For the purpose of solving the traffic problem, the government office held a meeting last week,at which many experts had a full discussion on the matter and put forward several solutions.

The first problem they point out is the increasing number of private cars, which often cause serious traffic jams. They hold the opinion that the government should reduce the number of private cars by raising the tax rate of using cars, and call on people to use public transportation.

The second problem is the poor road conditions. Many of the city's streets are narrow. In order to help the vehicles run faster, some old houses, they say, must be pulled down to make way for the traffic.

Another problem:because of too many trucks from other cities and regions, the narrow streets are made narrower by the trucks that are parked along the roadside. It is suggested that those trucks should not be permitted to come into the city in the daytime. They can only enter the city during the night.

All the experts present agree that these measures can help solve the problems efficiently.

Dear Editor,

Since the beginning of this term, the Senior Three students of our school have had four exams every week. They have recently had a discussion about whether these exams are necessary or not.

Opinions are divided on the question. 70% of the students are against this arrangement. They think that they have too many exams. These exams occupy lots of lecture time which should be devoted to learning new lessons. The students have to sit up late preparing for the exams. They feel so tired that they often fall asleep in the classroom. They suggest that they have exams month1y instead of weekly:

On the other hand,30% of the students think that in order to be well prepared for the college entrance exams, the Senior Three students ought to be examined often enough. They serve as a pressure forcing students to work hard. They hold the view that the weekly exams shouldn't he done away with.

I believe this discussion is important, and hope our teachers can also enter into it so as to help our principal make a correct decision.

                                                                    Yours truly,

                                                                    Zhuang Qi

写作4:学校在“读书节”的时候就学生对阅读经典名著的情况对每班进行了一次调查,以下是你班的调查数据,请就此写一份报告给学校。

On the 20## Reading Festival,a research has been done on students' attitudes towards classic works of literature. As is shown by the figures in the table,my classmates are not interested in reading classics. Among the 47 students interviewed, only 2 of them said they read classics often while surprisingly as many as 36 students said they had never read any classic works of literature. Nobody reads classics every day and the number of the students who read classics occasionally is just 9.It is obvious that the trend that classics are being turned down by student readers is on the rise.

However, it is widely recognized that most classics deal with the common human themes, which are universal. No matter how time changes, they will not let you down and they have made basic contributions to human moral philosophy. So in my opinion, reading classic literature does do good to students, especially in the era of rapid development and change. To cope with the situation, the school may provide some simplified copies instead of original ones for students

There has been a discussion in the community whether trucks should be banned. About 40 percent of the people insist there should not be any trucks moving in the residential area. They think trucks are not only noisy, but they pollute the air with dirty fumes and they ruin the roads. Besides, the children are so terrified by the rushing trucks that they do not dare to cross streets. They hope to have a big notice put up everywhere in the community to forbid all kinds of trucks to pass.

However, the rest of the people hold the opposite view. Without trucks coming and going, according to their viewpoints, the factories and shops would have to close down. As a result, many people in this area would lose their jobs. Even the nearby garages, gas stations and cafes would be affected. Therefore, they are afraid that the ban would be a disaster. So far the discussion is still going on. It is believed that no decision will be made until all possibilities are fully considered.

Though the plastic bag ban has come into effect since June 1st, many people still hold their favorite ideas on expelling the plastic devil. And here’s a survey report.

More than a half people regard developing a new environment-friendly and cheap substitute as the best way to control the plastic bag use. Still a third thinks the moral discipline is the best way. However, 12 percent of people hold the contrary opinion and they think legislation should be considered. How funny it is to imagine someday one would be put into jail just because he used a plastic bag! And a quarter hold the opinion that the government should make a good use of authority to make everyone go green. Meanwhile only one fifth of people think the present measure—charging for the plastic bag use—is the most effective.

It’s good news that everyone is concerned about the environment issue. To solve the tough problem, we need a combination of ways mentioned here and every one of us is bound to play a role in this campaign.
