20xx年 作文题目:Joseph Epstein, a famous American writer, once said, "We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide (so) that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how different the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about." Do you agree or disagree with him? Write an essay of about 400 words entitled:

Ambition

满分作文

Ambition is the decision one makes and the resolution with which he carries out that decision. It provides us with the required driving force to accomplish any undertakings in our life. Just as Joseph Epstein, a famous American writer put it, “And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed.” Indeed, once we make up our minds to choose to do something, then our life becomes meaningful and specifically orientated. This notion of life, as far as I observe, is closest to truth and does apply to almost all aspects of life.

First things first, ambition renders us a sense of mission. No matter what decision you make you have to be responsible for your choice. Your choice procures you a sense of orientation, or more specially a sense of mission. And only a strong mission may enable one to accomplish greatness. Caesar of the ancient Roman Empire was urged by his ambition “I came, I saw, I conquered.” And became an unrivaled empire builder in the history of Rome. John Milton, stimulated always by his ambition that aimed at writing some “mighty lines” which England would unwillingly forget, had in due time secured his position as the second Shakespeare in the history of English literature.

In the second place, ambition can bring one’s potentials to the full. Ambition may well serve as a catalyst activating one’s dormant potentials. Without ambition one’s potentials will remain slumbering like a dormant volcano. A case in point is Ms Zhang Haidi, a Chinese Helen Keller. It was her ambition to be a useful person has turned the almost paralyzed Zhang Haidi into a well-accomplished figure whose achievements would dwarf those of some normal people aim at the sun, though, at worst, they may probably land on the moon.

Influential as it is upon us, however, ambition must be channeled in the right direction. If wrongly directed, one’s ambition may bring havoc on him and others. Hitler, whose ambition was to conquer Europe by whatever evil means, finally turned him into a demon. It was this demon that almost cast Europe into an unfathomable abyss of anguish and suffering. Another case is Macbeth whose ambition was to become the king of Scotland. However, his ambition was materialized by the murder of King Duncan. Consequently, unbearable guilt and psychological agony drove him to his tragic doom.

To sum up, ambition can benefit us tremendously if wisely and correctly channeled, otherwise it may ruin others and ourselves. A poet says: life can be bad; life can be good; life can be dirty; life can be sad,; life can even be painful. In my mind’s eye, a person can make his life beautiful, meaningful and rewarding and stand out as a respectable personage if he is motivated by a

well-orientated ambition.

2007 My opnion on advertisement

Advertisements appear everywhere in modern society. There are many way to advertise and ads come in different forms. Newspapers and billboards carry advertisements; some products are announced on TV and radio which have a wide audience. Advertising is a big industry and many agencies are set up for furnish a variety of services for it.

However, advertising is not welcome sometimes. A most irritating thing is to watch advertisements before and during films on TV. There are so many of them that they make you forget what you are sitting there for. The ironical thing is that advertisements of one type of things are often shown one after another so that you are confused as to which product you should choose. What’s more, advertising is not always truthful. The advertisers exaggerate the benefits of the merchandise they want to sell in order to gain more profits. Thus the consumer falls victim to such advertising.

Although there are disadvantages of ads, we can not forget the advantages and the conveniences they bring to us. First, by telling us where something is available, they may save us money and time. They guide us in finding suitable jobs and other information as well. Secondly, a wide range of activities and institutions receive finanical support through advertising. Without this support we would have to pay much more for newspaters and sports games. Thirdly, perfect advertisements even provide entertainment. A considerable amount of effort goes into their production. So in most cases the photography is truly artistic, the slogans are genuinely witty, and the situations are decidely funny.

Generally speaking, advertisements have become one of the most authoritative voices speaking to us today. Let us make our life easier by learning to choose proper ads, and be the master of advertisements, not their salve.

