A review of “Front of the class”

Today we saw a movie titled “Front of the class”. “Front of the class” is adapted from the true story of Brand Cohen. With Tourette syndrome, Brand keeps making strange noises, which always brings him unfair treatment and prejudice from his classmates, teachers, interviewers, and even his father.

Despite these, what impresses me most is the fact that Cohen never stops chasing his dream of being a teacher. Although suffering from making odd noises, which may be generally considered to be vital to his dream, he never surrenders to his disease. He does come across difficulties, but he keeps trying. Finally, to everyone’s surprise, he is awarded as “Sallie Mae’s First Year Teacher of the Year”, which goes farther from his original dream.

People all have dreams, and we are without exception. However, our dream keeps changing. What we wanted in high school was different from what we wanted in primary school, and when we came to universities, our dreams changed again. But we may find a tendency that as we grow older, our dream may become more realistic. We set lower goals, because we find what great difficulty we have to deal with if we preserve in what we wanted before. Pressure from the outside and laziness inside us may drive us to change the course, making us farther and farther from our original destination.

Cohen did not do so. He failed, sobbed, got heart-broken, but he never wavered. This is just we lack. Once we are blocked, we change our way. An old saying goes, “The prizes of life are at the end of the each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal”. We may encounter failures at the thousandth step, but success may just be there for us. The key is to stand up one thousand first times when we fall over one thousand times. Sadly, many of us give up. Cohen said that “The world in children’s eyes is different from adults’. As children always say what I want to do, not what I can’t do.”So, in his mind, the thought of “I can’t” never existed, and his firm belief encouraged him to keep going. The situation Cohen suffered is tougher than what we met. So, why don’t we follow Cohen’s example and try to be more undeviating? Ignore the obstacles at our feet, and keep our eyes on our goals. Thank the obstacles we have met and learn from then just as Cohen has done. Then keep going unswervingly. Persist long enough, and we will finally achieve what we want.
