对初中英语作业评语运用的探讨

【摘 要】:让英语作业的评语成为学生学习英语过程中的一种重要激励,让学生树立起充分的学习英语自信心,持续性地产生学习英语的成就感,不断开发学生学习英语的潜能。让学生在作业过程中也能充分享受到学习英语的乐趣,让学生始终保持一种创新、可持续发展的隐形的良好学习状态。

多元性评价是新课程标准评价的要求,而作业的评价语言是这多元评价过程中的一环重要环扣。让英语作业的评语成为学生学习英语过程中的一种重要激励,让学生树立起充分的学习英语自信心,持续性地产生学习英语的成就感,不断开发学生学习英语的潜能。让学生在作业过程中也能充分享受到学习英语的乐趣,让学生始终保持一个创新、可持续发展的隐形的良好学习状态。这不仅是新课程标准对英语教学的要求,也是当代素质教育对广大一线英语教师的教育教学的要求。

首先我们从奥斯丁的两次实验来看一看作业评语的重要性。

19xx年奥斯丁(Austin)做了这样一个实验。他把高中教学班的学生随机分成两组,并对其中一个组的学生的作业全部予以评分,而对另一个组的学生的作业只随机地抽取一半给予评分。七周后,他发现两组学生的成绩并没有什么差别。 19xx年奥斯丁拓展了这项研究。他把高中教学班的学生同样随机分成两组,对其中一组学生的作业不加说明地判出分数,而对另一组学生的作业不仅给出分数,而且还加写评语,用以赞扬或鼓励学生。后来经过检测,加写评语的学生的平均成绩高于没加评语的学生。

这两次实验显而易见地说明了中小教育中普遍存在的单纯的分数评价已 1

不太适合评价的需要。它只是对知识内容进行评价,而对学生在学习知识、完成作业过程中相伴而生的目的、心态、方法等并没有直接评价。相反对学生作业的短语评价的做法则更加有效果。

在英语教学中,大多数的英语教师往往都会不自觉地忽视了对学生作业的评语及它的重要作用。在翻开学生的作业本时,看到的多是简单的钩钩和叉叉(圈圈),或分数(五分制、十分制或百分制),或等级(A、B、C…)。几乎没有出现具有人文性的只字片语,至多是千篇一律的All right, OK或Good。在新课程改革以来,许多英语教师在不断努力地致力于改进教学方法、方式和手段,把大量的时间用于备课、课堂教学、作业的布臵与批改等,却忽略了对学生的作业批改的评语适时得当地运用。作业评语是英语教学中的一个重要环节之一,有其自身的特点和功能。

教师通过作业来练习和检验学生所学的知识点和书面表达的掌握程度。所以教师多使用恰当的作业评语可以提高学生的书面理解和表达能力。在课堂上教师面对的是全班学生,在有限的课堂时间内不可能逐一对每位学生进行细致的评价。而教师在批改作业时所面对的是每一位个体差异的学生的作业,就便于因材施教,个别指导。可以说,评语可弥补课堂教学的不足,是师生对话、相互沟通和反馈的一种重要方式之一。有利于沟通师生之间的情感,调动学生的学习积极性;同时它能让学生及时地、清楚地了解自己作业中的优缺点,进而了解自己在英语学习过程中所存在的不足与问题,这样可以促使他们及时调整学习计划和学习方法,这样可以促进学生良好的学习习惯的养成。学生阅读作业评语是对语言的实际运用。因为教师在评语中所使用的语言是有实际内容的,即对某个学生及其作业的具体情况所进行的分析或评价,所以很容易被学生理解、接受或效仿。以下笔者谈谈自己在实践中的几点心得:

一、作业评语必须符合学生的实际水平

作业评语是写给学生看的,所以一方面所使用的语言应该与学生的语言水平相当,并能符合学生的个性心理发展需求。另一方面要做到循序渐进,由易到难,能够起到"跳一跳,摘到桃子"的作用,也就是说学生通过上下文的猜测或借助于词典就能理解。例如:It's very clever of you to do so. /You've done a good job./ You are doing wonderfully! /It's nice of you to write this way./Wonderful! Your English is very good and your answers are correct. /I'm sure you can do your work better next time. 等等。