A Major Problem Resulted From Digital Divide(数字鸿沟,数码鸿沟)

In recent years, although the majority of all countries especially the post-industrial societies, have achieved preeminent

progress thanks to the widespread of personal computer and Internet, this trend also resulted in large groups of poor, underprivileged(被剥夺基本权力的,穷困的,下层社会的) and disadvantaged(贫穷的,处于不利地位的) people who lack in computer skills. Such groups have limited access to the information age and are identified below the Digital Divide. These people find it difficult to find a decent job, and ma

ny of them are likely to turn to drugs and crimes. In a word, this tendency has created many social problems, namely unemployment, cime, drug abuse, disparity(不一致, 不同, 不等) between the rich and the poor, and so on. I think the most important element among them is crime.

The Digital Divide functions on two levels, namely the domestic level and the international level. On the domestic level, when it comes to other negative effects accompanied by the emergence of Digital Divide such as unemployment and drug abuse, some people may adopt an inappropriate perspective that they are not affected by these problems and show no interest in solving them. Regardless of the political correctness of such opinions, the devastating effects of crimes closely associate with all those in the society and allow of no neglect. If we don't put this issue under scrutiny, our lives and properties will naturally suffer great loss as a result and this issue virtually serves the function of a trigger of dissatisfaction among the people. Furthemore, since the computer skills are necessary in our routine jobs, those computer illiterate will be disappointed to find they are not qualified to have an upper hand in the job market. They have no choice but to commit crimes as a means of earning their bread as well as revenging(报仇, 复仇, 替...报仇, 复仇)on the society.

On the international level, people in underdeveloped countries will lament that their situation is worse than before since the advent of the personal computer and Internet, whose original purpose is , ironically, to provide convenience as well as efficiency to all human beings instead of causing social and economical gaps between rich and poor countries. To make it worse, radicals from some underdeveloped countries will attribute their plight to the exploitation and oppression inflicted by developed countries aided by advanced technology. Consequently, they are entitled to take an extreme form of crime, namely terrorist attacks launched against Western contries, as they deserve the punishment.

If the digital technology continues to develop at the expense of those beneath the Digital Divide and the underdeveloped countries do not take an active approach to the problems, even well educated computer literates in developed countries will not enjoy their lives devoid of a sense of security. To eliminate all crimes caused by the Digital Divide, all governments should provide the underclass with educational and financial provision, which in turn generates possible job opportunities. Meanwhile, developed countries should provide unconditional economic, financial, technological aids for poor countries to help them build infrastructure and purchase equipment so that they can take advantage of current technology.

University Education is Essential to One's success

It is not an uncommon phenomenon that many people become successful without a formal college education, some typical examples of which are Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft; Li Jiacheng, a Hong Kong billionaire and Hua Luogeng, a world-class mathematician. This leads some people to believe that a person can achieve great success without a formal education and that the qualifications a successful person needs cannot be acquired through the study in university or other institutions of similar nature. It cannot be denied that there do exist such examples in every country; however, I can hardly share the above point of view for several reasons

In the first place, a college or university is a specialized institution of higher learning where people can receive systematic and scientific training in a certain field, which paves the way for(为...铺平道路) their future career. With the advent of the era of knowledge-based economy, a man without a s

ound academic background can hardly accomplish anything. Only in universities and other institutions of higher learning can he/she master the professional knowledge and relevant skills essential to his/her career.

Secondly, it is wise to learn at another man's cost. We can benifit much from the invaluable experience and knowledge handed down from our ancestors and draw a lesson from the failure of our predecessors so as to avoid detour.

Thirdly, when in university, one also has to learn to communicate and cooperate with teachers and fellow students, during which one cultivates friendship and acquires the interpersonal skills, both of which are conductive to one's future career and success. University is said to be a miniature society.

Last of all, there are innumerable successful people who attribute their achievements to a formal university education. It is no wonder that so many parents spare no efforts to send their children to colleges and universities.

From what I have mentioned above, it is obvious that we can acquire the qualifications and qualities essential to our future career and success through university education. The systematic knowledge and solid academic foundation will make it easy for us to understand and absorb new-developed theories based on previous research efforts; with the social skills we acquire in such a miniature society as university, we will not have to waste much time learning how to handle human relationship. Compared with those without formal university education, university graduates have already gained an upper hand(优势,上风,有利地位) at the very beginning of building their own career
