The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. Hemingway is also one of my

favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such asA Farewell to Arms

But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.

I extremely admire in the novel the senior fisherman's will, he let me understand one person certainly must have relentless spirit, only then could obtain successfully.

the book described An old man sailed on sea for ages, only to bring back a large colossal marlin skeleton，a worn-out boat, and his exhausted body. In Hemingway’s novel , there is only simple plot, and characters pure as water drops. However, no battle can be more glorious , and no story can be more appealing than it. I firmly refer it to story of hero.

“A man can be destroyed, but he can never be defeated.” The strong notes came out not from the old man’s mouth, but from the bottom of his heart.

Though he doesn’t accomplish his initial goal, he is not a failure. On the contrary, he is remembered as, hero.

Usually,when people finished this masterpiece,they always are fully convinced by the great old man’s determination,courage,and toughness.I have already heard of this masterpiece for many years,peope love it,prise it,and respect it.But when I finished it,at the first moment,I just wonder:Actually,Our human-beings don’t know what we really want,what we dream for,and what we fight for.The problems are always produced by ourselves continuously ,then,we try our best to defeat it and even,destroy it.But to the essense,who on earth was defeated till the end?And what’s more,after the conquest,what are we going to do and what can we do?! The essence of our Chinese tranditional culture is the affinity while for the Amerian culture it emphsizes the conquest, that’s really totally different and it’s what we should think over it,only when we understand the meaning of conquest,can we absorb and extend the meaning of our life.If we only focus on the conquest blindly,even it’s a wonderful,splendid and encouraging pro

cess,nothing will on our hands at last just as the old man Santiago get nothing but the skeleton.Many people admit and prise this belief that the man is not made for defeat,,a man can be destroyed but not defeated,but what about other creatures in the world,to some extense,in the whole universe?No matter what kind of person we are,or how small or humble we are,it doesn’t matter.What matters most is whether we know what we want to purchase through our life.And finally,what impressed me a lot is that child with great loveliness!The child took the beautiful and bright days back for the old man.We human beings are really a kind of strange creature.We can accept death,but when facing the failure,it will call for all of our strenth and courage.

I realized that our own lives are just like a vast ocean, splendid and miraculous, but dangerous with reefs as well. The waves can push you to an unbelievable climax, but in a blink of eye, it can also take away all your happiness without empathy. So, when it comes to failure, most of us lose our heart. After reading this book, I understand that during the course of life, failures only belong to the one that compromise to limits. As long as you haven’t lose heart, you still have faith, you still preserve in fighting against limits till the day your weapon is

broken like the old man’s, little by little, inch by inch, you will push the boundaries of hinders forward, and one inch is sure to be a beautiful leap. And that is not how you grow up, but how you stand up on your own. And virtually, that is the way human beings evolve.

Chances are that life gives you little in rewards of your endeavors, and God may leave you with nothing but an empty marlin skeleton. But we ought to set the old man as our model; cling to his is attitude towards life through the changing era. Let’s dance on the wave of life, savor resolute in the gust of wind, and appreciate passion through the waves. For this is what life all about.

Remember, you have become a hero when you fight till the last moment!

From now on, I do not care what kind of difficulties encountered, we must face with confidence, insisted in the end, and never flinched. I would like to thank the book, thanks to it so that I have learned so much knowledge, it let me know how to thank so many reason, let me know for its own lack of timely and correct their own shortcomings, so that I become a socially useful people. Sharks may be seen as a blow to eat our success

and happiness. But as the child said: "It does not beat you, it does not." A real strong, can only be destroyed can not be beat. Solely, which is "Old Man and the Sea" tells us.

The Old Man and the Sea

Nowadays I have read a book called The Old Man and the Sea. This novel written by Hemingway told us a story about an old man whose name is Santiago. It was one of Hemingway’s most famous novels and helped Hemingway made great achievement in his literature career. What’s more, this book was published by YILIN PRESS in April 1, 2007.

The hero of The Old Man and the Sea was a senior fisherman who called Santiago. He was ordinary but brave and great. Whatever the weather, he had to fish to make a living. His life was very hard, but he never gave up. Santiago faced his life positively and lived well by himself. Fortunately, he was not lonely because of the company of a little boy. The cute boy’s name was Manolin. In Manolin’s heart, this old fisherman was not only a hero, but also his idol. He treated Santiago very well and often helped him. Though Manolin’s parents prevented him staying with Santiago, this little boy didn’t do this. He still chose to accompany and learn from the senior fisherman, who was a hero in his eyes. He believed that Santiago was a good fisherman and he could obtain some knowledge from him.

I think that we should also learn from Santiago due to his great spirit. Although he was very poor, he was still confident enough to overcome all the difficulties in his life. His body was weak, but his mind was strong. For about 84 days, Santiago hadn’t got any fishes. However, he didn’t stop trying. He just made good preparation and set out in the 85^th day. Through the 3-day fight, the old fisherman got the first fish in those 88 days. It was a big marlin fish. Seeing it, Santiago was quite tired out but also excited. Unexpectedly, after he made the big marlin fish surrender, he met across some big and fierce sharks. Those sharks wanted to eat the big marlin fish too. Certainly, Santiago wouldn’t allow it happen. Facing those terrible sharks, Santiago wasn’t afraid. He fought against them bravely. Finally, those sharks ate the meat of the big marlin fish, just leaving the bone of the big marlin fish to the old man.

Maybe someone would regard Santiago as a loser, but from my point of view, Santiago didn’t lose. He was a hero and his spirit would exit in people’s heart forever. 

Nowadays, more and more people lack the spirit of bravery and insistence. That was what we should learn from the old man. Santiago was quite aware of the trouble he would get into. He just tried his best to solve it, though. So, in fact, he was a real winner. We ought to set the senior fisherman as an example. Santiago was worthy to be learned by Manolin. The little boy’s choice was right and sensible.

As far as I am concerned, whatever and whenever difficulty we may come across, we shouldn’t be scared. First, we ought to calm down and be confident and rational to face it. Second, trying our best to find the appropriate way to settle the problem is very important. Third, whatever the result will be, we just work hard to realize it as possible, or we may regret. Only in this way, can we succeed and make more achievements in the future.
