英文开学演讲稿

Ladies and gentlemen, and my dearest children!

Good morning! I’m glad to see so many lovely children and amiable teachers joining in.

['em??bl]

Here comes the new year

We will start the new semester after the joyful, peaceful winter vacation, with new feelings, and

[s??m?st?]

new hopes. Furthermore, in this new semester we will face more challenges.

[,f???'m?r]

But I believe, the new school year will be a wonderful year and a happy year for you!

['w?nd?fl]

There are your tender teachers accompanying you ,day and night, and your parents devoting

['t?nd?] [?'k?mp?n???] ['p?r?nt]

themselves regretlessly. From here on out, you will gain knowledge, learn about rules and

[r?'gretl?s]

receive an all-round development, and more importantly, you will hold the ability of seizing true happiness.

Dear children, please tell me aloud: are you happy?

Dear children, in our eyes you are as sweet as angels, and it is happy to accompany angels, so you

[?end??l]

are the spring of teachers’ happiness. Thank you!

Dear children, the biggest wish of teachers and parents is that you may grow up happily and healthily.

I think what you received is not only a piece of paper, or a simple word of praise, but also a

[?pe?p?r] [pre?z] ] [b?t ??lso] heartfelt gesture passed on from these elders to you. All of the teachers and parents hold the same

[?d??s t??] ['eld?(r)] [?l ?v] ['pe?r?nt]

wish for health and happiness in their hearts, and we all hope you walk steadily towards the happy future that belongs to you! [?st? d?l?] I want to send my dear children a section of the lyrics in the theme song of “The First Class”:

[?l? r?k] [θim s??]

The same breaths, the same heartbeats, open-minded to see, with happiness surrounded, let your dreams fly! Be not afraid of high mountains,

be your brave selves, then it is the best of you!

It’s a new year, and a new semester has begun.I believe most of you probably made goals for

[ɡol] yourselves. Today I will speak to you about My hopes for you

[t?'de?]

First of all, I hope you will get better marks to fulfill your goals . As a gifted student, high academics are what people expect. But it isn’t as easy as it seems to get good grades; teachers at

the gifted program are more stringent as well. For instance, if you plan on improving your

[?str?n d??nt]

French ,you can average in oral, writing and reading. And to achieve this, you can read 30 minutes

[??r?l]

every day in French to enhance your understanding of the French language. After all ,nothing in the world is difficult for anyone who sets his mind to it.

Secondly, I really think you should exercise more.college students can benifit a lot from it . First of all , attending physical sports can help you build a strong body and keep abounding energy . .for Exercise is a key factor in reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

['?ks?sa?z] [hɑrt d??ziz] [?da???bi:ti:z]

Moreover , physical exercise is an effictive way to relieve pressure and keep a pleasant mood . Besides , by attending physical activities , you can have more chances to communicate with others , which can help them improve their social skills .

Thirdly, I am always here to support and encourage you to participate in an abundance of

[?n'k?r?d?] [?n ??b?nd?ns]

extra-curricular activities such as spring outing activities ,cultural and sports activities, and so on to

['ekstr? k?'r? kj?l?(r)]

enrich your life experience.

All in all, I hope an entertaining semester is coming for you.

[??nt??ten??]

Thank you for listening and I hope all of you have a successful semester.

A good beginning is half done.

Well begun is half done.

Nothing in the world is difficult for anyone who sets his mind to it.

Where there is a will ,there is a way.

良好的开端是成功的一半。

良好的开端是成功的一半。

对于那些坚定的人,世界上没有什么是困难的。

有志者事竟成。

Has the Internet narrowed or increased the distance between people? Why? ----Bu Yang 2002 (决赛2分钟)

OK.

