傲慢与偏见读后感(英文)

It is atruth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a goodfortune must be in want of a wife. Mr. Bingley and Darcy were all singlemen with good fortune. At the same time Elizabeth Bennet had five daughtersthat had not got married. Mr. Bingley fell in love with the first daughter whowas very gentle and beautiful. Darcy, his friend loved the second daughtercalled Elizabeth. However, days never went down smoothly. There was a young militaryofficer, Wayne. He was mischief- maker. Elizabeth was so stupidthat she believed in what Wayne said and produced prejudice to Darcy. Therefore, the marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth developedvery slowly. Luckily, aftera period of interesting twists and turns, the misunderstandingswere eliminated in the end. Darcy got over his pride. Meanwhile,Elizabeth alsogot over her prejudice to Darcy. Finally, they lived together. However, the twenty-seven-year old Charlotte married to Collins who only made friend with her for threedays. The only reason was that Collins had much money. How ridiculous it was! Lydiawas a girl who was frivolous. After she eloped with Wayne, with the help of Darcy, they got married finally.

My favoritecharacter in this book is the second daughter, Elizabeth. Sheis an intelligent, honest, and educated young lady. She was good at thinkingabout something on her own. Browsing the book, you will find many wisdom wordssaid by her. Such as, Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through, andI am very sorry to have caused you pain. It was unconsciously done.

She had not only beautiful appearance, but also nicemind. She was angry at Darcy for her sister. Though she was born in amiddle-class family, she was well-educated and very brilliant. She is notemotional but rational for her marriage. It is difficult for a young lady. At thesame time, she never equated marriage to money. If I lived in the same timewith her, I would become the enemy of Darcy, because I am sure I will fall inlove with Elizabeth. There was a very interesting detailing description. When Elizabeth travelledto a park with her uncle, Gardiner, she came across Darcy. The communication betweenDarcy and Gardiner made her very happy. He felt that Darcy should know that herfolks were not people with bad behaviors. It showed that she had been careabout Darcy’s feeling. She also had a little vanity. However,it did not doharm to her figure. On the contrary, it made me feel cute and real.

From the book, I gained some important truth. When wewalk in the road of running after love, we should insist on our belief. It isso stupid for us to make decision without enough thinking, just for money and unrealhonor. If the other side has some disadvantages that we cannot stand for them,we ought to choose giving up without hesitation. Of course, we need to valueeach other, not changing your decision easily due to others’ several words. Happinessis in my own hands for good.

If I come across a good girl in college campus, I will showmy love to her without any hesitation.

第二篇:Pride and Prejuice《傲慢与偏见》英文读后感

Reading after Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is a very classic book written by Jane Austen. She was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her realism and biting social commentary has gained her historical importance among scholars and critics.

Pride and Prejudice described a story that the Bennet family had five daughters. Mrs. Bennet hoped all her daughters can marry with rich and prestigious noblemen. Jane Bennet, the eldest Bennet sister, fell in love with Charles Bingley , a handsome, good-natured, and wealthy young gentleman of 22, who rented Netherfield Park near Longbourn the first time she met him. Elizabeth Bennet, the protagonist of the novel and the second of the Bennet daughters, deeply prejudiced Mr. Darcy at first, the male protagonist of the novel, who was also the wealthy owner of the famous family and a good friend of Charles Bingley. However, Mr. Darcy should propose to Elizabeth. There was no doubt that Elizabeth refused his marriage proposal resolutely, which struck his pride. Then Elizabeth’s sister Lydia was cheated by George Wickham and run off with him, which made the Bennet worried a lot. Mr. Darcy offered help secretly and found Lydia finally, which made Elizabeth appreciate to him very much and admire him. In the end, Darcy overcame his pride, and Elizabeth overcame her prejudice, leading to them both surrendering to the love

they had for each other.

They are many characters in this story, so I want to introduce and analyze some characters those important and typical I think. The leading role Elizabeth Bennet was intelligent, lively, attractive and witty but with a tendency to judge on impression and perhaps to be a little upon which she based on her judgments. As the plot begins, her closest relationships were with her father; her sister, Jane; her aunt, Mrs. Gardiner; and her best friend, Charlotte Lucas. As the story progressed, so did her relationship with Mr. Darcy, who belonged to a higher social class than Elizabeth. She also had a spirit of resistance. For example, when she refused William Collins’ proposal, her mother asked her to promise. But she had the courage to anti her mother and looked for her true love. Fortunately, her father supported her firmly.

Mr. Darcy, another leading role, was handsome, tall, and intelligent, but rather anti-social, his aloof decorum and rectitude were seen by many people as an excessive pride. He made a poor impression on strangers, such as the landed gentry of Meryton, but was valued by those who knew him well. In my opinion, he was cold in his appearance but hot in his heart.

Mr. Bennet was the patriarch of the Bennet family, a gentleman of modest income with five unmarried daughters. He had a sarcastic, cynical sense of humor that he used to purposefully irritate his wife. Though he

loved his daughters (Elizabeth in particular), he often failed as a parent, preferring to withdraw from the never-ending marriage concerns of the women around him rather than offered help. Mrs. Bennet was the wife of her social superior Mr. Bennet and mother of Elizabeth and her sisters. She was frivolous, excitable, and narrow-minded, and she imagined herself susceptible to attacks of tremors and palpitations. Her public manners and social climbing were embarrassing to Jane and Elizabeth. Her main ambition in life was to marry her daughters off well.

Jane Bennet was considered the most beautiful young lady in the neighborhood. Her most notable trait was a desire to see only the good in others. Jane was closest to Elizabeth. She was favored by her mother because of her beauty. She grew to be in love with Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bingley, I guess, was contrasted with his friend Mr. Darcy as being kinder and more charming and having more generally pleasing manners, although not quite so clever. He lacked resolve and was easily influenced by others.

Different people have different views on the novel of pride and prejudice. Chapter 34, I think, is the most exciting plot. It happened in a rainy day when Darcy expressed his feelings to Elizabeth. Darcy said, “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” How moving it was! But Elizabeth refused his proposal. Especially when

Elizabeth comment Mr. Darcy that his manners impressing her with the fullest belief of his arrogance, his conceit, and his selfish disdain of the others, Mr. Darcy changed color. She even said, “You are the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry.” Then it was end with fierce debate.

As the saying goes, there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. So, we can have a different view to analyze a question or an article. As far as I’m concerned, I think we can never judge others by their first appearance. In most cases, first impression is not true. But I don’t mean first impression is not important. Just like Elizabeth’s prejudice made her misunderstand Darcy and trust George Wickham easily. If we want to know somebody, we must get along with him or her for a long time. Because time reveals a person’s heart. And we can never listen to others’ judgments on a people. Because it may mislead our own judgments. We need to use our own eyes and hearts.

All in all, Pride and Prejudice is a very excellent and classic book for us to read. Not only can I promote my English skills, but I can learn a lot about life, love, marriage and so on. More importantly, it teaches me that I shouldn’t judge a person by his/her first appearance.
