Introduction

Valentine chocolates are made in Turin, Italy. They are recognized as luxury products. The company started by selling raw chocolate to other chocolate manufacturers. Later, Valentine began selling packaged chocolates directly to the public and created the Valentine brand. The company expanded fast. However, in the last two years, sales growth has slowed down and costs have risen, which caused a fall in profits. According to the chart 1, in the last three years, the turnover increased €27.9 million, while the pre-tax profits reduced €2.5 million. Reasons are as follows. There is widespread price cutting in the industry. Then, factory machines often break down. Besides, demand for its Classic Bar is falling and Valentine’s new products, biscuits and cakes, are not selling well. According to the chart 2, it is obviously that Valentine’s main products are packaged chocolates as a 55% of turnover and Valentine Classic Bar as a 25% of turnover. However, Valentine’s other products including raw chocolates, exclusive handmade chocolates, chocolates drinks and biscuits and cakes occupy a 20% of turnover. Finally, sales staff are becoming demotivated. In the future, the owners have set aside €1.5 millions to invest in their company to make the company become an international business. However, how to spend the money?

Findings

To solve the company’s problem, the company’s owners have set aside €1.5 million to invest in their company. Now, according to the chart 3, I have made an investment project combined with the problem of the company.

Among the problems of the company, I think the production problem that factory machines often break down is the most serious. Therefore, I plan to choose the second option to buy new machinery. This investment will end the delays caused by the old machines breaking down.

Then I will invest some money in more research and development. Developing new production such as a low-fat chocolate drink, new biscuits/cakes can attract more customers.

In addition, I am ready to set up online sales. It is beneficial to increase sales and profits. Nowadays, shopping online has become a popular trend. It is a numerous new market.

Finally, the rest money will be used to buy a new fleet of cars, which can increase motivation of the sales staff. The staff is an important element in the process of running a successful operation. The demotivated sales staff must have a lower sales accomplishment than those who are active. So it is necessary to buy a new fleet of cars.

That is what I want to invest. The next problem is to make a detailed solution. Please read the recommendation.

RECOMMENDATION

To solve the company’s present situation and continue to grow, the company’s owners have decided to set aside €1.5 million to invest in the company. According to the chard 3, there are many investment options. And I have made a finding report based on the company’s problem. Now, please allow me to make a detailed solution.

Firstly, due to the production problem that factory machines often break down, I will invest €200,000 in buying new machinery. The company’s owners believe Valentino makes the finest chocolates in the world. So I take it for granted to have the best machinery. The machinery should be the base of being an international business. If there is no good machinery, the production’s delays will cause the company’s reputation problem, which is a key point in the commercial industry. Machinery is an important resource. Therefore, buying new machinery is my first step to make the Valentino become an international business.

Secondly, because of the phenomenon that staff are becoming demotivated, I plan to invest €500,000 in buying a new fleet of cars, which can increase motivation of the sales staff. Like the machinery, the staff is also one of the important resources of the company. It is the human resource, while the machinery is the computer hardware resource. So it is an important element of a successful company as well. The active staff do the work more efficiently, which benefit the company’s further

development. Consequently, buying a new fleet of cars is may second step.

After solving the basic problem of production and staff morale, what next to do is to improve the demand problem. That is to find new markets. So I am ready to invest €150,000 in setting up online sales. With the rapid development of the society, shopping online is becoming more and more popular. Because shopping online is cheaper and quicker than shopping in the store. Besides, shopping online makes the life of those who do not like going shopping out of home more convenient. Facing up with such a numerous market, I think it is high time to set up online sales. That is what I plan to do. It is my third step, too.

Finally, I will invest €200,200 in more research and development. According to the chart 2, I think it is necessary to develop new products. It is also a big market. Nowadays, with the improvement of people’s living standard, people are more and more concerned about their health. Therefore, I plan to develop new products such as a low-fat chocolate drink, new biscuits/cakes. The unique products can attract more customers. With the help of online sales, sales of new products must be increased. That is the last step in my solution.

There will be rest $450,000. I plan to use it to improve the program among the four steps, which needs to be enhanced.

What an extract from a profile by a well-know business journal said is

that Valentino can continue to grow, but only if it develops new products and finds new markets. Therefore, I believe the company’s present situation will be improved if you can accept my investment. Thank you for your reading.

CONCLUSION

Valentine chocolates are made in Turin, Italy. Firstly, the company expanded fast. However, in the last two years, sales growth has slowed down and costs have risen. There are three main reasons: Production, Demand and Staff morale. The company’s owners want Valentine to become an international business. So they have set aside €1.5 million to invest in their company. I have made a investment project, including four steps. The first is to buy new machinery to solve the production problem. The second is to buy a new fleet of cars to increase motivation of the sales staff. The third is to set up online sales. The last is to invest in more research and development. Both of the two investments will improve the demand problem. The rest money will be used to improve the project. I wish that my investment project can be accepted. I must try my best.
