The Adventures of Tom Sawyer英文读后感

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Recently I read a book which is called “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.It is one of the best known novels by the famous American writerMark Twain. It is a story of a clever boy called Tom Saywer.

Tom Sayweris a naughty boy, he does not like study in the school or get up in the morning. Which he likes are fishing, swimming and having adventures with friends. His adventures are interesting but dangerous.

I think it is Tom Saywerthat made the book become a classic work. Tom is a naughty boy, and he is a brave boy, too. He always encourages his friends when they are in trouble. And he always tries his best to help other people. He is a hero in some degree. Form this story, I realized that we are supposed to be kind and we should help our friends. Or we will be punished by God ,just like InjunJoe, who starves to death in the cave.

On the one hand , every one of us needs friends, so that we can rely on each other, help each other. Friendship and opened the atrium of each of us, let us feelings of love and light. Friendship is a bridge between people, the communication of each other's feelings, let us understand each other. With friendship, we are no longer alone, we can tell each other their feelings. Therefore, friendship is important.

On the other hand, everyone needs help sometimes :when a child is lost ;when an old man falls down ;when a blind person needs to walk across the street ...They are anxious and helpless. In such situation ,ifwe give them a hand, which may be for us a piece of cake but for them ,it means a lot :they will feel warm from the society and they will help others when they can ,the warm can be passed one by one.And we will also feel warm and happy when we see the others' smile. So helping others means a lot for a person ,for a country ,for a society, let us give the helping hand when the others need help.

This term I read the book named The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It was written by Mark Twain, one of America’s most beloved humorists and storytellers.

When talking about Twain’s most famous novels, Hannibal is the focus of all the topics. Hannibal, a small Mississippi River town, which would become the model for St. Petersburg, the fictionalized setting of Twain’s two most popular novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, in general, is a significant literary departure for Twain. Twain toned down the large-scale social satire that characterized many of his earlier works, choosing instead to depict the sustained development of a single, central character. Originally, Twain had intended for the novel to follow Tom into adulthood and conclude with his return to St. Petersburg after many years away. But he was never capable to get his hero out of his teens, however, and the novel ends with its protagonist still preparing to make the transition into adult life.

Who’s Tom Sawyer? This is the first question that comes up in my mind when I met the book at the first sight. When the novel begins, Tom is a mischievous child who envies Huck Finn’s lazy lifestyle and freedom. As the novel proceeds, however, critical moments show Tom moving away from his childhood concerns and making mature, responsible decisions. While, by the end of the novel, Tom is coaxing Huck into staying at the Widow Douglas’s, urging his friend to accept tight collars, Sunday school, and good table manners. He is no longer a disobedient character undermining the adult order, but a defender of responsibility and respectability. In the end, growing up for Tom means embracing social custom and sacrificing the freedoms of childhood.

When mentioned about the theme of the novel, a good majority of would say “Twain complicates Tom’s position on the border between childhood and adulthood by ridiculing and criticizing the values and practices of the adult world toward which Tom is heading”. For my point of view, I would rather accept the idea that it is just novel which talking about how Tom grows up. Because I can easily find own experience of growing up from Tom’s Adventures.

I used to be a naught girl who always causes a lot of trouble. I did a great deal of things that really forced me into trouble. I ignored the love from my parents, my relatives, my friends and my teachers. I hated the school life and always secretly escaped from school hunting for fun. I set myself alone and just did what I wanted and never took others’ feelings into consideration. I can hardly remember how long it lasted, but I was deeply surprised when I was caught by the disappointed eyesight of my family. It’s not until my 16 that I tried to make changes. At time I failed my entrance exam to the senior school. I wasn’t accepted by school that I yearn for it. I was in deep blue at that time. A long time thinking, I made up my mind to work hard so that I could realize my dream. It was the first time that I recognized that I should be responsible for my own. I began to study in high school. I took part in the competition that interested me. I did all what I can to realize my dream. Changes were made on me.

Tom Sawyer draws my mind back to my childhood and my teens. I was deeply impressed by what I did when I was young. One can never truly grow up only if he/she has experienced some problems. Tom’s Adventures made me understand the idea of life better. No one born without weakness, but we can make the changes happen and make our own in the procedure of prefect.