I'm gonna first tell you a story. Last year, I was working for a media company. Whenever I check my e-mail in the office, I get a lot of e-mails from all around the world. I get e-mails from people who live on the other side of the globe, from the other side of the earth, but I also get e-mails from people who's just sitting on the other side of my office. I bring up this example because I believe it shows well the advantages and disadvantages the Internet serves as a tool for people communicating. Of course, if two people are very distant away from one another, when they are very far away from one another, e-mail is a very important powerful tool. The Internet serves as a very good powerful tool. If you need to tell the other person something, you just type in words and write an e-mail. And then, within seconds, the e-mail is sent to the other side of the earth. That's, of course, very powerful. But when people are sitting so close, they are living so close to one another, it's not a large distance, we shouldn't use Internet so much as a communicating tool. Take my example that I mentioned earlier, employers, they have to send e-mails back and forth even when they are sitting in the same office, when they are supposed to walk just a few steps away and tell the other person what they would like to tell them. But they, instead, send e-mails. And we have to check the e-mail every now and then because every five minutes or every ten minutes we get information to tell us what we are supposed to do. Of course, what this will lead us to is low efficiency when you are working, also not concentrated when you are working. It also leads to a communication breakdown.

What do you think of cosmetic surgery? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

-----Hu Minxia 2003 (决赛1分钟)

It’s an interesting topic, isn’t it? Here firstly, I would like to define cosmetic surgery. By cosmetic surgery, we exclude those who are severely injured or burned and have to receive medical treatments. We only refer to those who are physical healthy and just want to look better by deliberately seeking thing. First, to be natural is beautiful,. We should cherish what has been given to us and we should value our uniqueness. Just imagine, if every man in the world looks like David Beckham, and if every woman looks like Princess Diana, what a horrible world it would be! And secondly, I would say, to be healthy is to be beautiful. How properly we can sleep, we can eat, and how

much exercises we do, and also what kind of life style we live is more important than surgeries.

Thank you.

General statement

God never made an ordinary human being.

----------Yu Li 2005 (半决赛3分钟) Thank you all.

In the Old Testament of Holy Bible, Chapter Number 1 the Genesis, we are told that God made Adam in his own image, and endowed with him the omnipotence, the potentiality of that divinity in tem. And from the barbaric and primitive stage to a now prosperous society, and from the abyss of darkness and ignorance to the dis, we see a lot of people with intelligence, and from that kind of darkness to a now the night dodges with lights, God has seen us through all the vicissitudes of life. But in the 21st century, will god still endow with us superpower, will god still see us through, what will follow? But I think god has definitely gave us seven gifts.

First and foremost is passion. Passion is the real power and drive for us to from, for us to see us through and witness us form the very early age to our maturity.

Second is humor. Humor gave us power to laugh over all the set backs and failures so that we can draw a lesson from them.

The third is fortitude. As is found out in mountain climber who had weathered the storm and see the beautiful sky with the exposure to the majestic look around him unfettered by that kind of confinements, you mean, you know what kind of fortitude you have.

The fourth is poise. Poise is the readiness to accept any change, to, so you will not get perplexed and disturbed by the fast changes in society, the pace we will be catch up with.

The fifth is style. Style means you have not only been a manufacturing power house, but you have that dimension of literature, that kind of wealth, of spring of mental wealth.

The sixth is individuality. That’s why we are making this speech. So we are different. And that’s what makes me extraordinary, made me extra-ordinary.

The seventh is passion. Right, you got passion again. Because passion in twice as importance as much as anything else. Without passion, I’m standing here I would like, make a speech like automation.

And in retrospect, we see many moving stories, from zero to hero, from underdog to super achievers, from Cinderella to fabulous-look queen. And that is god just imitating to us confide in a little story that, “Hey, guys, you’re not an ordinary human being because you are the image of me.” And I think blessed with that divinity, we can make any miracle a reality.

Thank you very much.

Quotation

No one has ever become poor by giving. ----Anne Frank

----Yan shu, 2006 (半决赛3分钟)

Thank you, hostess!

Ladies and gentlemen, to start my speech, I want to ask you a very simple question first. How to become rich, to rob a bank , or to marry a very rich woman, or that we can buy lottery so that we stand a chance to become rich overnight? But the chance is very small.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to share with you my opinions on this topic, and tell you the secret of how to become rich. We can become rich by giving. But everybody may not accept my ideas in this way. Some of them may think we become poor by giving.

