Review of ‘Oliver Twist’

As you have read ‘Oliver Twist’, a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century which has became one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens, you can really understand the worlds‘regain the nature of goodness’.

Charles Dickens was born in a poor family ,having a poor background ,he wrote this novel in his twenties ,who was just with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals,as well as to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of ‘Oliver Twist’ was an orphan named Oliver Twist, when he was born ,he was thrown into a world which is full of poverty and crime. He has suffered enormous pains, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt really sorry for the poor boy, but at the same time I detest the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as all the happy stories do, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a

happy life at the end. One of the plots which attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

Sometimes,in the deep and quiet nights,I keep asking myself,how can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

Reflect on myself,I define the nature of goodness to be one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they sh

ow no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

There are some worlds in an essay, ‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’.

All in all,if a person without goodness ,he is destined to lose everything. Thereby, all those ‘vermin-to-be’ should learn from the book and remember to regain the nature of goodness in the bottom of theirs’hearts.

读书心得体会：雾都孤儿

终于把《雾都孤儿》给看完了，虽然是两个不同时期，生活环境也不同的人，但是他的经历让我感触颇深。

《雾都孤儿》是本世界名著，它讲述的是发生在19世纪的一个动人的故事。 书中的主人翁奥利弗·特威斯特是一个孤儿，他出生在济贫院，出生不久他的妈妈就死了。后来，他被当作一件物品被送来送去，受尽折磨，直到最后遇到一位善良的布朗洛老先生，这位先生收留了他，从此过上了好的生活。 读完这本书，我的心情久久不能平静。可怜的奥利弗在已经失去亲人的痛苦下，受了这么多折磨。真不知道在他瘦弱的身体下，有着怎样的意志，能使他坚持不懈，使他在饥饿、寒冷、孤独下顽强斗争，向美好的生活前进。 最令我感动的是奥利弗遇到强盗集团的那段经历。奥利费在路上走上了七天七夜，饥饿难忍，疲倦不堪。他遇到杰克一个小偷。杰克把奥利弗带到了贼窝，小偷们想把奥利弗训练成一个小偷。但奥利弗受尽折磨也不愿意，逃了出来。读到这，我心中油然而生敬佩之情。他只有10岁，和我差不多大，可他的坚强、勇敢、正义是我们难以相比的!奥利弗承受着痛苦，宁愿过着流浪的生活，也不愿意成为一个小偷。他对美好生活的向往，对生命的向往，是支持他前进的力量。

与奥利弗相比较，我们生活的多幸福，可还是不满足，常常抱怨生活。在目标追求上，也是一遇到小小的困难，就放弃了，缺少意志力。现在，世界上还有许多的孩子正承受着巨大的痛苦，正和饥饿、孤独、寒冷作战。他们多么向往美好的生活。我们能视而不见吗?我们要珍惜现有学习条件，刻苦读书学习，让自己成长为一个对社会有用的人，这样我们才能够有能力去帮助这些孩子，让他们和我们一样拥有灿烂阳光般的美好生活。

在多余的时间，我们要经常看一些书，读书可以让我们的视野开阔，增加我们的内涵修养。
