You want something you can?t get by behaving within the rules, and you want it badly enough you?ll do it regardless of any guilt or deep regret, and you?re willing to run the risk of being caught. That?s how Ladd Wheeler, psychology professor at the University of Rochester in New York, defines cheating. Many experts believe cheating is on the rise. “We?re suffering a moral breakdown,” Pinkard says. “We?re seeing more of the kind of person who regards the world as a series of things to be dealt with. Whether to cheat depends on whether it?s in the person?s interest.” He does, however, see less cheating among the youngest students. Richard Dienstbier, psychology professor at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, believes that society?s attitudes explain much of the increase in cheating. “Twenty years ago if a person cheated in college, that is extremely serious, you will be dropped for a semester if not kicked out permanently,” he says. “Nowadays, at the University of Nebraska, for example, it is the stated policy of the College of Arts and Sciences that if a student cheats in an exam, the student must receive an ?F? on what he cheated in. That?s nothing. If you?re going to fail anyway, why not cheat? Cheating is most likely in situations where the interests are high and the chances of getting caught are low,” says social psychologist Lynn Kahle of the University of Oregon in Eugene. 56.The passage focuses on

A.making the reader believe that cheating is immoral B.discussing the reasons for cheating C.describing how students cheat in exams D.suggesting how to control cheating A.one wants something badly

Since life is short and the world is wide, the sooner you start exploring it, the better. Soon enough the time will come when you are too tired to move farther than the terrace(阳台)of the best hotel. Go now.

No need, you may say, to tell that. But what I do need to tell you is that you will meet with a surprising amount of opposition the moment you try to set out. Rubbish, you will reply. More people go abroad nowadays than ever before; never has travel, particularly among the young, been more strongly encouraged; never has there been so much in the way of organized tours and educational visits, of international exchanges. Perhaps not; but none of this, my dear young friends, is travel. Travel is not going on a round coach trip for $67 in all, or spending ten days at a hotel by the sea. Travel is when you want to see how much money and resources you have and then set out, alone or with chosen friends, to make an unhurried journey to a distant goal without a set date for your return.

Real travel, then, is independence in action, and is not liked by most parents. They don?t mind your going in a school party to Athens, because they know just where you are and when you?ll be back, and they can therefore permit you the imagination of freedom without for one second letting you beyond their control. But what they cannot bear is that you should travel all on your own, without giving them your address and return date. In fact, their fears are quite reasonable because that shows how much they love you. So in order to enjoy real travel and at the same time put your parents? mind at ease. It would be really important for you to bear the following advice in mind.

60.Which statement is true according to the passage?

A.People travel more than before. - 7 -

B.Young people are encouraged to travel abroad. C.People should not go on a round coach trip for $67. D.Educational visits should not be encouraged as they are not real travel. A.It means telling your parents nothing about the travel. B.It means not knowing where you want to go. C.It means traveling to a distant goal in an unhurried manner. D.It means traveling without any plan. A.they want you to be truly free B.you are still under their control 61.What does real travel mean according to the writer? 62.Your parents allow you to travel in a school party because C.they don?t have time to travel with you D.they know it?s good for you A.never mind how worried your parents are B.give your parents your address and return date C.tell your parents details about your travel D.not let your parents worry about you

Marie Vaz and her puppy walked down the hall of the nursing home and stopped in the doorway of a small room. Inside sat an old lady with a care attendant at her side. “Would she like to see my puppy?” Marie decide to try anyway. In 10 years of helping with animal-assisted therapy(治疗), she?d seen even the sickest patients enjoy a visit from a furry friend. Marie carried the puppy over to the old lady. Immediately, the woman reached out toward the dog! Full of excitement, she began smiling and trying to talk. The attendant watched in amazement. This woman had never communicated with anyone. It was like she wasn?t even alive-until the puppy came to visit.

Around the world sick adults and children fill lonely hospital rooms. They may have an illness or need long-term care. A puppy?s friendly eyes and warm paws may be just what the doctor ordered to encourage them and help them heal.

HOW AAT WORKS

The sick and old don?t always get the love and attention they need. They may not look good. And they may feel angry or depressed because they have to stay in a hospital. “But the puppies love them,” says Lea Mitchem, an AAT volunteer for more than 13 years. The soft fur of a dog feels safe and enjoyable.