But ladies and gentlemen, we should all know that even though everyone of us live a different life, every one of us are bound to go from point A to point B. So what is point A? Point A is the cradle, and point B is the grave. I do believe that living in this world we’ll only need adequate food and a descent bed to sleep. That is what we really need to live a really comfortable life. We don’t need so much money. What use? Remember the great philosopher of Doagenes, the father of cynicism. He told us that worldly possessions would not make us rich but make us fall into the constant worry of losing them. Ladies and gentlemen, Francis Bacon told us, “If money not be our servant, it will be our master.” So, giving will not make us poor, but having much money and to be a millionaire sometimes is not the real sense of being rich.

And secondly we can become rich by giving. Just how? We have to talk about what is really important in one’s life. As I believe personal friendships and also experience are important in one’s life. I believe friendship is like a seed. You first put them in a nurturing soil so that it can grow and it takes time and watering and devotion to wait the seed to grow into a splendid sheltering prime. And we have to devote to our friendship so that we know our friends better. When we are joyful, when we succeed, we can share our success and our joy with our friens. Those joys will be multiplied and become more joys. How rich you are!

And also personal experiences are very important to make one rich. We can become rich in this way by giving. Thomas Edison has invented thousands of great inventions in this world, greatly accelerating the human history and civilization. How much and how many has he given us? He never became poor. His great experience has enriched his life as well as mankind’s lives

Ladies and gentlemen, I want to say one sentence and quoted Hemingway once said. “Kindness is a hard thing to give away. It always returns to the giver.” Let us hold this notion and this faith in our heart, and you will all become millionaires and billionaires.

Thank you!

Cartoon Picture

We are looking for a few good people to teach our kids here! Do any of you have a teaching certificate?

----- Wang Jing (半决赛3分钟)

Well, this picture is really thought-provoking, and this makes me think about two questions: what is the real certificate for a good teacher? And in our society, what kind of teachers do we need?

Well, as for the first point, I want to define a good teacher in my mind. I think a good teacher should be, first and foremost, a good thinker. You see, William Shakespeare, Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin are standing in the crowd. They don’t have a teaching certificate, but with their independent thinking, as well as great virtue, they are influencing the world continuously. Abraham Lincoln, with his emancipation and proclamation, has taught the world to respect each other despite that you have different skin color, eye color and different nationalities. And also, Benjamin Franklin has kept telling us we need to be strong and self-dependent. These are great thinkers and these are great teachers.

And secondly, a good teacher should be a teacher with deep love for others. Mother Teresa, as you see in the middle of the crowd, as well as Jesus Christ and also Annie Sullivan, I think she is maybe behind the crowd. They are all people continuously supporting others with their deep love. Mother Teresa fifty years ago has set up a campaign to help those people suffering from HIV/AIDS. And the former president of France, Jacques Chirac, could best conclude her life in her funeral. He said some words like this, “Tonight, there’s less light, less love and less compassion in this world.” These are the people with deep love and continuously supporting others. They set a moral model for every one of us, teaching us to love each other and also make the world more harmonious. So these are the best teachers in my eyes.

However, in today’s society, especially in today’s universities, we pay too much attention to people’s career and also people’s career skills instead of looking at the expression, and the emotion in the heart of human beings, all of these great virtues. So I think a teaching certificate may be something, but it’s not every thing. We need learn from those great men and great women about the great virtues, about those great qualities, so as to make ourselves a qualified global citizen, trusted friend to fulfill our goals.

Host: Now in the age of the Internet, reading books does not seem as important as it once was. Do you think people can learn as much on the Internet as they can by reading books? Which method do you prefer?

Cao Feng: Thank you very much. And hello again ladies and gentlemen. Actually, I don’t really agree with the first sentence of this topic: “In the age of Internet, reading books is not as important as it was once.”

Why? Why is it the case? Why is it the situation, ladies and gentlemen? Actually,

Internet or books are just like tea or coffee. They are similar, but they are different.

University students nowadays love to use the Internet to search for information when they are working with their essays. Like, last semester, when I was working with my physics essay, I logged into Google and I searched for “NEWTON” and all the laws and theories of Newton just popped out and I can choose whichever one I like to use. But when I walked into the library, all the books came out and I have to choose which one to read. How inconvenient!

