Also, the understanding of the past is the same as those so called the 'secret of success', but in my opinion, to understand to past means you have better chance to win than you don't.

First, the understanding of the past can at least prevent you from making the same mistakes. We all have made some mistakes in our life, some of the people may remember and learn from the mistakes, others would just ignore them and may fail again for the same reason in the future. For example, I have a friend who didn't get a good result in his college entrance examination because he played the computer games at that time. After he went to the college, which is not a good one, he decided to stop playing the computer games. But unfortunately, he started to play again when he was going to attend the GRE, so he failed again. If he can learn from his past experience and work hard, he may now get his master degree. So it's very important to understand the past and not to fell into the same river twice.

Understanding the past can also provide us with some good methods or experience to solve the problem now or in the future. We may had some achievements in the past from which we could think about how we made it or why we could make it. If we have some experience or good methods, we can use them to solve the same problem that we may encounter in the future.

Finally, I think the past in some ways can reflect the future. We understand the past very well, we can foresee the future in some particular circumstance. For example, my father told me that in the past, there were few students can go to the college, most of them just go to work after finishing high school education. So it is very easy for college students to find a very good job after graduate. But now, nearly all the students go to the college, it was just like every students went to high school in the past, so it will be difficult for a college students to find a good job in the future. My father understand what happened twenty years ago so he can know what will happen in the future. Now I have to say what father says is right.

In conclusion, we have to admit that we are more likely to win if we understand the past because we can avoid the some bad things happened before, we have some valuable experience and most important, we may see what will happen in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, I side with the former for the following reasons.First, coming across some economic difficulties that need a large amount of money immediately, people who have good friends with plentiful money could go through the hard time easily with the help from friends.Take my family for example, my grandmother got an acute disease one night five years ago. After arriving at the hospital near our house, we were told that the operation must be done after we gathered enough money for it. We couldn't borrow enough money because it was too late, but the operation can't be delayed. Suddenly thinking of my uncle, a good friend of my father, my father called to him. Without an additional word, my uncle came to the hospital and solved the problem for my family. Through such a matter, the relationship between my father and his friend improved largely because he saved my grandmother when our family sank into a dangerous period. Second, friends who have the same interest with you and usually play with you may not real friends probably because they don't have the ability to guide you and provide a practical advice for you when you need them.