二、作业评语要有助于学生对所学知识的理解和记忆

语言的学习在于运用,所以教师在写评语时应运用所学的知识,以使学生能加强理解和记忆。例如:You have improved a lot. I am proud of you./ That's great. Please never give up trying. Success comes through hard work and constant effort. /No pains, no gains .I hope you will make more progress in the future. /What good work! You are the pride of our class. / Work harder, and you will make more progress. /The harder you work, the sooner you will improve. /Come on! I am sure you will catch up soon. 利用所学过的短语、句型和时态给学生写评语就能取得很好效果,可以帮助学生巩固和运用语言。

三、评语有利于激发学生的学习热情

学生有被尊重、被表扬、被认可的需要。在完成作业过程中,希望得到教师的表扬和鼓励,这是学生精神上的需求。如果精神上的需求长久得不到满足,他们就会产生消极的学习情绪,进而产生厌学情绪。因此,需求是学生学习行为的动力之一。需求的满足直接影响学生积极性的发挥,要充分发挥学生的积 3

极性,对学生进行有效地鼓励是教育的策略之一。激励就是激发鼓励。一般地讲,激励就是以某种刺激为引诱,调动人的主动性、积极性和创造性。教师的评语就是刺激学生的诱因。学生有不同的性格,有不同的需求,那么激励的方法也不同。教师针对不同的学生及其作业,在不同场合所作的评语可激发学生的学习热情,让优等生更上一层楼,使中等生改正缺点、发扬优点,使暂时落后的学生能克服畏惧心理,树立信心。所以,对优等生的作业表扬中要有指正,教师可通过评语向他们提出更高要求。例如:

Excellent. You haven't made any mistakes, but do try to make your handwriting neater. / It's good to be correct .It's also important to be creative.

对中等生的作业要慎重评价,在评语中要多督促.。因为这一类学生往往就缺少那么一点"推动力",如推一推就上去了,松一松便下来了。例如: You'd better be more careful! Pay more attention to the tenses. Work harder and then you'll make much progress!

有些学生比较马虎,经常犯拼写错误。对于这类不大不小的问题,一个个批改不仅费力而且没有必要,但也不能视而不见,提出要求是良方。例如: Your work is quite good except for a few spelling mistakes. (Try to spell you r words correctly. Avoid misspelling!)

适当地给一则相关的谚语也未尝不可。例如:

Keep it up. Remember that little by little one goes far.

A stitch in time saves nine.

每一个学生都希望得到教师的特别关注,而学困生更是如此。对于学困生的作业要多点激励,经常得到教师作业评语的学生,能从其中感受到教师真诚而独 4

特的爱,从而会产生一种独特的情感动力,促使成绩进步;另外温和地指出错误的同时,也要指出他的优点及时给予鼓励。例如:

Tim,I've found your handwriting is better than before. Thank you! Bob, you've made so many mistakes but do better next time. Billy, I think you can do better if you work a little harder.

Jenny, be a careful girl and you'll make greater progress. 一份学困生的作业中可能有各种各样的语法错误,但是主要内容也许很好或书法很不错,如被全部地划叉或判为零分,这就如同倒洗澡水把孩子也一起倒掉了一样。而评语则可以起到去粗取精之功用。例如:

I find you're good at expressing yourself. Avoid making too many mistakes in grammar./You meant well, but try to make your sentences correct.