Maybe you can say at this moment, “Oh, Internet is better, books no use.” So I have to use Internet, right? But let’s see the things in another way.

I love traveling a lot and I love to bring a book with me. And I love to read my Da Vinci Code when I was having my trip on a bus or on a ship. Actually, whenever it is, wherever you go, whatever you are doing, you can take out a book and read if you feel like doing so. Now who will bother to take a laptop and switch it on, and search for the Internet connection, and look for stories to read. How inconvenient~

So at this very moment I think it’s quite dangerous for me, because I think I’m, unable to answer the question in the topic “Which method do you prefer, Internet or books?” because I love the feeling of conjuring a hundred pages of Harry Potter, more than scrolling down the screen; but at the same time I love the feeling of searching the things, the speed of my searching for things on the Internet, more than wasting my time in the library.

So in this age of Internet, in this age of modernization, in this age of civilization, why do you have to force someone to choose between Internet and books? I prefer using both of them. Thank you very much.

Host: Euthanasia is a way of relieving ill people’s pain and saving them from the tortures of their illness. Do we have power to take people’s lives for this reason? Or should the right to die be considered a “right” for terminally ill patients?

“When I am dead, my dearest,

Sing no sad songs for me.

Plant thou no roses at my head,

No shady cypress tree.

Be the green grass above me

With showers and dewdrop wet.

And, if thou wilt, remember.

And, if thou wilt, forget.”

For many, death is not frightening. For many, death is beautiful. For many, suffering from incurable deadly diseases, death is a longing. But no matter what they think, we can’t make the decision for them.

Death is their own business. Whether for good intention or bad, if we decide to take another person’s life, it’s murder. We take it for granted that people suffering from long terminal diseases, want to die. Perhaps it might be so in some cases but hoe are

we to tell? We can’t make decision for others.

Many old people, suffering from Alzheimer’s, seem to be living a most pitiable life to us. They no longer even recognize the beloved ones around them. But perhaps they’re enjoying their life, because they are now cut off from any worldly affairs and problems. They are kind of reliving their childhood. They are, perhaps, enjoying it. We can’t terminate their life.

Some people, suffering from cancer, seem to be living most painful life to us, what with all these torturing treatments and the prospect of death in front of them. But perhaps, deep down in their heart, they want to go on, they want to live, they want to fight, they want to feel every bit of sunshine on earth, and hear the pitter patter of rain in spring.

Some people, vegetable people, can’t express themselves, and to us they are not see life conquering death. And, besides, miracles do happen now and then. There are cases that, when a vegetable person is wakened from his long slumber by love and caring. If we rob him of that chance, we are committing murder. We are extinguishing hope. If we make the right to take another person’s life away illegally, I shudder to think what the consequences will be. Perhaps some family, tired of taking care of an old person, might get rid of him for that reason. Perhaps a family full of daughters, sons, granddaughters, grandsons, gaping at the inheritance, will want to get rid of the old person for that reason. I really shudder to think the consequences. No!

If I want to die, it’s my own business. No one is going to take that decision for me. Yes, death might be a beautiful journey after the experience we have on earth, but I don’t want to be hurried onto that journey by anybody else. If I am determined…my life is terminated by another person, I will rise from my grave and haunt that person, “…and he will always feel the shadows, he will always feel the rain, and he will always hear the nightingale weep on, as if in pain.”

Thank you.

Wu Xiangchen

Host: Contestant No.16, it’s been said that technology creates more problems than it solves and may threaten or damage the quality of life. Is this statement reasonable? What problems does technology bring us? Use specific examples in your answer, please.

Wu Xiangchen: Thank you. I guess most of you have seen the movie Terminator. I want to make avery bad prophet that human being will one day be terminated by our own technology.

People all say that Shakespeare is the greatest writer in this world. I think from this aspect, we can learn that, that the first killer of our future is computers.

