As a judge, I listened carefully to every speaker and my feelings change three times. First, I think I had something to say, because there are so many topics concerning technology and our life. Then, I felt a little worried because what I wanted to illustrate was said by all of the speakers. Finally, I felt relieved to find that I had something to add.

According to the statistics I made, students emphasize showed their deep concern over the pervasiveness of technology and our lameness without technology while students emphasize the contribution of technology to our life. The proportion is to .

I’m happy to see that most of students keep a critical view on technology and are alert to its potential disadvantages. But I don’t think it is proper to say that TECHNOLOGY has controlled our life; TECHNOLOGY has deprived of our innate faculties; TECHNOLOGY is accomplice of war. Why? If we think deeper, we can find it is HUMAN DESIRES rather than technology that rule our life and cause destruction to human being. With the aid of technology, human desires for power, binge, leisure and lust are released and enlarged. If one day human being does fall slave into technology, we should not blame technology but ourselves.

Take the nuclear energy as an example. Beneath the countless losses of life and property is human’s hunger for power, resources and age-old hatred and disputes between human races. So we are the murder, not technology. Technology is at best a tool not the motive. Nuclear can be a weapon in war but also generate energy that runs the machines and provides electricity. Which role it will play depends on human’s choice.

Some say the mobile phone ruins the harmonious relationship between couples by claiming that mobile phones are increasing used as the detectors for extramarital affairs. In china, 5000 couples divorce per day. But again, can we blame all these divorces on the use of mobile phones? I guess it is the interrelated distrust that gives mobile phones the super power.

In addition, the computer has been criticized for its dominance in our life. I have known that perfectly because I just bought one last month. Frankly speaking, after owning a computer, I just went classroom for self-reviewing twice in a month. But I dare not criticize it, because i rely on it for searching document. I can’t cut down the bridge before crossing the river. Instead, I ask myself why computer can control me. Because of laziness, I just copy a paper from Baidu, without further probing; because of the hunger for entertainment, I indulge myself with movies and box news; because of fear of making new friends in the real world, I spend all the time chatting online.

The computer provides us with hot news and information, international education resources and a basket of exotic cultures waiting for us click on. The choice lies in our hands. A microscope of the world or a ghostwriter, which one would you like to choose?

To sum up, I just want to point out that beneath the pervasiveness of technology is the human desires which control us. Technology should not be the scapegoat for human’s faults. The attitude towards technology is in fact how to face up to our inner desires and disability of human nature.

As Xun Zi said, the man is elevated from animals for their mastery of objects. 君子性非异也,善假于物也

We should lose no time in strengthening up our souls in order to make full and PROPER use of technology, because it seems that human being are used to paying more attention to the outside world but forgetting taking good care of their inner desires which will burst into flames anytime.
