to know what the exchange rate is today?

B: The real exchange rate between RMB and yens is about 1 to 12.67. So, what’s the amount you’d like to change?

L: Let me think. I want to exchange 10000 RMB, for the time. B: No problem. If that’s not enough, you can use the credit card. L: ok, I see.

B: Please fill in this exchange memo in duplicate, your name and the amount you want to change.

B: Will you please show me your passport?

L: Yes, here it is.