中学生在学习英语的过程中,最大的难题就是动词及其用法。他们往往混用时态,在叙述的时候更是如此 。如:"It's Sunday morning. Father was taking Sandy to a park nearby their home. Sue stays a t home with mother. She was doing her homework..."这一段文字虽然时态混乱,但是内容不错,简单地否定或肯定都是不对的,轻则使学生茫然不知所措,重则挫伤他们的学习兴趣和积极性。比较好的方法 是向他们提出要求。例如:

Pay much attention to tenses! (Don't confuse one tense with another! If you take your story as a past event, use the PAST TENSE all the way; if you make your story seem to be taking place now, use the PRESENT TENSE. You can't use tense sat random!)。

四、作业评语可以体现和促进师生感情的交流

著名的前苏联教育学家凯洛夫说:“感情有着极大的鼓舞力量。”作业不仅是师生间教学信息的相互反馈,而且是联系和沟通师生感情的桥梁。从作业中教师可以觉察到学生的思想和自主学习情况,从评语中学生也能领悟出教师对他是否关心、有信心和责任心。因此我们要充分利用作业评语加深师生情感交流。评语言辞恳切,切中要害;或热情鼓励、或委婉告诫??始终使学生保持清醒的头脑、强烈的兴趣、昂扬的斗志,激励并坚定他们"青出于蓝而胜于蓝"的信念。通过评语,教师尽可把祝福、问候、关切、激励、真诚、信任之情化作甘甜的泉水,去滋润学生的心田,引起师生教与学的共鸣,达到教与学两者的和谐与统一。

例如:

A)如学期开始,对于差生的作业评语中应多几分激励。

●Jenny, you've made some silly mistakes in your homework. A new term begins now. I want you t o work harder than last term just from the beginning. Cheer up! A good beginning makes a good ending.

B)给中等生的作业评语中最好有一些督促。

●Mark, you made much progress last term. However, you should work still harder this term. Do you think so?

C)有些学生在某个语言点上一再犯错,如"It isn't belong to her."

采用一再划叉的处理办法,可能会无济于事,给以适当的批评和指正效果可能好些。如:

●Jack, it's wrong to say "It isn't belong to her." We say" It doesn't belong to her." "Belong" is a verb, like "go, look, talk..." We say "He doesn't go to school." Do we say "He isn't go to school"? No, never! 6

D)某次大考之前,在优秀生、中等生、学困生的作业上可以给予不同的评语,以鼓舞斗志。

●Andy, I wish you great success in the coming examinations.

Sandy, go over your lessons again and pay more attention to the verbs we've learned this term. Avoid making silly mistakes in your paper. Tom, make up the homework you've missed. Come to me if you find anything you can't under stand.

E)甚至某个学生在课堂上不注意听讲,而自尊心比较强,不宜在课堂上马上指出的,教师也可以在作业评语中提出劝告和建议。

●Kelly, you don't know how to do these exercises. In fact, they aren't so difficult. The reason is that you didn't listen carefully in class! F)学生因为考试不及格失去信心,教师就要及时地在试卷上写上一些激励的话,让他们从心灵深处感受到老师的真诚的关爱:

●I am sorry to see that you didn't pass the exam. I hope you are not too disappointed. I want to cheer you up with the saying" Failure is the mother of success". I hope to see much improvement in your future studies.

G)在节假日或学生生日前,教师可以给予学生一些祝愿语,让他们感到来教师对他们细致的关注和真切地感受到教师对他们的尊重:

●Merry Christmas!/Happy New Year!/Enjoy yourself in the coming holidays!/Happy birthday1/Many happy returns!

H)生病缺课作业完成得很糟糕,教师不是责备而是及时批上一些安慰的话语: ●Devin, you have made a few mistakes in your work. I know that is 7

because you were absent...I think it is only natural. Don't lose heart. I am ready to help you.

五、作业评语形式要丰富多彩

作业评语不仅仅是对作业本身进行评价,也可以包括学习和生活的各个方面,它的语言形式更是丰富多彩,千变万化,教师可以利用学生已学的单词、短语、句型、时态、 语态、语气或篇章结构等,也可以用即将接触的语言。这不仅可以评价作业,而且能帮助学生巩固和运用语言。例如:

1)单词:

Good! Nice! Great! Okay! Lovely! Perfect! Marvelous! Pleasant! Wonderful! Correct! Incorrect! Careless! Unclear! Untidy!

2.短语:

Very nice! Quite correct! Quite OK (Okay)! Neat and tidy! Well -done! Well-written! Just so-so. Far from correct. So careless!

