After watching the First Grader, Maruge’s old but persistent image often appears in my mind. I admire his courage and l am so impressed by his adherence and passion toward learning. For Maruge, learning was the happiest thing in his life. However, Maruge, a 84-year–old–man, had no chance to relive those moments from his childhood. Kenya’s government announced that all people could get free education, offering new hope to Maruge. He looked forward to being a member of all beneficial students. His dedication and passion touched teacher Jane but some school personnel and pupils’ parents. For such a veteran who returned to the classroom among so many children, the voice of protest is unified and loud. At the same time, Jane was punished because she supported Maruge. Looking all unfair treatment, Maruge decided that under no circumstance did he yield to pressure, he would throw down a gauntlet to the stiff government.

This film fully reveals that no changes would be made without a fight. If Maruge has not tried his best to oppose, he will not get opportunities to learn and read the letter from the president by himself. If there has no fight, the government will not change his policy, people will not witness the creation of a new era, the society will not develop with steady steps so quickly. So people must fight to change themselves. If people give up their struggle and change because of fear, they have to accept the status quo. In this film, we also understand that knowledge is infinite. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned. Maruge has set a good example for us. Even though he is 84 years old, he still insists on looking for chances to acquire knowledge. I have to admire him.

In the First Grader, an emotion without the distinction of gender, age and parties is the best and most moving. There is something we should learn from childhood. We should learn to protect and respect people around us. It is a difficult thing to change the society. When a person becomes the first one to fight back without consideration of personal gain, this is the most admirable thing.