You can think that you may be able to read thousands of reasons for Shakespeare’s success, but beyond these thousands of reasons I want to say Shakespeare succeeded to be the greatest writer simply because Shakespeare has no Microsoft Word process to do his works. Shakespeare correct every single line of his

composition of his work by his own hand. And that is why Shakespeare can be the greatest writer and will always be remembered by us.

People always say that Mozart is the greatest composer in this world . You may also raise thousands of reasons for Mozart’s success. But I want to say, beyond all these reasons, it is simply for the reason that Mozart had no MP3 to download songs from the Internet to listen to. Mozart trust his own ears. He listens to every single sound that a piano produced. So that is the reason why Mozart can be the greatest composer.

And people say that Picasso is the greatest painter in this world. You may also raise thousands of reasons for Picasso’s success. But I want to tell you that, beyond these reasons, it is because that Picasso had no Photoshop software to use to produce his pictures. Picasso correct every single line that he had drawn with his own hand and that is the way how he succeeded.

And finally, I want to tell you that computers bring us automation and the automation will be the final terminator of human being.

We have automatic washing machine. You put a piece of dirty clothes into a washing machine and you just simply press one button and your clothes is cleaned and ironed. We have dish washers. You put dirty dishes into a dish washer and just after ten minutes all the dishes are clean and have a very nice smell. And now scientists are intending to produce automatic automobiles. You simply just press one button and the car takes you to wherever you want, without driving.

But if we allow this going on, maybe in the future a pig comes along and simply press on button and conquer the entire human world. I’m not exaggerating! Technology brings us power, but we are not ready to seize this power------just like you give a machine gun to a ten-year-old child. So before we develop our technology, we’d better grow up first. Thank you for that.

Jiang Chunhui

Hosts: Contestant No11. I don’t’ know if you own any stocks or not, but people who buy stocks and want to “get-rich-quick” deserve to lose their money. They are lazy and just don’t want to work like the rest of us. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why or Why not?

Thank you.

I think I strongly disagree with this statement. I think it’s bad enough they’re losing money. It’s even worse if we call them lazy. And I have two reason to back up my opinion.

The first of all is that, as we all know the CPI number of China this year in February is nearly nine percent, which is three times that of the three percent which is considered the safety line against inflation internationally. And the salary, in relative, is not going anywhere. And as w all know, a decent house to live in, in major cities of China, usually cost more than one million yuan, which means the young graduates

from college and university would have a need to get rich quickly or they would have to work hard.. I mean, a couple of them would have work hard and save any penny possible and live a life like ants for 15 or even 20tears just to get a place to live in the city. A lot of the young graduates invest whatever money they have into the stock market, not because they are greedy or they want to make fast money so they can live a luxurious life, it’s because they want to realize their dream to have a place to live in the city and have a decent place to call “home”. It’s bad enough that their dream is shattered. If we call them lazy, I think it further breaks their heart.

And the second point is that I don’t know if any of you realize his you are paying taxes when you buy in or out a stock, in or out of the market. That’s called “stamp tax”, which was, by the way, tripled by the government last year, and leads to an extra-budget income for the government of a hundred and twenty billion yuan. The money is going to be used in welfare, in medical insurance and in education, which are all good things for us. And let’s not forget, in the past two years, when the stock market is going up and those people are making money, they’re paying income tax for whatever money they make. That money is also used for public affairs. So I think it is not only immoral but also a little bit caused by jealousy to call them lazy just because they’re losing money now.

And I think what we should do, instead of calling them lazy, is to set up a functional and sound system to educate the people, to make them fully aware or at least more than they are now, there is a chance they’re going to lose money in the stock market, and the chance is big. So be rational with your money and invest it wisely. I think, by the way, this is a good chance to introduce the system of investment consultancy into China, which is advanced service system, because, in America, before the sub-prime mortgage crisis, everybody, although they have this system, nobody’s looking for this, and now that, in an instant everybody’s looking for investment consultancy. And since the same thing is happening in China, I think it’s a good chance for us to make use of it and then introduce the system into China. And with that, people will invest their money more wisely and hopefully the stock market can recover from its recent plunge, catch an up going and stable and healthy current, which will work out well for everybody. Thank you very much.
