在当今社会中，一个商人如果想要赚到钱，就必须努力工作，但是在几百年前的威尼斯，有一位商人叫夏洛克，他不是靠努力工作发财的，而是专门靠放高利贷发财。这个人就是这个>故事的主人公。

这个故事是英国伟大的剧作家和诗人莎士比亚写的，它的名字叫《威尼斯商人》，是一部具有极大讽刺性的喜剧。大约作于1596-1597年。>剧本的主题是歌颂仁爱、友谊和爱情，同时也反映了资本主义早期商业资产阶级与高利贷者之间的矛盾，表现了作者对资产阶级社会中金钱、法律和宗教等问题的人文主义思想。这部剧作的一个重要文学成就，就是塑造了夏洛克这一惟利是图、冷酷无情的高利贷者的典型形象。

故事的内容讲的是：威尼斯商人安东尼奥为了帮助好友巴萨尼奥向鲍西娅求婚，向犹太人高利贷者夏洛克借了三千金币。夏洛克因为安东尼奥借给别人钱不要利息，影响了他的生意，又侮辱过他，所以借机报复，在借约上戏言三个月期满还不上钱，就从安东尼奥身上割下一磅肉抵债。后来巴萨尼奥的求婚成功了，安东尼奥因船失事，所以不能如期还钱，夏洛克就提起公诉，要安东尼奥履行借约，从身上切下一磅肉。

开庭审判的那一天，鲍蒂霞假扮安东尼的律师，替安东尼辩护。她用聪明的办法，救了安东尼的性命，也惩罚了夏洛克：法庭判决只许割肉，不准流血，只准割一磅肉，不准多一点也不准少一点，即使是一丝一毫，也要诉讼者抵命。夏洛克惊愕之余要求撤回原诉，但鲍西娅依据法律，剥夺夏洛克全部财产，将其一半充公，将另一半判归受害一方，夏洛克彻底败诉。

看完了这个故事，我最喜欢作者塑造的安东尼奥这个人物，他是新兴的资产阶级的商人的代表，作者对他是有所美化的。他珍重友情，为了朋友而向高利贷者借钱并为此死而无怨；他宽宏大量，面对夏洛克的无耻阴谋，竟逆来顺受；面对死的威胁，他具有古罗马英雄那样临危不惧，视死如归的气概。总之，他身上具有正派，重情，温文尔雅等文艺复兴时期人文主义者为之沤歌的品质。

在我的脑海中想象着安东尼奥的样子：头戴一顶别着羽毛的帽子，穿着一套具有威尼斯地方特色的外衣，潇洒英俊，正直热情……

这个故事真实地告诉我们：钱财固然重要，一个人可以追求财富，但绝对不能做守财奴，因为在这个世界上还有比金钱更重要更珍贵的东西，也是多少钱都买不到的---那就是人与人之间的友谊、感情和一颗正直仁爱的心灵。

Shylock in The Merchant of Venice

I had learnt The Merchant of Venice in my text book before. I enjoyed myself to the full , I thought every ill man had his ill day. But after several years, I changed my original intention when I saw the film again. I felt sympathy for Shylock. When I was a little girl, I couldn’t understand The Merchant of Venice deeply. Because I knew little about it and I didn’t know racial discrimination how much influence to the Jewish. Jewish people oppressed too much.

As we known that the merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare’s most important works. It is a comedy. The theme of this play is to extol kindheartedness, friendship and love. And also it reflects the conflicts between the capitalists and usurers at the beginning of the capitalist society. And it expresses the author’s humanist idea on money, law and religion in capitalist society. This thesis analyzes the main figures in the play by using independent and contrast ways. It shows the heavily flavor of humanism at the beginning of capitalist society; and expresses some thoughts for society and human being. The thesis also makes a hard criticism to Shylock, who is a representative of feudalism, and puts a heavy humanism on Portia. It displays the thoughts of feudalism personality liberation, and stressing the great breakthrough of woman’s status and feminine consciousness in Elizabethan era.

In this play, Jew Shylock performs great greed for money. When he is resulted and treated unfair, he is brewing a strongly dissatisfaction to revenge the Christian and graceful gentleman and appealing for equal treatment. In fact, Shylock’s characteristic has many aspects. He is a usurer. He is avaricious and stingy. But he also has the pity point: being lost daughter; being humiliated by Antonio; being treated unfair in Christian society, and his endless miss for his wife. All of his role action has surpassed the friendship between Antonio and Bassanio, and the propagation of Christian by Portia. So in the thesis, the author argues Shylock not only as a curt, greedy and sly person, but also as a sympathetic figure.

Finally I learn that whenever you look anything could not stay in a surface. We must dialectical thinking .
