书信 英语书信的格式与汉语不尽相同,下面举例说明。

  1. 书信实例

*凡带定冠词的专有名词,写在信封上或写在信笺里收信人姓名,地址位置上时,定冠词可省略。但在其它句子中不能省略。

*Road, Street, Avenue 可分别缩写为Rd, St和Ave.城镇名一般不缩略,而一个国家的分区名称有时要缩略。如:New York 作为城市名不可缩略,而作为州名就可写作NY。又如:NJ代表新泽西州,Tex代表得克萨斯州。

2.信封格式说明

  1. 收信人的姓名,地址写在信封偏下部:

第1行:写收信人的姓名。一般要在姓名前加上Mr, Mrs, Miss 等等。如有职务或学衔,则要用Chairman, Dean, Prof(Professor), Dr(Doctor) 等,以示礼貌和尊敬。要先写收信人的名字,再写姓。可在称呼后定收信人的全名,也可写名字的开头字母再加姓,不可以只写名字。比如:假定收信人姓名是Elizabeth Jane Paulsen,,则可写:

Miss E. J. Paulsen , Miss Elizabeth Paulsen,

Miss Elizabeth J. Paulsen,

但不能写:Miss Elizabeth 或 Miss Elizabeth Jane

第2行:写修信人住址门牌号码及街名。

第3行:写城镇名,省名(州各,分区名称)。

第4行:写国名。

收信人姓名可写TO,表示"致……"

  1. 寄信人的姓名、地址可以不写,成可以写在信封左上角,还可以写在信封背面口盖上。写的格式、顺序与收信人姓名、地址相同,但一般不在姓名加职称和学衔。寄信人姓名前可加From,表示“寄自……”。
  • 中国邮政标准信封要求寄信人地址、姓名写在信封背面。邮票若超过3张,也要贴在背面。
  1. 邮票贴在右上角
  2. “航空(Par Avion 或Air Mail)”,“挂号(Registered)”,“快信(Express)”等,写在信封左下角或邮票正文,当不写寄予信人姓名、地址时也可写在左上角。
  3. “急件(Urgent)”,“密件(Confidential)”,“印刷品(Printed matter)”,“只有照片(Photo only)”,“不可折叠(Do not fold)” 等写在信封左下方。
  4. 若邮寄给第三者,请其转交收信人,可在收信人姓名下行先写C/O(Care of ),接着写第三者的姓名。如:

若不经邮寄,托人转交,则在信封中央写收信人姓名,左下方写Kindness of Mr/comrade…或Through courtesy of Mr/Comrade…

  1. 事务信件

①信头

A.寄信人地址    与私人信件格式相同

B.寄信日期  与私人信件格式相同

②收信人地址 与信封上信件格式相同

③称呼 一般习惯于写“亲爱的的+先生(太太、小姐)或博士(教授)+姓”。比如:假若他叫Bill Hailey,就该写Dear Mr Hailey。如果不知其姓名,可用Dear Sir或Dear Madam。如果写给一个机构,用 (Dear )Sirs也可以。

如果不是直接写给哪一个人的,可在信头下写“致 ”,然后写“亲爱的先生”。如:

Head of the Department (致系主任)

Dear Sir(亲爱的先生)

  • “亲爱的先生们”美国英语习惯于说Gentlemen ,一般不说Dear Sirs 。

④信的正文 事务信件要目的明确,行文简洁,而且要用正式文体。格式与私人信件同。

⑤结尾 如果知道收信人姓名,可写Yours sincerely 。如果不认识收俯,可写出 Yours faithfully(你忠实的),Yours truly(你的真挚的)。结尾的写法与私人信件相同:首字母大写,结尾加逗号。

  • 美国英语中,一般不用Yours faithfully,一般用Yours sicerely 或Yours truly.

⑥签名 要亲笔签上寄信人全名,即使信打字的,也要在打字的姓名的上行亲笔签名。

若寄信人以官职身份发函,那末在打字的姓名后应附上职务或学衔以表明你对处理信中所谈之事的权威。

  • 如有附件,应在左下角注明Encl. 或Enc. 如:

便条

  1. 便条用于临时的通知、请求、询问或留言,一般不用信封。
  2. 便条格式图示及说明。
  1. 地址和日期:留条人地址常可省去。日期一般只写月、日或星期中的一天,甚至可以只写上午(下午、晚上)钟点。
  2. 称呼:Dear 可以省去。很熟悉的人之间可称名,不用写姓。
  3. 正文:文字应通俗、简要、口语化。有时可以不用完整句子。比如:可省去主语I(WE)或联系动词。
  4. 签名:可签上本人惯用的签名式。不必将姓名用印刷体写出或打字。

     明信片

要求行文明了,口语化,可不用完整句子,可省略某些词语。有两种格式。

  1. 有的明信片两面右上角贴邮票,中间写收信人姓名、地址;反面右上角写寄信人地址、日期,中间写信的正文,右下角写寄信人姓名。如:
  1. Lin Mei有的明信片正面为图片,反面分左、右两部分。一般右边贴邮票并写惧人姓名、地址;左边右上角写寄信人地址、时间,中间写信的正文,下面写寄信人的姓名。

请柬和回柬

  1. 有的正式请柬和回束一般用于宾客较多的正式宴会或其它人数较多的社交活动。要求一定的格式。
  2. 正式请束和回柬上,邀请人和被 邀请人都已经用第三人称形式写在正式里了,故请柬和回柬上无称呼、结尾、签名等项。团体对个人发出的请柬上也可不写被 邀请人姓名,而用第二人称。
  3. 寄出日期写在左下方。如:

*邀请少数朋友便餐,可用便条,不必用正式请柬。

名片 可以只写本人姓名(一般用全名)。也可加上职务、学衔或先生(夫人,小姐,女士等)。

布告、通知

一般只需在正文中写上“ ”等 词,出布告、通知的单位的名称写在正文右下角,也可写在 的上方;出布告、通知的日期写在左下角,有时可省略。正文可采用一般文章格式(如例1,2,3)。为了醒目,也可采用广告式,即一句分几行,尽量写在正中,各行第一个字母大写(如例4,5)