Through monthly visits, therapy dogs put smiles on patients? faces and help them improve - 8 - 63.According to the writer, when you do real traveling, you should .

their health. The dogs encourage patients to do their exercises and communicate with those around them. Most AAT volunteers spend one or two hours a month visiting the same hospital or nursing home.

Some dogs are spcially trained to work with physical therapists. These dogs become part of an exercise program. Simply brushing a dog or throwing a ball to it helps patients gain strength and practice movements.

A DOG IN A HOSPITAL?

How can a “dirty” dog come into a clean hospital? Before dogs see patients, the dogs must see a doctor themselves. The doctor checks each animal. It must be healthy, clean and enjoy meeting strangers. Many AAT programs also require the dog and the owner to attend special training classes. More and more doctors now understand the benefits of AAT. Research shows that being with the animals lowers a patient?s blood pressure, heart rate and stress level. Patients relax and feel better.

AAT COMES TO ASIA

For more than 25 years, organizations in North America have been using dogs to treat people, Now people in Asia are benefiting from the dogs? “medicine” “, too. Dr. Dog is an AAT program that began in Hong Kong. Over 200 dogs visit more than 50 medical facilities in that city alone. And the project has spread to mainland China and the Philippines.”

Around the world AAT dogs are making a difference. Whether they meet physical or emotional needs, they?re helping people heal. And that?s what being a “doctor” is all about.

A.Animal—associated treatment. B.Animal—assisted therapy. C.Animal—appreciated treatment. D.Animal—attention therapy. A.Lower their blood pressure. C.Help them practise movements A.Hong Kong. Dolphins(海豚)are not fish, but warm-blooded animals. They live in groups, and speak to - 9 -

each other in their own language. In this way they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals. Their brain is nearly the same size as our own and they live a long time—at least twenty or thirty years.

Like some animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.

Strangely, dolphins seem to like man, and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people.

There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903 Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called The Penguin shot and wounded Jack. He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the area-except for The Penguin.

Today, some people continue to kill dolphins, but many countries of the world now protect them and in these places it is against the law to kill them.

One possible version:

It is reported in Rongcheng Daily that a big supermarket has made a new decision that in order to reduce white pollution, the market will no longer provide for the customers free plastic bags. In my opinion, the decision will have both positive and negative effects. As is known, people throw away used plastic bags wherever they want to and the white pollution, mainly caused by plastics, which is hard to break down, is becoming a danger to people?s life. There is no doubt that the decision will do good to the environment. However, it will bring inconvenience to the customers. It?s likely that fewer people will choose this supermarket and therefore the sales of the shop will be badly affected.

To solve this problem, I think the supermarket can provide paper bags or the customers are encouraged to bring along bags of their own. But what I want to point out is that stopping - 14 -

garage and it?s got a swimming pool. We could have parties by the pool.

M:Tht?s nice. But don?t you think the house is too big? Eight bedrooms? We don?t need more than three.

W:It?s got oil central heating, too.

M:And how often do you play tennis?

W:A couple of time a week.

W:Oh, Jim. You look so blue. Tell me what?s your problem?

- 16 -

M:Er I?m er beginning to lost my hair. I went to see the doctor, but he just said there was nothing I can do about it, because my father was bald by the time he was thirty.

W:Does that really worry you, Jim?

M:Very much. I can?t sleep well now and I have to be thinking of my hair all day when I?m doing other things.

W:Oh, poor Jim. That sounds terrible.

M:I don?t like it. It?s old you know. I don?t want to look like a middle-aged man at twenty-eight. I wish there would be some special shampoo to wash my hair to stop it getting worse.

W:Well, you know, Jim, There?s not really a lot you can do about it, even no particular medicine, I?m afraid. I mean baldness is one of the things that you just have to try to accept. Believe it or not, many women think bald men can look very attractive. My husband is bald and I think it really suits him.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至20题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。

In West Africa and Australia, there exists an unusual tree called the baobab. It?s a strange-looking tree. Its huge trunk sometimes measures as much as ten metres in diameter. It is thicker at the bottom than at the top. The branches near the ground are very long; those near the top are very short. It may look strange, but it is extremely useful. Its leaves are good to eat. Its white flowers turn into cool juicy fruit which tastes rather like cucumber. There are such strong fibres in the skin of the trunk that people can make rope and cloth from them. When a baobab gets old, its trunk becomes empty inside. An old tree?s empty inside space can be huge enough to hold many people. The local people even build their houses inside these trunks. When it rains, water collects in the trunk and remains cool and fresh because of such a lot of leaves and branches.