3)句型:

A. That's all right! /That's OK. /That's wrong.

/That's incorrect!

B. It is clever of you to do so. /It's nice of you to say so. It's careless of you to write this way. /It's nice of you to write this way.

C. You've done so nicely. /You've made such a careless mistake! / You've done a good job.

D. What good work you've done! /What a good boy you are! How carefully you've worked! /How nice your work is! /You are doing wonderfully! E. Try to do better next time! /See what you've done! /Correct your 8

mistakes./Don't do that again! /Don't be so silly, John! /Let's try to say correct English, shall we? Don't make such a careless mistake again, will you?

F. I find you've made a lot of progress! /I think you can work more carefully next time. /I' m sorry you've made so many mistakes in your work. / I'm sure you can do your work better next time.

G. Your handwriting is not so nice as Maggie's. / You can do best of all if you try harder.

H. What do you think of your work? /How did you like your hand writing? /Isn't your work lovely?

H.You've done better than last time. /You can do better now than you did before. I. Your English is very good and your answers are correct.

4)时态:

A. John, you've done best of all in your class! /You've made so much progress!

B. You're doing nicely!

C. Your English will become better if you work harder.

D. Now you can do better than you did before.

E. You used to make a lot of mistakes in grammar, but now you do more correctly.

5)语态: A. You do your work well. /Your work is well done.

B. You have made great progress in English this term./Your English has been greatly improved this term.

6)语气:

A. Your English is excellent.

B. I wish you would work harder. /How I wish you would be more careful.

C. Pay attention to your spelling. /Keep on and on.

7)篇章:

Wendy, you always do well in English. But sometimes you are a little careless. You see, w hat you've done here. You've made such a funny mistake! I think you'll correct it. Try to do your work as carefully as you can. 有些教师可能认为,作业评语只是对作业本身进行评价,这是一种狭隘的观点。笔者认为,作业评语的内容也可以包括有关学生学习和生活的方方面面,其语言形式更可以千变万化。它们可以是: 一个词,例如:

Wonderful! (Perfect! Great! Neatly! ...)

一句话,例如:

Allan, what a clever boy you are! (How beautiful your work is! You've done so greatly! Isn't it good ...)

一则格言,例如:

Where there's a will, there's away. (Practice makes perfect. Time and tide waits for no man.)还可以是三言两语的描述或随感,或是提出几个带启发性的问题。只要能帮助学生提高运用英语的能力,掌握英语知识,激发他们的学习兴趣和积极性,无所不可涉及,各种句式都可运用。

最后笔者就作业评语会不会增加教师教学工作的负担谈本人的几点看法:

(一)表面上看起来,写作业评语比传统的作业批改增加教师的负担,而事实上正相反。传统的作业批改方法是"遇对必钩(√),有错必纠(×)",它既违背 10

语言生成和发展的规律,又有悖于启发式教学原则,长期以来师生不知为此浪费了多少时间和精力。

(二)教师并不一定每次给每个学生的作业写批语。作业评语不能过多、过滥,所谓过犹而不及。而且每次评语写多少要因时制宜,贵在坚持,注意连续性。只要每周能给每个学生写一、两次恰当的评语就能使他们始终保持清醒的头脑、 强烈的兴趣和昂扬的斗志。

结束语:

作业评语是课后教师与作为个体的学生进行信息、情感交流与反馈的有效方式和重要手段。作业评语是教师情感输出的载体,它体现教师对学生作业的意见和态度,体现教师对学生学习成果的认可或否定;作业评语是教师对学生作业和对学生的情感关注一种最合适和恬当的书面语言表达之一。它不仅可以加深师生情感交流,达到教与学两者的和谐与统一;而且还可以促进学生良好的英语学习习惯的养成,培养了学生的创新、可持续发展的终身学习能力的良好情绪。所以杜威的那句“情感的动力是最原始,但是最有效力的。”也许就是对英语作业的评语最好的一种人文性功能的诠释与概括了。
